Thread: Grenades: A proposal.

It has always frustrated me how ineffective grenades are, so I've decided to compile some of my ideas on how to kick em' up a notch. Just imagine how cool commando would be if we could actually depend on grenades asreliable weapons!

First, here are the problems with grenades as I see them:

  • Terrible range mods on the grenades themselves - usually ideal is 10m.

  • Ideal range often falls withing the blast radius on some grenades, this leads to frustrating (and embarasing) self incapacitations (is that even a word? heh, oh well).

  • HAM costs of rediculous magnitudes - 100 plus on all 3 stats just to toss a proton grenade (that usually misses anyways, grr...)

  • Very low accuracy at master level.

Now here are some ways to remedy the situation:

  • Move the ideal rangeto 32m and have a max range of 48m.

I just KNOW that a highly trained commando would have the ability to throw accurately from farther than 10m. I don't 32m is too unreasonable either... 48m would be pushing it a bit, but the accuracy could be reduced at farther distances. Perhaps something along these lines:

  • Minimum 16m: +0

  • Ideal 32m: +20

  • Maximum 48m: -25

This would also alleviate the terrible event of self incapacitation by moving the ideal range out of the blast radius.

[As a side note, I think subjecting CM's poisons and diseases to theis same system of accuracy. It would improve the quality of the game. Either that, or let Commandos throw grenades from extreme tange without ever missing like CM's do, that would work for me! Heh, heh...]

Now with the serious fix mentioned, here are some more ideas. This is more of a wishlist for grenades I guess, but here goes: Give grenades status effect changes. Some possibilities:

  • Proton Grenades: Chance to knock down, chance to stun.

  • Thermal Detonators: Chance to blind.

  • Imperial Detonators (Dirty Imps!): Chance to dizzy.

  • Glop Grenades: Chance to delay for 8 seconds (maybe 10 seconds? this could follow the revised rules for Panic shot and Warcry as well)

  • C-22's (not sure on the name here, the frag grenade ones though): Chance to stun.

If grenades were like this, I don't think I would mind the huge HAM costs and slow speed, otherwise it would be nice to tone that down a bit.

Well, what do you think? I know I'm probably not the first person to suggest these things, butI just wanted to start a thread for grenades. Well, these are some of my ideas, lets here some more. By all means, I'd love suggestions or comments, just don't be too harsh (I hope I don't have any significant errors here).

You have good ideas, that is not the reason why you are not getting any attention. The reason is because we are just frustrated with the lack of attention from the DEVs with these ideas. Nice work though and dont be discouraged.

Yep, that would pretty much solve any issues with grenades. Maybe you could try PM'ing the suggestion to either JustG or TH and see if you can get any feedback.

Dev's don't listen.

Technically they do "listen". They just shrug and go back to working on their other projects, i.e. buy expansion pack and go into space.

They have zero intention of actually making this class make any sense or just reward for the required effort.

Take a look at the jedi complaints for the hardest class there is.

How, exactly, does one go about writing a PM (this is in-game email, right?)to one of the devs? Do I just send it to JustG or Thunderheart? Never tried this before...

I posted along these lines the other day, our ideas seem to be along similar lines.

In my mind there nothing more fun than using grenades to take out a mob, I think the mechanics of the game needed to be changed to make grenade use more viable.

Yep, pretty much. Just PM it to them like you would any normal player. You may or may not get a response depending on how clogged their in-boxes are and how much time they have available. Just make sure to be polite and considerate in yor messages, as that tends to generate a friendly atmosphere that is more conductive.
