Greetings.

I've already posted once in the commando forum, but would like to get some feed back on my idea, I think it would add an interesting aspect to large-scale PvP (faction battles ect.). I did a little research and found something about Orbital Bombardment. I see that it is based on faction rank, and while I think it is an awesome concept, I think it could be expanded upon, and give a very unique aspect to the commando profession.

For anyone who has read the X-Wing novels, I enjoy the Wraith Squadron books. I remember one part when they are placing beacons for fighter strikes from Rogue Squadron. I would find the ability for a commando to call in that kind of firepower to be a main reason to become a commando, because calling down a missile/turbolaser strike is the type of Massive Damage I imagine the commando should be doing. This ability would not be practical in normal day-to-day hunting, but for large scale hunts and faction battles, it would be quite effective.

I have many more thoughts on this, but it would take up a lot of everyone's time to read just one idea. So any questions I would like to answer if you would just post them here.

There's an idea. It'd be kinda cool if Imperial Commandos, for example, could place a beacon on structures for an SD to bombard.

For rebel commandos, maybe a fighter run could be called in. Of course some sort of delay would be needed between placement and the strike, and a method to counter/remove them would probably be necessary as well, but this could potentially be a cool, unique skill for us. Perhaps grant engineers the ability to have a chance to remove placed beacons after 'focussing' on them for a certain period of time (long enough to realistically disarm something anyways, maybe 30 seconds to a minute?)

This is a great idea for content and new ideas, however it would be very hard to balance the amount of damage done by these. The only way I can think of to balance the amount of damage over an area would be to set the ability on some sort of timer. That way it cannot be spammed. Either that or force the purchase of the radio, or whatever is used to call the airstrike, with FPs instead of credits. Other than that I think it is a great idea.

easily done...prolly a 5k faction one time use item

a 30 second timer or something, smugglers gotta slice it to disarm (or other commandos get a skill to disarm it?)

and could prolly be EASILY done with minimal graphics...for imps...ISD's (2) are ALWAYS a static above almost if not all the worlds....very easily can big laser blasts just come outa the sky and pelt the area with withering shots...

for rebels...same thing with BOMBs, like Y-wings doing bombing raids with fall-free thermal detonators, space mines, or percussion ordinance....maybe show a fighter..could be a bit harder tho with that (but hey..they already got the skins done..look at Nym's hunt with x-wing)

this would be a VERY COOL addition to the game, give a slightly alternative way to destroy bases (gotta put it on terms or something?)

and could be very easily balanced (rather than needing ALL those proffessions to destroy a base...plant a bomb with a master commando...make sure other commandos/smugglers dont disarm or heck..maybe anyone can disarm it...then get the hell outa the place)

i also can imagine this to be ALOT like the ION Cannon/NUKE Beacon from C&C Renegade..

You know, that's funny, that was exactly what I was thinking...I was just afraid to make the analgoy figuring most peole here probably hadn't played it.

Mythought was to make it a 1-shot kill on a single structure, with a 5 minute count down timer on a use, and only being able to carry around one or two at the most. Then make it so to be countered it would need to have someone go into 'slicing mode' (or something like that) where they basically focus on it for 30 seconds or so in attempt to disarm it. Then when the big guns come down, add a small AE that hits stuff around the targetted structure as well.

Who knows, maybe we can see if they'd be interested in adding something like this during the GCW revamp patches that are coming up?

Perhaps I need a longer, more detailed post, to get more feedback. Trying to get a Dev's eye isn't an easy thing.

Trust me, that probably won't do the job. I tried the same thing and had a massive 3 post article on a potential redesign for the proffesion and how it could easily fit into the GCW...

It got about 15 replies total.

Alot of the times when great ideas are posted, everyone ends up agreeing with the poster, so very little is commented on.

Thanks for the replies, but It seems there isn't enough interest to make this even a possible reality.

This is a cool idea. It sounds like this would only be for factioned commandos though. Would it only be able to be used against faction targets? Otherwise you might see a balance problem (AT-Sts used to be useable against non-faction targets and they had to change that right?)

Well, since I have yet to see no non-factioned defense structures, that's not really an issue.
