Thread: What would be a good def prof to add?

so ive finally mastered commando (had 4444, but respeced to master so i didnt have to grind 1 mil hvy weap exp) and just wondering what i should add with it for def mods....ive been told bh...but idk, ive also been told tk....both tanks....but what makes em tanks....and since commandos dont have their own specials anymore, what would be good for def and specials....witht he enw combat upgrade idk what goes well with what anymore (also have been out for the past 7 months)

commandos cannot be tanks. to be a tank you must have 2 important abilities:
1) you must be able to take lots of damage for long periods of time. To achieve that you must have2 vital requirements:
a) High defenses
b) high healing ability
The above is only doable by having the doc+cm heal efficiency branch for infusion and bacta jab/spray plus stims.
2) You must be able to hold aggro reliably. This is achievable by 2 means:
a) Inflict more damage than every individual in your group, thus keeping hate to yourself.
b) Have Taunt Ability.
Commando is incapable of #2. We do not deal any damage worth noticing over those of other proffessions and taunt from novice brawler is on a long timer and is not effective (works only 30% of the time).
The only commando I have ever seen that 'tanked' was a master commando/master combat medic. He kept hate by aoe healing (critters REALLY hate that) but his firepower was minimal, his defenses were minimal.. and his mind ran out real fast and then he died horribly.
So no, Commandos cannot be tanks.
For a commando you can only really wish for utility attacks you can turn into AOE.
My favourite combination is:
Master Commando
Doctor 4000 (good self healing+bacta infusion which is dang good)
Pistoleer 2130 (warning shot= -80 enemy defenses, stun shot= cut regen rates, intimidate shot and improved quickdraw)
Smuggler 4000 = last ditch and Panic Shot (increases weapon delay on others, insanely useful), Concussion Shot (root)
You dont have damage attacks. But instead you have an amazing arsenal of debuffs which you can apply into AOE mode in both pvp and pve. Your defenses are a bit low but you make up for them in the sheer amount of debuffs you apply.
To put in perspective, this commando template will :
1) decrease your damage output for 2 minutes by 25% via intimidate
2) decrease your DPS by increasing your weapon delay by 25% (panic shot)
(so far the enemy has been reduced to 50% damage dealing capacity in just 2 attacks)
3) increase own damage output by 25% (warning shot is -80 defenses)
4) stop enemy health regeneration (stun attack)
5) inflict fire dot on target (commando weapon)
6) keep himself at near full health all the time during combat thanks to doc heal and infuse.
7) root enemy
and do all this to every target in cone out to 40m in front of him.

Bounty Hunter gives you quite a bit of defense, especially with Duelist Stance. Its the closest thing to a ranged tank.

+160 defense doesnt do much. you need over +400 defense to make a difference. aka improved COB or jedi improved force aura.

thanks for the doc idea or CM idea tacwraith...and very indepth might i add...so ill try sum things out..but im definately going to add sum medic
