So in November 2003 I stopped playing SWG and today I returned. All I have to say is holy sheet! I have suddenly been reclassified as CL40 (all my elite professions dropped during holocron chasing), cannot equip any of my weapons but my VKs (boo SOE for making 2 FT certifications), cannot move because my skill points are over (I guess because of CL40 =| all points available?), and there is absolutely nobody in the cities that used to be crowded. So I come and start reading info on the forums because all the changes have me too confused...
Questions:
1. We lost all our specials!! How do you guys solo now and get appropriate exp? (I am referring in particular to the loss of our DOT) we still have our dot, and we cant solo anymore unless we have another profession combined.
2. Where is there a *current* character builder? I checked some links listed in forums, but they seem to be outdated. I dunno
3. I have several skill trees untrained but have capped exp. Is the exp system the same as it used to be when once you were capped (box 4) and untrained to nothing if you got 1 xp for that tree your cap would drop to the cap for box 1, losing 100,000's of exp? exp is the same except if u kill weak stuff u gain 1 exp
4. Does anyone *really* play a commando as their main anymore? I mean, we seem more gimped in PvE than ever *and* melee still own ranged toons in PvP.i play commando its semi-fun and melee is definatly not owning in pvp.
5. And where is everyone? bloodfin, bria, i like valcyn and flurry too

Thanks Tom. I want to clarifya couple questions though to get a little more info.
1. I would test this stuff myself, but I cannot equip my flamethrower, which became a plasma FT, and my house (with all my extra flamers and gear) is loooong since rotted. I understand the dot is still in existance, but since it is no longer a special it is not 100% chance to land. Apparently you have like 15% chance of the DoT landing on every hit you make?
2. Anyone? or is the one linked off SOE's link page the best there is?
3. I am specifically referring to once you have capped exp for a tree and untrained after capping. I don't know the current caps for exp (where you stop earning exp unless you train a new box), but when I left the game it was something like 450,000 exp. So as an example: If you reach Master commando and over time acquire 450k heavy weapons exp then you decide to drop all of the commando trees, do you keep your 450,000 heavy weapons exp? Note that in the past, you could keep the 450,000 exp for as long as you never used a heavy weapon again. If you killed *anything* ever after that with a heavy weapon, you would lose all but 25,000 of your heavy weapons exp. As you can guess, I have *several* exp types that are at 450,000 exp, and want to make sure I do not lose all that time and effort just because I wanted to run and test a flamer on a woort.
4. Looking for more than one response here...
5. Actually I was thinking more along the lines of the cities ppl hang out in? The starting cities used to be different from where they are now.
Oh.. and welcome back.

My experience leads me to believe it's somewhere between 15 and 20%, yes. Flame DOT damage is extremely weak currently, with most of my burns ticking for 380ish damage. It makes little, if any noticable impact, except in certain high end situations where that flame DOT can be used to counter the MOB's natural regen, and also pvp / duels where the DOT can help to counter both health regen, and stim use. Currently area damage is FUBAR, with the flamers striking all secondary targets for either0 or1 damage. Targets hit for 0 damage will still aggro you. Lovely huh? The flame DOT on these secondary targets *sometimes* works. Any target hit for a DOT will refuse to stay dead and countinue to rise from it's own ashes, continuing to attack. Be forwarned that using your FT against high end MOBs such as Krayt, is currently a double edged sword. That same DOT that can be used to counter regen, can get you killed, when the "dead" Krayt stands again, having stopped burning, and nearly immeadiately regens 5000 health.

Drop the skill line in a respec, lose the exp. Attack *anything* without the supporting skill, lose the exp. Train even one box in the previous skill, lose all excess exp above the cap. If you have extra exp, save it for the village.

It varies by server a bit, but the Dantooine Mining Outpost seems to be a favorite on many servers.
TYVM for the replies guys! You got all the answers I needed but triggered some more. I do have one follow on question to this statement:

What do you mean by "save it for the village"?
I would like to add2 more questions along the same line:
1. Since I have oodles of excess exp in nearly *every* profession except BH, Jedi, Combat Medic and Doc, I think I am going to finish out Commando for the badge and to see if the devs feel mercy on us in the near future. If you knew you could instantaniously completenearly 1 million exp (and enough combat xp for 2+ boxes of the appropriate tree) of any elite combat profession other than BH, CM,and Doc, what would it be? Note that I already have 2 trees of TKA + excess xp for that...
2. I don't think I would be effected, but does anyone know if gaining starfighting (or whatever its called) exp would for some reason cause me to lose my overcapped xp in my ground combat skills?
