This afternoon was sitting in a camp when I get a tell out of nowhere "Do you have field tactics 2?"Curious of course, I asked why. Turns out this person's PA was raiding one of the factional bases and it requires someone with ft2 to turn off the shield generator(or something to that effect)> The person even joked it was a cruel trick they had killed well over 80 rebels and now they needed a commando to actually take the base. This was one of the control this base your side is winning the galactic war places.

So I started thinking...we aren't heavy weapon troopers as far as they are concerned, we are combat engineers. It makes sense if you have studied military history.Often engineer units do have access to a flamethrower, demolitions equipment etc. Several American engineer units during WW2 were heavily involved in Anti-Tank operations. So I think by accident I may havestumbled onto their vison for us.Also makes sense with the fact Commando in beta required engineering. Now give me my mines,my satchel charges and my field emplacements(with crew served tripod mounted weapons) /grin

Anyways just what I thought of while sitting in camp

Oh my... you may be on to something, although I truly hope that you are wrong because I'd really rather be a titan of combat. But, I tip my hat to your pondering, keep it up!

that my friends, is called serendipity. good show drksensei. But i do also hope that we will be turned into combat kings, because, while this sort of combat engineer thing would be cool, it shouldn't require master marksman.

imagine a later profession taking up that role and it requires say, the engineering tree in artisan as well as ranged weapon support from marksman (a la combat med). that could be quite interesting.

Hey Nar I got that exact same tell while minding my business on naboo. I hadn't invested in ft yet (doing tka combat tree and carbineer tree first) but I had the combat xp for it told the guy I could but there better be a **edit** good reason why. He left me at that.

Was wondering why he was interested in it.

Most commandos do not wield huge anti tank weapons that draw a lot of attention. They are issued on a special case basis and most have a basic familiarity with them at best.Often a commandos job is recon, establishing a foothold for an airdrop(or landing),neutralizing a specific target(usually command and control structures) and training locals in basic combat skills.

The engineering requirement..if soley for us to make our weapons, why would our weapons be mostly Master level?I just can't see that being the case. At first I thought maybe it was so we could repair our weapons. But with charges once again I am not so sure. However for things like basic electronics, knocking out shield generators and installations etc. It does make sense to me.

Combat Engineers on the other hand are often trained in multiple forms of mass destruction. Anything from the Mark 19 Grenade Launcher,to the .50 cal, including in some cases the heavy anti tank systems. One of the reasons is they are often deployed in forward areas under fire(at least some units). They also handle demo(and I have to this day not ever met one well adjusted demo guy heh) and electronics.Of course very very very rarely does any one person in the unit have all these skills, but hey it is a game.

It was the shield generator thing that really got my brain working. Consider Endor in RotJ..who did they send with Han Solo to take out the shield generator? That's right commandos. What did they use...demolitions. I didn't see one heavy weapon with them. Doesn't that also make sensewhen you think ofthe comment from the developers that heavy weapons are " Remember these are your special case weapons; they are not intended to be your primary in all circumstances"

Don't get me wrong I joined up as a commando because I thought we were more like shock troops.Immense damage possibly heavy armors dispensing death on the battlefield. These are just things in my opinion that point to what they may have been thinking since we have been curious.I have to say though Combat Engineer could be a lot of fun.I'd really love to hear the Devs take on this. After all we have been looking for our vison, let's just hope it is one we want.

Wow I need to stop posting before coffee I get wordy /grin

the engineering i believe was a requirement since we originally were suppoused to make our own weapons

and today's commandos use anything in their arsenal, doesnt have to just be a demo man
