Thread: what to mix with commando?

i've seen some ideas thrown around for what to mix with commando skills, especially something to compensate for the lack of defenses we get. some talk about smuggler x/0/x/0, or go with pistoleer for other skills to use for the LP, though for me that would proably only be temporary after i could use the other weapons better. i can also maybe go creature handler, though that would probably take away from my potential xp gainage somewhat, and i have a rock beetle anyways already. i thought about doing smuggler before i decided on commando, and i'd like to make spices for my own usage, but the spice crafting to get to tier 4 is quite tedios and getting a littleexpensive that i may give it up. i still have 15k rifle xp and 8k combat xp to get just for novice, so i still have a little while. for those asking, no i'm not really a bandwagoner, i was going towards either bh or commando since i started playing 2 months ago, and i don't get much time to be on between college schoolwork and a job. i could maybe still go bh, but i'd have to regain survival and trapping skills in which i dropped already.

so maybe keep some of my smuggler skills (i have 2/2/0/2), or maybe go with tka/something elsefor defenses? what i'm wanting is pretty much the most solid build i can get with commando being a priority.

I'd say go with pistoleer, scout, and medic skills.

Your pistoleer will give you defenses and launcher pistol mods -in addition to the defense, sometimes even when you've mastered commando, the launcher pistol will be the best weapon you can use. It also opens up the DX2 pistol to you, which can be situationally nice when you don't need HW xp anymore.

Another decent option would be carbineer, but more for offensive and crowd control fire.Imagine using your HPBC on a group of enemies who were just hit with AOE knockdown, thencleaning up any survivors with full-auto-area attacks Before the PD/KD timernerf, carbineers were amazing at taking on groups of targets, but now with our damage, we should be able to make it so that the first KD is the only KD you need.

Scout is just plain useful. All-around utility. The exploration and trapping trees are particularly useful for us, but the hunting tree is also a very nice plus because of the creature /examine ability.

Medic is obviously useful. I think every combat character should have 2-0-0-0 minimum in medic, for first aid. If there's a good supply of wound packs on the market in your server, you might want to go for 2-0-2-0 or better, otherwise you might want 2-0-0-2 to craft woundpacks for yourself.

CH to 1-1-0-0 will let you use a Greater Sludge Panther, just like everyone else - these things are really good tanks, however, and tend toward intelligence (they don't get caught up on stuff and are really quick to respond to your commands, as opposed to many other creatures).

Nov Medic is a helpful skill, albiet not necessary - if you have CH, you shouldn't be taking much damage, and the HAM costs on Commando Specials are really leniant.

Smuggler Slicing is probably a good skill to have - slicing expendable weaponry (not grenades, that's a waste of your time) can make an already good HPBC or ASL into a true weapon of death. Underworld 1 is a great skill for any PvP'er, as you'll pull a 10% discount of factional perks. The spices line could also serve you well if you use spices a lot in duels and such...

Teras Kasi Meditation is a GREAT tree, especially since you've already got the Unarmed 4 you need for TKA. Get it up a couple levels and you'll be able to survive poisons/diseases/bleeds much better. Get it to level 4, however, and you can heal off your own wounds off without making/buying woundpacks, an EXCELLENT skill to have.

If you're interested in sheer style points, get Dancer/Musician Techniques up until you can use whichever flourish it is that creates the lightning effect. Make a really fast macro to /startdance, do that flourish, then /stopdance and fire off a Heavy Lightning Beam ^_^

if youre joining a pa or battlegroup, drop medic and scout. get master commando, defensive branch of pistoleer, def branch of tka, and def branch of fencer. your kd, blind, and dizzy defenses will be great - but i advise not giving up medic until you have achieved the hardest xp (tka and fencer).

Well i like the idea of pistoleer skills with the Launcher Pistol but i have chosen Master Creature Handler instead. I just love the profession . In the wilderness i can solo almost anything but for those people who complain about people with 3 Greater Sludges or a huge pet tank, the xp is beyond hard to get. Try getting Master CH and Grenadeer while only playing 25 min -1 hour a day! . But yes CH is good but i wouldnt go for 1/1/0/0 in it. its a waste. Greater Sludges arent as good as everyone thinks they are alone. 2 Greater Sludges -- decent, 3, good for PvP and good for hunting but 1 is uselss. My opinion because i have used them before.

Im very fond of commando/ch. I have Ch 1-1-0-2 and when i have 1-1-0-3 i will have 2 pets out. Very good for tanking while I use my FT.

how about this...

ch 4,4,0,3
pistoleer 0,0,4,4
commando 0,0,4,0

Two pets out...bad ass flame dot...and a fast ass launcher pistol

I have to have surveying skills so my tree is a lot different then this...but if you wanted to be bad ass PVE style that is the way to go...

keep six pets when the two you are using get hurt switch out too the next two...rotate the pets as needed...they heal in your datapad

From what I have read and based on the other commando's I have spoken to I have a very unpopular templte, but Im quiet excited about finishing it.

I plan to go Master commando and sink the rest of my points into 2 full branches of squad leader. I play often with a few people and really thing the group based skills will help out. I also like the idea of being an officer, of sorts.

Thank you,

I was working on slicing, but thats both time consuming and expensive (from buying clamps). I may or may not stick with it. Ive resently thought about CH, because I still have all of my Explore and Hunting XP from when I was originally gonna go BH.
