Thread: History repeating itself...

I have read the commando forums since launch and I can't help but feel that this period in time is eerily similar to the begining of the game when flamethrowers had about 200 max damage. Every other post back then was "fix commando or I'm leaving", very similar to the ones of today.Commandos begged for the devs to give them some responseand heed their humble words, very similar to the ones today. We listed problem after problem and plausible solutions, much like we do today.Commandos were extremely gimped and underpowered much like the ones today....

I can't help but remember thatabout the time when every commando had given up hope, whenevery commando had questioned their proffesion, and when everything was thoughttohave been lost....bam, we were broadsided by a huge upgrade. One that (at the time) brought glory to the commando class, and struck fear in its enemies. Maybe I'm delirious, but I'm hoping that the stars and planets align and that history somehow repeats itself.

That's exactly what is happening...I myself have made those references as well in some of my posts...But the problem is the Dev's are making all the same mistakes they made before...the bad part of history is repeating itself...this new Bonus for Melee attacks is a perfect example...We fought for many many months to get that 2.5x Melee Damage bonus removed...finally the Dev's admitted it was poorly concieved and it was lifted...now they look to re-add something similar...

Yes we are eventually going to see some love...I am confident of that...but how long? and what type of love? It would be easier to wait if we knew what we were waiting for instead of just some generic "combat balance" that up to so far has done us more damage then good...As TH put it so eloquently "Commandos are not a broken profession"...so this doesn't give me much confidence that we are even on the fix list...

Everything we told the Dev's would come back to bite them in the butt has come back to bite them in the butt...we told them before Patch 6, that their proposed changes would receive more NERF whines then before...and we were right...but agian, they failed to listen...

Yeah but how many people actually knewthe extentof how much the flamethrower damage would be improved? I'd say at this point the ambiguity of the "combat balance" is our only hope.We can contemplate new theories of how much we are going to get screwed to the end of time, but until changes actually take effect they are still only theories. We've seen pieces but not the whole plan. I agree that TH's comments don't warrent any confidence and who knows when the whole "combat balance" is finished, but still....people gave up on the devs beforeonly to eat their words once the flamethrower was improved.

LOL. I know that. But the specials for the FT were originally coded for something alot less powerfull. And if you think about it, well it kinda makes sense. Lets face it that dot had some omph behind it but that was all you had with the original ones. The FT's now can be pushed to beyond 1k of damage whereas before you were strugging to get past 300 or so. Thats a big jump in power.

If the only thing that should matter in the game is skill points, then everyone would all end up using the exact same class! Commandoes have more than just flamethrowers - they have PBCs and rocket launchers! The PBC is one of the most effective weapons in the game! And yes, I used to be a commando, so I know what I'm talking about. If you want to bug the devs about something, bug them about how useless grenades are!

You used to be a commando....that doesnt fly dude. si the PBC effective against a moving target? Is it effective at close range? Is it effective at all against anything other than turrets? Not really..

The HPBC is useless on everything but stationary factional NPC's.

That's BS, people wouldn't just take the same class, especially since no class in the game takes 250 skillpoints. What you invest your skillpoints in should be the single most important factor in a character's abilities. Someone who spends 250 points on combat skills shoul be extremely formidable, no matter what combat skills they investe in (and there are far more than 250 points worth of combat skills alone, not to mention other professions that can support combat skills among other things.)

Ahh. I know of someone who still uses one of those old flame throwers. Damage similar to some rifles. Plus a burn dot. Did you ever think that in doubling (well roughly) the damage in the flame thrower that could have been the cause of all this greif? I mean the game was coded for thos old flame throwers that hit for a max of 400-500 dmg, not the ones that hit for 800-1000. Hence the burn nerf, and hence the nerf I forsee in the not to distant future cause of the dot nerf. Adding initial damage was fine for normal weapons. But your dealing with something that hits 3-4 times harder than a rifle.
