Thread: Grenades, and new appliance.

In uniqueness, theweapons gained in the explosives linesaren't all that unique....when it comes to appliance. It is a AOE weapon with a limit. I'de like to suggest something new for grenades, something wich especially will shine out it's AOE appliances...and with a bit more control then before.

Grenade Targetting

A new targetting feature for grenades, wich enables you to target a specific area of where you'll throw a grenade. Whats special about this, is that you'll be able to hit targets, even if they have broken Line of sight with you directly. A way to flush them out.

Target zone

You will get a freeview camera...wich can travel 20 meters in any direction from your character...and in this mode, you're able to select with the left mouse button, the targetting area. This targetting area can be set without you need to be in direct line of sight, and when you choose, you throw the grenade in that landing area...at wich it will explode, and be able to hit someone, even he was hiding behind a wall (if you selected the right area).

The inner green circle represents the landing area, the outer green circle displays the area of effect(or in case of a bad drop, the overshooting zone, but that will be explained later)

Setting Charges

When you enter the middle green circle, you get the options to set a charge (like the Proton Grenade, and Imperial Detonator), into the location of the inner circle. When you do, you're able to set them off with a timer, or a remote detonator for the imperial detonator...wich has a limited range of 40 meters. Charges set in each others vecinity will explode simultaneously.

Though if an enemy goes too close to it, they can deactivate them with a little bit of effort.

Throwing Arc

The blue throwing arc display, makes an estimation of how your character will throw a grenade, and it shows (even if someone isbehind a wall, you're able to throw over it) a possible route of throwing. Though the harder the throw, the bigger chance of you overshooting the target area, and land in somewhere inside the outer circle.

These are my ideas of bringing in a new level of usage to explosives.

What are your thoughts?

Would be cool, but sounds a bit too time consuming in a game where a few lightsaber hits will incapacitate you. Imagine trying to use that in a theed war...*shudders* The lag would kill you before you could move the camera...

I know folks are tired of the CU ripping off WoW, but I really think they had the simplest and most elegant throwing system to date... which is more or less what you posted (minus the arc bit).

You simply right click the stack then click where you want to throw it (circle displays blast radius on the ground where you're going to launch it).

I love the idea but it seems over complicated. In my humble opinion, I think grenades can become something quite usfull, practical, and lethal if the following is done:

1) Remove Line of Sigh restrictions on grenades. This way, you can toss a grenade to your opponent, who thinks they are being clever by taking cover, only to be nailed by a nade! Line of sigh should apply indoors of course though.

2) Increase grenade damage and make cryobans root (pesonal pet peve! in kotor they froze people! they should be a mez but thats pushing it)

3) Far fetched idea but why not....maybe make grenade belts be able to hold.. oh i dont know.. grenades? Holds 10 stacks of grenades but only holds grenades. Not really needed but I think it would be bad-ass

Hmm I didn't know WoW had a simular kind of system. In any case, the throwing arc is just something that shows your physical limitation of throwing something, because if you remove line of sight, what would stop you from throwing over a coronet building?

I like the idea, but with these devs?

When they can't even figure out how to make us the 5 in damage as planned, and aint able to fix our AOE damage, and are of the type that seem to believe that limiting everything else than jedi is good progress of the game.

Well, this would be cool for a commando, give us some use and perhaps some accuracy for our nades.

But our nades still are of a quality, that only baby nunas fear

To be honest, I don't know why the devs increase the innate damage grenades do...or give them an armor break propperty. They have a cooldowntimer anyways to throw them, especially whenyou want to throw the same type of grenade.

I'm bumping this, considering profession specific revamps are coming closer each day.

I'm a sucker for grenades, the only real reason I have commando is because of those boomtastic beauties. Make them booms, blow stuff up!

this is IMO the best diea for revamping nades. and i have a idea to add to them.

i know a few people want most of our weapions back to consumable (im not one of them i think it was stupid for the devs to give commando two consumable weapions which that tree can be ues for more weapions like they are now to go along with our flamer) but the main reson was becuase of the damage. what i think what the devs should do is that make the nades as strong as them (but make them do enoth damage as a attack with like leg, body, head shot.

the line of sight thing i think isa big issue, but having not participated in the CU yet, i was not really aware of it. i'm no infantryman, but i'm sure that the main purpose of frag grenades is to get to the enemy when you can't shoot straight at him with a rifle.
