I use to be a commando... dropped it for the holo grind, and now I've decided to master the profession again. I have flamethrower specialization 2, and was wondering if I should use the flame thrower to get xp, or use the launcher pistol. I read that using the launcher pistol until you get flame 3 is the way to go, but I just saw a post saying to use the flamer with point blank area 1.
Thanks

I used my flamer and citris snow to master commando (plus 40 to hit whatever that means), except the nade line, which I mastered using - you guessed it - nades. I hardly touched a launcher pistol as I only had pistols 4 in marksman.

If you have Pistoleer keep using the launcher pistol. If not, hunt gurrecks-edor and baz niches-dath and use your flamethrower, but don't get into groups till your flame4.

If you have some Pistoleer or BH Pistols, use your LP until you get Flame III.
You could still continue with using the Flamethrower, it's just that you'll need some patience. You'll be slow and somewhat inaccurate still at Flame II. This is the way I did it when I started SWG. I was a bit too stubborn and hardheaded. Couldn't put the Flamethrower down after staring at it for so long in the bazaars as a Novice Marksman.
Whichever route you take, concentrate your Heavy Weapons XPs to get Flame IV and dump your Combat XPs into your Field Tactics line. Once you have Flame IV, getting Heavy Weapons XPs is very fast.
We'll be waiting for your celebration thread of getting Master Commando over here! Always happy to see new members in the Legion of Pain!

Watch out for someone trying to sell stuff with Hvy.Weapons mods.
Those don't work at the moment, and there's no guarantee that they'll work post-combat rebalance.

I used the flamethrower all the way through. A year ago from today I was mastering Commando there is no grind for me. It was hard especially hunting pickets but it was
do-able. And for Combat XP. I never used a grenade for such. By the time you get all your other skills you'll have earned all the combat XP you need. It's always been like that for me.

I don't really remember, but I'm pretty sure I used the flamer all the way through the first time I mastered also. However, I do remember all the hate tells I'd get from stealing loot rights at Fort Tusken.

The first and second time I went commando I used the flamethrower the entire time. Just recently all I used was a launcher that had the spider enhancements deals. The last time I had the smuggler/bh pistol lines to help. I tore through mokks/jantas on dant making alot of cash
.
