Thread: Kneeling Vs Prone with FT/HAR

Ok i haven't done any tests yet so I wanted to ask you guys about this. I have noticed that with both our "mainline guns"(LP? who uses that? ) That if you go prone the to-hit modifier gets worse rather than better but (and this is the strange part) your shot animation becomes rapid fire (and your slow machine group mates curse your name ).

Has anyone seen if there is an actual difference in the dps?

It almost seems the damage numbers are slightly faster. If this is true this could be some sane reason for the difference in kneeling attack vs prone attacks with our heavy weapons compared to every other ranged weapon in the game. Personally i think it would be very cool if that were the case although the penalty is a bit severe.

This is based on my observations and experience.

You have the best to-hit bonuses Kneeling than when prone. It seems much worse when prone actually.

You fire considerably faster when prone than when standing and only slightly faster than kneeling. I generally only go prone when destroying these massive ham lairs we have now.

As for DPS differences I couldn't tell you. I never concern myself with those stats.

Hope this helps

my experience is i do MUCH more damage when I go prone. i shoot faster, making the misses more insignificant. my flamer is 412-804 3.8 speed, and i love using it prone. Especially in PvP, opponents usually get scared at getting hit for 250dmg every 2 secs or so so they either run away and leave me be or run right at me, in which case i just switch to kneel and flame their eyebrows off.

i think you should do better kneeling.. flame thrower isnt perfect like a bullet.. its a ball of fire.. when your lieing prone you might flame the ground

Kneeling does seem to give better accuracy bonuses than prone does. There is, as far as I can tell,no speed difference between the positions - when you're prone, yes, it will ANIMATE you taking a burst of 4 or 5 shots, but that all only counts as a single shot in terms of actual effect.

I used prone just now on a couple of lairs. You do shoot faster (and always hit against lairs, so accuracy is no biggie) but, alas, my 64 Mb vid card made typing while auto-cannoning a bit of a pain.

Only the animation is sped up, there is no DPS differance between standing and prone.

There might be a slight increase in speed whilst prone but I don't see it. You do fire 3 shots while prone but it only counts as one attack round, so it may look faster but those 3 shots are doing the same damage as 1 shot kneeling. Kneeling makes the most sense to have the best Accuracy, lying on the floor whilst using a Heavy Weapon would result in you being thrown about.

When I go prone within 64m of a target and fire, I have a tendancy to warp to 65m away. its very strange, so i always use kneeling.

The reason we have such poor accuracy when prone is best explained I think by looking at melee. Currently our weapons counts as melee weapons when calculateing damage but this also affects our Accuracy I belive, if you're a melee and go prone your accuracy will automaticaly hit -50, that would explain why our accuracy when prone is bad. Though I could be wrong but that's how I think it currently works.

Yeah I think this might be the case for accuracy.

As for diffrences in speed, the chain explosions and fireballs would make it hard to tell the diffrence between 1 shot and the next. Because the shots run together since the prone animation takes 2 or 3 seconds longer then the standing one, it could appear to fire faster. But I know how to give you guys an accurate count in seconds on speeds (I think anyway).

Alright heres what I got (useing timestamped messages)

Prone: S1 instant, S2 5sec, S3 3sec, S4 3sec, S5 2sec -stand- S6 4sec S7 3sec, S8 3sec, S9 2sec <this last one was a flamecone as 2 mottled wrixes were on me and I wanted to get rid of the pests

This was just 1 test since I gotta go to work soon. Timestamp is in the options, under chat. The seconds shows the amount of time that passed between shots. S# is shot number. I didn't notice any diffrence in attack speed but I did notice a real diffrence in the lag, especially when the mobs got ontop of me. If we wanted to be funny we could say the lag comes from the confusion of haveing a massive stream of fireballs hit your body

My flamethrower is a spd5.0 unsliced and I'm a master commando with +45% speed mod which would bring my speed to about2.75 so that means that every 4th shot about is a 2 second shot (theres a delay between your first shot and every shot after, aswell as a delay between standing and proneing)

I noticed the rapid fire while prone.

Fact though is I watch combat chat channel and there was no difference in fire or hit rate although it appeared in animation i was packed some uber Machine Gun Flamer!
