Thread: New Commando...anything I should know?
If you're inclined in using the Launcher Pistol...get some Pistoleer Skills..favorably, Pistol Tech..as you get some nice pistol specials w/ special defenses (but suffer accuracy and spd)
Then get Flame 1 and go up the Flame tree with the flamer...from there the world is yours as currently the Flame tree is the only real effective tree for our proffession...if you want to get our mitigation and hvy weapons...then go Field tactics and hvy weapons....but gernades and the disposables are a waste....same with the HAR...
Essentially, only our RL, LP, and FT (Rocket Launcher, Launcher Pistol, Flamethrower) are our real and effective weapons...tho save for LP, they're still not as effective as other elite weapons in the long run....especially with accuracy, speed, and damage per second
From there...we recomend either taking up TKA, or just TKA defenses (0/3/0/4) or more Pistoleer defenses (the melee/dodge...counters are REALLY important to us...i prefer the TKA defenses since a non-master TKA will grant you around +90 ranged/melee defense and +91 defense acuity....a great help for us as we have no counters and very little ranged/melee defese [master finally got +25...accounts for half of our defenses in 1 skill box...and counters to me are more important than the general defenses...also tka gives you added special defenses]
My template is this:
Master Commando - TKA 0/3/0/4 - Pistol Techniques IV - Music IV (optional
hehe)
Good luck with the proffession...and muse around the boards for other ideas
At this point, there is only 1 thing you need to know...go up the FlameThrower tree...it's the only tree that's worthwhile. To begin, it's the only weapon that works (mostly). HAR are useless since it's a clone of the FT. Grenades are useless. period. I have yet to use the Light LIghtning Cannon, but it may be promising. Rocket Launchers are too expensive since you'll miss like 80% of the time.
A lot of people say to use a LP to gain heavy weapons XP and not to use the flamethrower until your're almost complete with the tree. I find that is not the case. This is because of the HUGE number of misses that you will be making for the first couple of skill boxes. While I agree that you miss a lot, I do not agree that you shouldn't use the flamethrower to grind the XP. I discovered that by creating a macro that says:
/aim; /pause 7; /macro xxx where xxx is the name of your new macro
This macro minimizes the number of times you miss. I still miss about 30% of the time, but that percentage is a lot higher when you just use the normal attack without /aim.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.
