I've been considering taking Commando but not sure how well it will fit into my template. The fact changing weapons is delayed so much make me think this idea Im working on may be too gimped to work so I figured I would ask.
Im looking to mainly be a pistol using BH. The idea I had was to go BH 4040, Pistoleer 0044, Smuggler 0040 and Commando 0040.
Ok, this gives me all the best pistol specials as well as each of the pistols to use with them. I still fire extremely quickly and accurately despite not going MPistoleer, because of the BH mods.
Would Flame 4 fit into this template at all or are skill points better off spent elsewhere? Is the damage from Flame 4 good or is flamethrower only worth using with Flame Cone 2? Will I rarely get chance to use the flamethrower because of this annoying weapon delay?
Sorry for all the questions, but Commando is one profession I've never got round to working with so I'm clueless with the specials.

You'd be better off with Master Pistoleer. Flamethrowers SUCK in PvP. They're slow and inacurate (even at Master). You also have to get into melee range to use specials. They're decent in PvE, but a Master Swordsman can easily outdamage us. Flamethrowers are also suseptible to lightsaber block, and since we fire at about 1/10 the speed other professions do, we'll hit Jedi about 1/10th as much. As it is, Commando grenades can get through LS block. Of course, they miss even more than Flamethrowers, and you'll have a good chance of incapping yourself. Grenades are also horribly slow.

Thank for the response. What about PvE? Pretty much the same scenario?

The FT is great in PvE (my definition of PvE: Player Versus Environment, aka mobs. Some consider PvE to mean Player vs Everything). You dont need FlameCone2 to do well either, FlameSingle2 is available at FT4.
At novice commando you get the launcher pistol cert, which despite giving heavy weapons xp the LP is considered a pistol, and can be used with pistol specials. LP is in my opinion one of the best pistols in the game.

Hmm ok. The plan is to use the variety of pistols for all things PvP and FT as an added damage source in PvE. I was thinking along the lines of Low Blow -> Panic Shot (last time I played, this delayed your mob from doing anything, hopefully this isnt changed) -> running up close and applying a nice flame DOT before switching back to pistol and making a hasty retreat spamming Last Ditch.
The alternative of Master Pistoleer doesnt really rpovide me with a great deal extra. Some extra speed and accuracy at the cost of the launcher pistol. Is the extra accuracy/speed really going to affect me that much in PvP? I'm not sure how I'd be in a bad way given the mods from BH would put me higher than a standalone Pistoleer in terms of speed/accuracy anyway.
Thanks for the responses so far, I'm looking to make my mind up before I log on tomorrow as I've got the Combat Xp stored up for Commando already

My buddy is using the template of
master pistoleer/BH pistols and smuggler pistols and he is pwning and getting more xp off a mob then I do when I hose it with flamesingle2
he just low blows/panic shot/and then spams last ditch
when he is firing last ditch as 1 second each he tends to do well for himself

a guildie of mine has about the same template, he likes to open up with flame single 2 then switch to a geo pistol, he says it works nicely for his playing style at least
