Thread: Fire DoT suggestion

Ok, before anybody flames me (feels strange saying that in the commando forum) about nerfings, this isnt a request to kill the flame dot. Rather, i'm asking if it would be possible to add a visual particle effect to players who have the fire DoT stuck on them. I want to actually see people run around on fire when they get blasted with a flame thrower. Would be nice if the fire dot made them run around out of control, in a panic mode, but that would be a bit unbalancing

Having a visual effect to being on fire isnt a big task, even for SOE

Another suggestion i have (and im posting this bit in the pikeman forums as well to see what they think) is to Somewhat change the Fire DoT weapons (excluding flamethrower, im talking about the pikes and such). I really dont see how an axe or knife or lance is supposed to set someone on fire.

My suggestion for that is a new command ability given to all players with novice brawler, an "activate weapon" ability. First off, for "vibro" weapons (vibroblades, vibroswords, vibro axes, vibro lances, etc.) the weapon has a humming noise and maybe a glow around the blade when 'activated', and being activated gives the weapon +1 Armor peircing. Now, before the arguments, I'm suggesting that there be limited uses, just like DoT weapons currently have. Say the average Vibro weapon (crafted) would have 100-1000 uses depending on experimentation. This would show the vibro motor as becoming broken and worn out after repeated use.

This would allow players to enhance their damage, but only when they wish to deplete the "uses" on their weapon. For some things like the LVA (which normally has AP2) it would give players an AP3 weapon for anywhere from 100-1000 attacks, like a powerup built into the weapon.

For weapons with Fire DoTs, i suggest some new 'flame' weapon similar to the vibro weapons, craftable as well. These, when 'activated' would have a small device in the hilt that emits a stream of fire along the blade's length (particle effect here). The Fire DoT from the crafted fire weapons would have between 100-500 uses, and be quite a bit weaker than the super dots out there now. the DoT strength would have to be experimented on a "fire unit" that is input into these weapons as a component. The Fire dot would probably be like a powerful bleed (ticking for perhaps 20-100 damage based on experimentation), and the dot would only last for maybe 5 ticks. Also, dont let people stack the fire dot, once someone is on fire they're on fire, end of story. You cant make them burn more.

This would add some neat visual effects to weapons, and some new stuff for weaponsmiths to make and sell, while not being overly powerful. The low uses would mean that you would only "activate" the weapon when you need to. While not activated, the weapon functions as any other standard weapon. Fire swords, axes, lances, knucklers, etc. could be used. Another balance could be that the dot only effects health from these weapons, so the powerful mind fire ones would still be rare and only looted.

I think this is a bad idea - any DoT resulting in heavy wounds like fire and disease should be bound to a profession. So the commando and the CM should be the only ones that can apply it - at a MODEST rate.

Fire DoT on melee weapons as it is now should stop (only melee weapon that SHOULD have a fire DoT anyway is the lightsaber).

Only commando's and BH sshould be able to set people on fire, in my humble, ok not so humble, opinion.

The fire DoT on a melee weapon seems rather poorly thought out. What kind of futuristic melee weapon can set you on fire? You could make it burn someone, but they certrainly wouldn't catch fire. Also, lightsabers tend to cauterize any wounds they make, so they wouldn't start fires either.
