Thread: Unless things change for pvp and commandos this week....cya SWG
After talking to some friends about SWG it seems like SWG is a lame duck in the water, especially when it comes down to the commando profession.
Unless things change for pvp and commandos this week...cya SWG.
I log on with my commando and cant think of one thing to do. He has already mastered some of the pistoleer lines, and TKA lines as well as exploration in scout, and a few in medic, yet he is stuck at flame 2 in commando, which is suppose to be my main profession. I never useany commando lines and really see no hope for the profession from what the devs responses or should I say lack of responses. As far as pvp goes SWG pvp is the most horrible pvp Ihave ever seen. It seems like they have just thrown the pvp system in swg together at the last minute, much the same as the commando profession.
I have no interest working up pistoleer ( a profession I never wanted in the first place), and no interest, for that matter, any other profession after I switched from BH to commando already.
To me an mmorpg is about5 things: PvP, PvM, Crafting, Social Interaction, and Graphics and Sound. PvP in SWG is just lame. The PvM is almost as bad as the pvp, not quite but almost. Whle the PvP and PvM is totally pointless in SWG, the crafting, social interation, and the graphics and sound is the only points where SWG shines at. What this boils down to is that SWG is a great carebear game. If your really into Sims Online you will love SWG, however if you play mmorpg to invest time working up a character in order to compete with others, SWG is NOT the game for you. I have more fun logging on to my friends account who gave up on SWG already and working up the crafter I made then playing my commando. I log on my commando and think to myself, "Why should I bother working up a commando cause the profession si complety gimp, then again, why work up any adventure/fighting character unless you want to experience the great pvp or pvm in a game?" Well SWG doesnt even come close to the great PvM quests of EQ, and even comparing the pvp aspect of SWG to that of UO, Daoc, or SB is a complete joke.
Which leaves only crafting and social interaction. SWG is an awsome interaction chat program, especially in cantinas. While the crafting is top of the line, if the resources would spawn the way they should and you dont loose half your stuff due to bugs.
So as I said this is the last week im gonna put any kind of faith into SWG getting any better. If they can fix the missions in a day ro two then they can make simple adjustments to make launcher pistols give hvy wep xp instead of pistol xp. This whole thing that they just need time is just a cop out. I really had hoped SWG was gonna be the best mmorpg ever, however atm it seems they are struggling not to become the worst mmorpg.
Well.. Commando seems to be a dead end profession right now, but things will get better just as long as you hold on a little while, but if you really want to compare it to other games go for it.. but always keep this in mind..
Did you play EQ when it first came out? lol.. i can say it stunk somethinig horrible... it took years for it to develop the complexity of the quests and such, which iis saying that SWG cant do that?
DAoC.. bah.. now that RvR thing was a good idea, gone wrong..I played that game from the start tiill SWG came out.. got my 50 infil up there.. got alot of stuff goinig.. and crap.. the game just boiled down to 1 thing.. zerg zerg zerg.. Who needs tatics when we can just rush their 50 people with our 50 people.. bah that was the most pathetic thing ever.. and going solo wasnt a barrel of fun either you were just owned by (enter random name here that has 2 buff bots, a Pocket healer, fully SCed/alchemized gear because he likes to beg from his guild).. If thats fun.. than your idea of fun seems rather messed up to me.. lol
Basically what im getting at is.. wait a little while All games suck hard at the start, its all about being patient and if you can wait till things get better or if you just get fustrated and give up and assume all games suck because they cant match up to the game thats been out for 5 years.. lol
So hang in there.. ![]()
" can say it stunk somethinig horrible... it took years for it to develop the complexity of the quests and such,"
Not exactly true. True, EQ had a lot of bugs, and needed some major work.
But the quests and "CONTENT" was all pretty much there right from release.
Not all quests mind you, but a good portion of them.
And those quests are still in the game to this day. Still working. Still rock solid content.
The expansions have obviously added onto the quests, and the content, and it's sort of spiralled out of control a bit where EQ is concerned ... BUT ... Star Wars doesn't come anywhere near EQ in terms of content available at release.
Snoggy,
You are the first person I have seen that posted a response comparing EQ to SWG in regards to content that got it right (besides myself hehe)
I completely agree....at release 4 years ago, content wise, EQ absolutely blew this game out of the water. I can't figure out how SOE gave the ok and forced this game to be released in it's current state knowing that EQ completely smoked this game at release. And that was 4 years ago...you would have thought they would have learned a few things by then about releasing these games...hell, even EQ's subsequent expansions had nowhere near the bug's/problems that this game has.
I just don't understand it really. It is good to know that there is a former EQ player out there (and I am not a big fan of EQ nor have been for a couple of years hehe) that knows what the truth is when comparing these two games in terms of quality and playability.
I played EQ for a little over 3 years, DAoC for about 2 and AO for almost a year just switching back and forth between the 3.
Out of all I would have to say DAoC had the best quality as far as PVP, PVE content and a smoothe release. I enjoyed all 3 tho.. Just 3 years of EQ and every time i see it mentioned im like OMG n/m.. Sorry just got old =/
AO had alot of bugs especially at release.. Even after a year or so some of the classes were still bugged (like trader) and some completely over powered (like MA). My MA was 15 lvls lower than my soldier w/ a novaflow that was about 23QL over his lvl.. and the MA would have killed him 3 times over w/ his implants over 30 QL above his lvls..
I played Albion and Midgard, mostly healers and tanks, and had loads of fun in RVR. That was honestly the most fun I've ever had out of an MMORPG.
But all 3 of those games dont have squat to what SWG potential is... All 3 of those games were lvl based.
Skill based system (SWG, UO) is infinitly(sp?) more customizable and fun! Granted AO had certain skill sets but you still had to lvl to get skill points.. The skillpoint system in SWG is completely brilliant, I just want 50 more points plz!
Every game has bugs at release considering they were pushed to have it on the shelves by the marketing team or something. Even w/ the horrid bugs the commando suffers I'm still trying to get the acid rifle because i know some day the commando will be completely usefull and needed in high lvl PVP raids against those darn rebels.
Ever since i knew this game was coming out , actually my first inclination was TKA, but then i saw commando and that's what I wanted to be, a combat badass. And since unarmed4 is a req for commando, it would almost be a waste NOT to go TKA as well since im Trando..
Just be patient, the fix will come, whether its a week or 3 weeks the TC has it.. all they have to do is schedule live downtime to impliment it, then more will come.
About the SWG PVP issue I'm not sure, I've spent all of my time grinding =/
Live long and prosper commandos, leave some durnies for me!
I was in EQ fromweek 1, and I think you have forgotten some things about the firstfew months. Most of the dungeons weren't open. The classes weren't balanced at all. The economy was totally whacked. Exploits abounded. They totally underestimated the need for controls on players to keep griefers in line. The boats (which were the ONLY way to get from continent to continent at the time) were so bady bugged that peoplewould strip naked at the bank before taking them.Poorly though out items and spawning ofitems made zones where it was impossible to do anything withoutgetting trained or KS'd (remember Cazic-THule before they nerfed Rubicite?). That's just the beginning of what I can remember. THe difference is that we had never played a game like that before, so we were tolerant.
SWG has a LOT more potential than EQ. The concepts behind the game are better thought out. They have learned from 5 years of MMORPGs what the hot spots for griefers and exploiters will be. And given the time to grow that EQ had, it will certainly be a great game.
