Thread: why be anything more then a novice commando??
This is a real question not a whine
The launcher pistol seems like the best weapon in the line...but it's a pistol
Spending your points on the pistoleer tree seems to get you more then on the commando line.
The faction guns even if better have a limited use ( which is very stupid I'd pay 2x as much to have it last like a real weapon, or an AT-ST
) so are not really worth it.
So is there any real reason to go higher then novice?
newb novice commando...maybe more one day.
Well, there is the fact that you can't hit anything but yourself with anything but the LP at novice. And if you think the LP is the best weapon we have, you haven't read about the stuff in testing right now.
I have no problems hitting with the LP as a novice and no I'm not fighting newb mobs most of the things I'm killing give about 2k-4k exp ( as well as about 1k pistol exp Igues from the moves I use? )
As for the test center changes, well they're not in game yet so I'm still wondering if I can hit for 2k damage with a LP ever 2.5 -3.0 seconds is there anything coming thats going to make going higher then novice worth it?
You'llhave the satisfaction in knowing thatyou worked harder foryour Master title than everyone else did. You'll getto use the guns that people admire, and could only dream of having the dedication it tookyou to become trained in them. You'll walk around with things that go boom and everyone will be in awe. Then you'll wake up
If the LP makes you happy, then by all means stick with novice. I think the rest of us who are crazy enough to grind the combat and HW xp are hoping for a little more rewardthan the launcher pistol. We can only dream...

So am I.
The LP shouldn't be our best weapon and the skills from a diffrent class shouldn't be our best skills. Ofc seeing as commandos have suffered so long as being one of the worst combat classes it'd be nice to see the upper lvl weapons do more then the LP doing less. ![]()

Well since nothing has been said that the changes wont go live, and i believe its supposed to go live in a week its going to make the other weapons useful. You also have to understand this isnt the typical MMO in which you use 1 weapon all your life till something stronger comes along. Weapons and armor in this game have situational use. for instance the flamethrower on test center has some decient damage, but compared to a launcher pistol spaming special attacks the damage is about the same but the launcher is fater. The flamethrower is good for its flamecone special when you are in a group fighting multiple targets you can dot all of them with one attack and do some really high damage. This is just one example every weapon has some tatical use that why you see pistoleers carying 3-4 different pistols different targets are vulnerable to different types of damage and sometimes you need higher armor piercing and many more situations arise, no weapon is good in all situations.
So what makes you happy?
Do you want to torch things? Toss grenades. Shoot rockets. Be a Commando.
If the flamethrower goes live I'm going to be sooo incredibly happy.
Mainly because I'll finally be able to do some damage.
Commando's were a half combat, half crafting profession until about 6 weeks from launch. All the high end launcher, mine, and grenade schematics were theirs. They gave those, (rightly IMHO) to the weaponsmiths and re-introduced the heavy weapons from the old Combat engineer line in their place. Just look at the titles.
Virtually no testing was done in live beta on Combat Engineer before it was axed and when they imported those skill trees into Commando no one ever got there as far as I know. I certainly never heard of a Novice Commando in Beta 2 OR 3.
The net result was that Commando was virtually untested going live. Bio-Engineer with its lats conversion from Farmer suffered the same fate though I do believe we had a few in late beta.
Have faith. I've been working with this game for 10 months now and the one thing I have never faulted it the devs commitment to fixing what is broken, and even with dramatic sweeps when necesary. The first pass is on TC. Its not all the class needs, but its the first HUGE brush stroke to getting Commandos right.
