There seems to be a lot of talk about people switching to Commandos because of the big damage weapons. Well, before you jump on the bandwagon... here's my take on it. I'm a Commando 1/2/2/1.

Halfway up the tree... things are still pretty tough. You'll still be using the Launcher Pistol a lot.

So, I get my shiny new flamethrower and I'm all excited by the new damage/speed. I drop down and do a 3000 damage hit to a durni. Muahahaha!!!

I'm so stoked that I run over to a Swooper that is light blue to me. I fire... miss. He starts firing back. I wait a while for the weapon to recycle andfire... miss. He has me at 1/2 health. He closes... and goes melee. *gulp* As he reaches me, I fire and take him to half health. I heal to full and he drops me back down to 1/3 health... because I'm stuck holding a heavy weapon. I switch to Vibroknuckles and kill him.

Ouch... flamethrowers are great... assuming that you actually hit something.

So, I head to Tantooine to check my harvestors and 2 Scry attack me. They are Light Blue.. so I'm not worried. I figure, I'll flame them. They proceed to chew me alive, while I miss and stand there... locked into my heavy weapon delay period. *Ack*

I heal, switch to pistol and Supression Fire. I switch back to Flamethrower.. but just can't seem to hit them. The continue to beat on me. Finally I get a shot off and insta-kill one. But, now... there is that nasty HW delay again. *ummmm*

So, to make a long story short... YES... you will be the One Shot Wonder as a Commando. BUT... if you miss that one shot... you are not only STUCK with your pants down, but you take more damage from holding the Heavy Weapon... PLUS... they will soon lower your run speed with a HW. PLUS... you have to wait for the weapon cycle to do another special move. So, stacking Suppression fire, Warning Shot, or KD... is an entirely different story with a Heavy Weapon.

The impatient player will probably not enjoy being a Commando. Commandos will be able to turn the tide of a battle if they are supporting a group. But, as a solo power-gaming player... you will probably find that sticking with Bounty Hunter or Pistoleer/Smuggler is a better alternative.

As for me... I love the idea of supporting the melee fighters with the occasionalVorch or BOOM! But, I know that many of the people that I've spoken with prefer to just do a lot of DPS.Commandos REALLY are... hit.. or miss.

Finally proud to come out of the closet and wear my Commando Title,

Tec Zun - Imperial Commando on Tempest
