I used to be a 0/0/4/0 Commando and 4/4/3/0 Doctor, which used up all my points. I had 600k Heavy Weapons Exp sitting around, and I decided I don't really need Wound Healing Speed line, so I droppe it and picked up 0/3/4/0 Commando, and bought a bunch of Heavy Particle Beam Cannons. I am NOT impressed. These things do less damage than my flamethrower and have charges, plus not DoT!! I went to 48 meters away (ideal range) and kneeled, and shot off, hitting for about 4000-5000. Am I doing something wrong, or are these things just not as good as flamethrowers? Are the Heavy Acid Beams or Lightning Cannons any better?

Specialist weapons for special situations. Big mobs vulnerable to certain damage types and for those times you are grouped and working from beyond FT special range to take out something big and nasty.

You really think a weapon doing 4-5k damage as a standard shot (no special) isn't powerfull enough?

Agreed the ammount of charges is a tad on the low side which makes them a little pricey for general use but in the right situation they are pretty cool. Just don't expect to be using them like a pistol.

The Heavy Acid Stream Launcher works well against Mokk...

Heavy Armor Piercing.

Your flamethrower hitting a 100% heat resistant mob is not doing the 5-7k damage shown on your combat screen, but the DOT does do damage. If your flamer hits an ATST it will do (say flamer does 6k damage for an easy number) 6k - 50% heavy armor rating..thats 3k. then another 50% off for medium armor..thats 1.5k ..then another 50% off for light armor..thats 750 damage.

So with your flame single2 you do 750 damage from the attack.. the DOT however will hit 100% (which in my opinion is BS, heat resist rating should lower the flame dot).

Particle Cannon? 5k damage, heavy armor piercing. So it hits, your screen shows 5k damage..atst has 70% energy resist ... you did 1500 damage in 1 shot. But then again you'd be stupid to use a particle cannon on something with high resist to energy.. thats why you have a ROCKET LAUNCHER which fires BLAST damage and the ATST is vulnerable to blast. Ive done over 9k damage to an ATST with 1 shot of a rocket launcher. And thats 9k+ damage applied, nothing subtracted off it. From 64m.

In that light its pretty good damage.

Learn to use your heavy weapons. Acid Streamers may not have the heavy armor piercing, but then again, few creatures have acid resistance. Same with energy for the particle cannon. The Lightning Cannon the same, even though ive never seen one half as good as a particle cannon (damage is like 3k max, not very good.. in this case the flamer is preferable).

Best of all, they are true ranged high damage. I now solo 12k ham creatures in dathomir by shooting a particle or rocket launcher at them, then flame dott'ing them when close, switching to vk's (no im not tkasi) and doing WARCRY (oooh yeah you forgot that brawler ability dintcha? It STOPS creatures from attacking you for 10 whole seconds.. woot! cooldown can bite me!).

'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

I make my own cannons and if you get one with a speed slice, you can fire off 2 or 3 shots in the same time as one flamesingle 1 with a speed sliced flamer, plus in group situations you dont have to worry about the mob running everywhere and getting out of 16m range. And with the heavy acid, you can go unarmed and get your defeense bonuses while you crank out the huge hits.

I was testing on Mokks. They have 40% resistance to energy, and also to heat, and I tested the Heavy Particle Beam Cannon and my Flamethrower on it. You ask if 4000-5000 damage is not enough? No, it isn't, considering I can use my flamethrower and do the same amount of damage or more, faster, WITH a DoT burn. Flamethrower burns also affect things with 100% heat resistance...why bother with any other weapon?

I didn't notice the thing about the standard shot. Yes, I realize it's a standard shot, but I only post due to the fact that no specials for these weapons exist, and I doubt they will ever exist. Maybe flamethrowers need a nerf? Or these need a buff? As they are right now just don't cut it compared to a Flamethrower except maybe in a few situations.
