Thread: DEAR COMMANDO CORRESPONDENT....
Geez you know ... you should be insuring such an expensive weapon.
That being the case only 1% is decayed. 1 freaking percent.
Who cares ?
If your weapon condition is 1000/1000 and you die.
It would now be 990/1000
Oh no ... it's the end of the world
If you didn't insure it would be
950/1000
Again ... oh no ....
Weapons get used and break with time.
Currently death is an exploited transport system. It should hurt like hell to die. This is very minor. I'd rather this than a corpse run and risk dying again and again getting my corpse and only have a limited time to retreiving it or I lose EVERYTHING.
I'd rather this minor loss of condition to my weapon than losing a ton of xp.
I die several times a day. Anyone who plays on the high end does.
I think this is the poorest excuse I've ever seen for a death penalty.
Especially when you toss in the fact that repairing guns/armor fails more often than not. I could live with a 5% fail on guns with 95% kit, but it seems to be more along the lines of 25% regardless of the quality of your repair kit.
Oh, and then there's the armor.
And your clothes.
Not to mention the fact that if you get wounds and pay for cloning, your brand new clone starts off with those wounds.
Dying has penalties. If they could just fix the stupid corpse bugs, having to do corpse runs would be enough.
Shrug.
Time is the most valuable asset we have. Unlike money or other tangible items, time can not be retrieved once it is lost. With that in mind I think time is penalty enough for dieing.
Why are the devs and a select few players dead set on causing an in-game penalty to cause real life reprocussions?
Why must I be "punished"while playing a game?
This concept is assinine. We have to wait 10 up to ten minutes per shuttle (yesterday I was on Lok and needed to get to Dantooine, with piss poor timing it took me almost 30 minutes to get there). We have to wait in a hospital to lose wounds after death. Then we have to wait in a cantina to lose more wounds and battle fatigue. Then I have travel time to get back to my previous location.
What happened to this game being designed for the casual gamer as originally stated?
Ivoni is correct, for those of us that push the envelope when we play it is possible to die frequently. 1-5% will add up and there is no reliable way to counter this since repair are often more fatal than helpful. This change will effect combat in a very negative way.

Well if catering to casual gamers is the key than time should not be the consequence.
Maybe the dev's plan to patch the repair kits along with the item decaying ?
I find it weird we don't even require food or water, we should need a constant supply of food. Scouts being able to forage would be helpfull.
Okay I hate the item decay idea also... The guy who said it was no big deal to lose 1% was wrong. Unless I am just farming cash, the mobs I fight all DB. Since I am not a CH anymore, if I get incapped, I get killed, it is simple. There are usually 2 mobs on me at once, so even if 1 dies, the other will DB me. Okay now if I die 5 times a day, with normal use of my weapons, I am probably down 70 - 100 condition in one day. that means my weapons last 10 - 14 days if they started at 1000 condition (rare most of mine start 900/900 ish). The same thing goes for clothes, armor, etc. If you add it up, on my server, that means I need to spend around 300,000 credits every 2 weeks to maitain my equipment as it is now. Also with the crafter changes, future equipment is going to be significantly lower quality compaired to what we are getting now. Add in the fact that resources change, and you may not actually be able to replace your really good equipment for months.
Equipment decay upon death is wrong as long as there is absolutely no way to continuously repair or replace it at comparitive quality.
Bikebum:
I agree with you... death decay is a BAD idea. However, my only point is, with decay, a 10/10 condition item will decay exactly as fast as a 1000000000000000000000000/1000000000000000000000000 item.
And again, I think there's something wrong with that. Maybe make decay a fixed amount, rather than a percentage?
Either way, decay sucks, and shouldn't even be considered.

Do you think perhaps your dying 5 times a day because there is no penalty to dying ?
So your not scared of being DB'd ... you'll play far more risky than you should.
Perhaps you'll be more carefull with decay ?
Rather than moan about it, come up with a better alternative. Either way, something needs to be done about dying. And I really don't want to see corpse runs ... They sucked, They sucked in Everquest. Sometimes you would lose your corpse (didn't remember where it is) and you lost all your loot.
who the hell is this basterd paycheck frickin idet i wish i could ban him
i tell you there should be no death pantelty at all i wall out to see the sarlac pit 4000m out long wall i get out there there ant nothing worth seeing defintly not worth the time i spent wallking there !!! and now they whant me to wallk all the way back heck no i ant wasting my time db me
