Thread: Aspiring commando here, need some advice
Hey everybody, Im a soon-to-be Imperial commando on the tarquinas server. Im looking for some advice on how to be a commando and i got some questions too.
1.) Ive yet to start on the long, painful road to unarmed 4. Im wondering what it takes to use a vibro knuckler. It says teras kasi novice. Is this right?
2.) Flamethrower is the only good commando weapon, correct? I fired an acid rifle once and I was like "Uhh... what the h
ell was that?" I saw no acid. **edit** ugly weapons.
3.) Should I eat food all the time and use spice to buff up? I have to say I hate having to use that kind of crap to succeed.
4.) should I spend countless days and hundreds of thousands of credits searching for and buying an uber powerful krayt weapon?
well, I'm a commando (one box away from master on sunrunner), and I'll answer your question...
1) you can use vibro knuckle at anyone unarmed skill (just that your damage is kind of same as when you are truly unarmed.. but the speed from the vibro knuckle is good
2) For all the heavy weapon you'll get as commando, Flamethrower will be most useful. Launcher pistol is a ok weapon, with no good specials with it, it is just annoys the heck out of poeple (teh blast causes some lag sometimes *at least to me*...) and under the Heavy Weapon Support, you get the fun yet expensive toys
3) well, I get buffed, but I don't eat that much food nor drinks nor spice.. but people found them useful.
4) I say no need for Krayt weapons.. (I have a unsliced flamethrower that is 400 - 800 damage with 4.9 sec, and I love it.. it is fairly good, but you can find better ones sliced..)
Some thoughts:
1. Vk's used to be usable to get unarmed 1-4, however I believe that got changed recently and you cannot use them anymore until novice. I also have seen a post stating that an individual was recently able to equip VK's after unarmed 3 (working on 4). Check the TKA forum for up to date stuff on VKs.
2. Flamethrowers are our best weapon, but not the only good one. As a novice, you are still probably best off with the LP. Later on, the Heavy weapons and grenades become useful tools in several circumstances, however nothing will replace your FT after you get /flamesingle2.
3. You do not need spices, buffs, or food, but like any class they can certainly help. I would say that good kinetic resist armor is a must now days for up and coming commandos.
4. No. The addition of krayt tissues to FTs only add a marginal bonus for their overall cost. Is the bonus nice? Yes. Necessary? No.

Like the post before mine stated...VK's are usable...the Dev's made a change a couple of months pack where they moved the VK cert from unarmed 4 to TKA Novice (so they would have their own weapon)...When you equip the VK's you get a message that you are not certified to use them and will suffer a damage penalty...you will basically hit for less damage, but 2 or 3 times as fast...so in the same time it took without using them, you will in fact do more damage...SO USE THEM!!!!
Make yourself a good macro on the way...I have mine with stun1;/blind1;unarmed;spinattack1; or something like that...as you get each of the unarmed specials add it to your macro...then just keep spamming your macro as you fight...and use stim packs like candy...lol...
And by all means...use a pistol to hit /healthshot1 before switching to your VK's....if you do it fast enough you get all unarmed and no pistol xp...the bleed will speed up the process. If you have enough xp, get novice pistoleer just for /healthshot2 at least...even if it's just temporary, healthshot2 rules and is stackable with healthshot1...I was able to take down some big game unarmed by first stacking the 2 bleeds...leading in some cases to 1500 unarmed xp per kill...
