Thread: Update October 1st

I've been getting a lot of messages asking if Commando is being nerfed, asking when the DEVs are going to address our requests, etc. To clear up some of the confusion, I want tobring everyone up to date regarding the current situation.

First, my end of things... I've submitted my first report but have not yet received a response. I know that no one agrees with everything in the report butI always intended it to be more a set of talking points than anything else. Nothing is set in stone. each point was merely something to discuss with the developers.

When I was appointed Correspondent, I was told that I was to submit reports approximately every two weeks and that responses could take upwards of two weeks. All of this was to be done by e-mail. Frankly, that wasn't good enough for me or for you. I've been pushing to get regular teleconferences with the developers. I even went so far as to call Xahn on the telephone (don't ask how I got the number) and press for the teleconferences. So far, no word on whether they will occur or not. I will continue to push for them as phone conversations are much better and faster for discussing issues and sharing ideas than e-mail.

I've also created a character on Test Center and joined the PA set up for the Correspondents. The idea behind the PA is to allow online conversations between Correspondents and, occasionally, developers. I did have a brief conversation with Q3PO but he was fairly busy at the time, so nothing meaty was discussed.

Now, the DEVS' end of things... Q3PO has hired an Assistant Community Relations Manager. This person will be working directly with the correspondents and will be the primary person we report to. He'll be the Correspondents' Correspondent, taking our sugestions and questions to the programmers. The bad news is that the Assistant Community Relations Manager won't start work for another week to ten days. So, I won't be able to have direct communication with him until then.

In addition, the primary developer for commandos is currently on vacation and won't be back until next week. So, with the developer and the Assistant community Relations Manager both unavailable for now there is little I can do. Starting next week, I'll be tracking down the developer and trying to get some one on one time to see where things are going.

In the mean time, no one in a position of authority has said anything to me about nerfing Commandos or any other profession, so stop sweating it. There has been some discussion, and I repeat, DISCUSSION, about making some general changes to the combat system. These possible changes may include a few which affect commandos, such as changing commando weapons to be seen as "ranged" not melee weapons, reducing the dot effect of flamethrowers, and removing defensive bonuses from the commando line. None of these are big changes and none have been approved internally by the developers. These are not nerfs and they are only ideas at the moment, so stop worrying about being nerfed. The original post which lists possible changes to combat is at:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=565036

Read the post. It will tell you more about possible changes coming up than anyone crying nerf.

So that's where we stand at the moment. Be patient. As soon as someone who can address current commando issues becomes available, I'll be on them like flies on #*@!....

It would be ridiculous if they rmeove defensive bonus from our lines.

1. I am a WOOKIE (I get jack to use for armor)

2. We get +10 bonus and it fro stun / knockdown / etc...

3. As a Wookie + Commando what defensive bonus do I get if not in my elite ... nothing .. BAH dumb plan.

ps: the rets of the things I dont care about but removing more of our stuff when we only get 4 special moves is justa stoopid idea.

What defensive modifiers are they talking about? The ones from the Heavy Weapons line, if you read Q-3POs post? Are ther defensive modifiers in the HW line?

Good to hear from you synn. Even thought you had no fireworks to show us you still let us know something was going on and I for one, really appreciated it.

Uh..... Let's just say that Xahn was a bit surprised to find me on his phone. I will say, though, that he was very professional and honest about where things stand. I think the developers are doing the best they can working for SOE. They're just working class Joes like the rest of us, with families and lives outside of the office. I'm doing my best to speed up the communications process but much of the bureaucracy the developers have to deal with is dictated by SOE.

Also, I do post in the Correspondents Forum but there aren't any big secrets being discussed about commandos. As I said in my update post, the two people who I need to talk to directly aren't available for at least another week. Even then, the Correspondents Forum is only one place they read and post, so it's not the best way to communicate. The best thing about that forum is the ability to deal more directly with other correspondents. Anyway, my point is, you're not missing much. That forum isn't the "hotline to the DEVs" that everyone seems to think it is.

I sometimes wonder if other correspondents inflate their position when discussing matters with those they represent. Getting the attention of the developers isn't that much easier for us than it is for you. We're still pretty low on the food chain. I'm doing my best to be the squeaky wheel, so that I can get some direct communication when the right people become available. Until then, squeak, squeak...

Nicely done. Stalking Xahn eh?? LOL.

About DOTs....a step in the right direction would be limiting them to 1 of each type vs the stacking we have atm.

Why's that? Bleeds stack....why shouldn't fire stack?

Well there is logic in being able to bleed from more than one wound at a time... How exactly does one set something on fire that is already on fire?

More fuel = bigger fire = more damage over time....

Stacking burns sounds fair to me, although I guess I'd be willing to let them tone down the wounds a bit :/

More fuel means a longer duration fire not a hotter fire. It would make more sense for the dots to run consecutively not concurrently =)
