is there anything that affects how the dots work on commando weapons like the flamethrower for example the dot just seams random on when it sticks ,how much damage it does and how long it lasts. is there anything that can be done to increase the over all affect of the dots ?like how the weapon is built ?or my skill mods such as my accuracy?or even the wound chance on the weapon ?any info would really help. thank you for the input.

This is indeed a confusing thing. I don't think anyone knows for sure and this kind of testing would take a lot of statistical data and may turn up to be totally random. Some things that would have to be tested would be chance of actually landing the DoT, how long the DoT lasts, how much damage the DoT does. A preliminary study could be done on a single creature type with ranged shot only. Then you could vary weapon (PFT, LBC, Thermal D, Proton Grenade) while trying to keep wound chance and elemental damage constant. Vary elemental damage while keeping the weapons the same including damage range. Then vary wound chance while trying to keep the weapon and damage range constant. Of course you'd have to take oohh 100 or so shots at the same creature type for each weapon in each test and tallie up how long the DoT lasted (would require you to wait until it ran out), how much damage the DoT did per tick, how often the DoT landed (out of total number of shots).

If you actually read all of that, you can see how long this would take in terms of:
1. getting a weaponsmith to make all of the different weapon types
2. finding a suitable critter to test on (tough, weak attack, plentiful)
3. actually performing the tests and tallying up the data
4. performing analysis afterwards

Of course, if this could be broken up with different people testing it wouldn't take too long. Of course it would really be expensive. So...in short no one knows, and I doubt anyone wants to take the time to find out.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention testing chance to land the DoT on secondary creatures within the AOE. Of course every variation described above would have to be tested (that's a lot of reading the combat log). Oh, and varying range while keeping the weapon constant (does the DoT have a better chance of sticking from point-blank or maximum weapon range?). Yeah...looots of testing.
