I've read the armor announcement, are those three new types on top of the ubese, and comp stuff? where do our current armors fit in?

The devs haven't said yet...but they have said publically that other things will "convert" to the new system...so maybe we'll see the same for current armor...We'll have to wait and see what the Devs reveal in the next few CU doc posts...

The new armor is just factional armor. The old armor will be there too, but converted to work in the new system. At least that is what I think I read.

Not enough info out to know. We will have to wait and see. I think you will want to use different armor types depending on the situation. So instead of always using comp armor, since it is the "best" against all types of damage, now you will have different situations and damage types that will predict what armor to use. At least in theory . . .

I'm buying every kind of armor I can get my hands on. Would suck if all my comp turned intocumbersome POS's that my TKA skills won't work in...evenbought some bone--you never know.

I don't think I would go as far as buying all the types of armour in the game...
However, all the old weapons and armour would have to be converted to the new system due to two reasons:
1) Will imbalance the game if they're kept in - ESPECIALLY armour
2) If they're all deleted...we'll have a lot of unhappy people that will undoutedly run amok in Austin, TX and set fire to Tiggs' car or the soe HQ - something we all want to avoid
A conversion process most likely will happen...otherwise SOE would be in a pickle, things can change mind you...so until they give an official statement for a process, take what I say with a grain of salt.
Also - what you read about new types of armour...they're more of a catagory for existing and the new factional armours to be placed under.

Aaaaahh....Austin TX check.
j/k
The new types of armor might be 'jacked the*bleep*ed up' in price. Hope the armor smiths don't get greedy the first month or 5. I'm a 'poor' commando...especially if they take away the macro'in (I knowmacro'in is taboo in this forum and with other commando's).
And with the bazaar changes...I'll have to sell my cheap looted goods at an even cheaper price.

I'll tell you where composite suits will fit: the same ecological niche those 'Frampton Comes Alive' records played in people's basements in the 1980s. Hopefully, what was once so universal it was nearly issued to you when you started, will be replaced by the dozens of other types out there.
At the very least, I can't wait to get my hands on some Imperial assault armor. We commandos are going to look entirely too cool in that stuff. Heck, I even like the rebel heavy gear now.

Well, deleting them as I mentioned would most likely be the extreme course of action if they can't do a conversion...as they wouldn't want out of system weapons and armour unbalancing the new system. So im guessing the devs are (and SHOULD be if they arent!) working pretty hard on a conversion process...

Well, since they say that there will basically be 3 catagories of armor (well 6 if you count basic and advanced) Light/Recon, Battle and Assault.
Scout Trooper= Recon
StormTrooper= Battle
AssaultTrooper= Assault
Recon is +vs Energy, -vs Kinetic
Battle is =vs Energy, =vs Kinetic
Assault is -vs Energy, +vs Kinetic
Going then by the idea that they also said that you would gain certifications based on profession and ability, and the fact that Faction armor will be as functional as current crafted armor, I think they will break it down like this:
Advanced Recon:
ScoutTrooper
RebelScout
Ubese
Advanced Battle:
Stormtrooper
Rebel Marine
Padded
(RIS)
Advanced Assault:
Assault Trooper
Rebel Assault
Composite
(Mandalorian)
Basic Recon:
Tantel
Basic Battle:
Mabari
Basic Assault:
Chitin
General No Cert Armor:
Bone
Only my guess based on the structure of the armor types. The light armors are generally "soft" with less rigid parts. The Assault armors are "hard" with thick, rigid protective parts. And of course the Battle is the middle of the road, balancing out both.
Would seem logical... but then when has that ever been a factor

From what i have gathered, the Epic armors (Mandolorian & RIS) will be the "best" armors available.
Your armors will basicaly be "skinned" and used for specific professions. I.e Recon = Scout/Ranger/Pistoleer/Fencer
Then you would move into your heavier classes... Commando getting the Toughest, but slowest.
I wish the devs would start posting ingriedients, resources, information for us............... instead of giving us pictures of 30 year old ships that existed in another timeline for the FF's, but hay, thats just my opinion.

I just want to know wheremy "epic" armor is. I hope it's in the next expansion. I won't be amused if there is another wookiee imbalance to lock me out of high end content again, or at the least give me a handicap vs the top available. The wook armor is just recently getting available enough, good enough, and cheap enough on my server to allow me to hit the really tough stuff with my friends. Naturally, the upcomming armor changes are something I view with a very low degree of confidence. I don't trust the people that figured an extra couple hundred HAM would be the equivalent of a 65% reduction (pre layer fix) in damage, or better yet, allowed for the disparity of a 95% or more damage reduction (post layer fix), then decided the MOBs in game were just too dang easy for everyone including those with no access to armor protection and allowed that condition to remain until faced with hundreds of angry, fed up players crashing servers. Again, I don't trust them. They haven't earned it.
