Hello Commandos of the world. Just a little story I thought I would share with all of you.

Like so many other people I was dupped into the grenading method of grinding by promises of quick combat xp. This promisewas very true and the xp poured on quickly. However, after reaching novice commando and realizing that I know qualified to use the FT and LP I figured I'd pick up one of each for amusement. After an entire buff set of just running around Dant killing anything I came across using my LP I decided that I should give it a go to master commando. The grind is slow but I'm actually having a blast doing it (which is something that hasn't happened for awhile on the ground). I did finish up the grenade tree first, though. I would recommend this to any new commandos. I found myself in over my head more than once. But, after a few thermal detonators, the playing field would even back up again

So, even though the grenading jedi-hopefuls may be abusing the wonderful skills of real commandos, there are still a few that converted to this wonderful profession by that same method.

I look forward tofinishing up my training and joining the ranks of the Master Commandos

The grenade tree first heh?

Interesting, but FT's are most definately the item to grab at first IMO. Glad to see you found some enjoyment in the class, and didn't make the mistake so many did during that terrible period of the hologrind. Too many people mastered classes only to drop them, never tasting the flavor of their hard won professions. One really great thing about the FS grinding, is grenades are now being regularly produced. The benefit to this, is once they are useful in actual combat, we won't have to look too hard for them.

Hope you don't mind, but I would like to share my own tale of my path back to this profession.

I thought maybe some of the other commandos here might enjoy it.

I started life on SWG as a weaponsmith. I was happy enough crafting the usual pistols and rifles, the occassional power hammer or vibrolance. Few had discovered the stun baton or tangle pistol at that point, but i did a fair trade in those as well. I really didn't look much at commando weapons. They seemed to be too limited in terms of longevity to bother with the trouble to craft (especially that infernal rocket launcher). Well, as a crafter, you get to know a great many people, and make many friends. A commando friend of mine begged long enough for me to craft a rocket launcher for him, that I finally broke down and did it. 4 days later, anda crate of themwas ready for him. They really didn't do all that much to the Krayt we were hunting, but something happened to me that night as I watched that flash andstreak of smoke spiraling towards the dargon. My screen rocked with each hit from his grenades and FT. My days as a crafter of weapons was over that night, though it took me months to admit as much to myself.

I went from novice pistoleer to master first, then worked to master marksman. I had already been a master smuggler/master weaponsmith, so brawler was already out of the way. With a launcher pistol in hand, I made tier 3 Flame Throwerin short order. Tier 4, grenadier at the time, was easy from there. In the days before buffs were commonplace, and also before armor was even available for anyone of my species, I was soon taking down entire patrols of stormtroopers, with a grin from ear to ear as each concentratedstream of fire errupted from the nozzle of my flamer.

Then, the unthinkable.... I was bitten by the holobug. To my shame, I put down my flamethrower and passed through several professions. The problem for me, is I wanted to keep each long enough to really understand each class, and derive enjoyment from it. In the end, the want to actually play the game doomed my hologrind to failure, and I had in the meantime dropped the classes I truly loved. Commando, TK, Ranger, Pike, Pistoleer, Smuggler.... each had become dear to me. The roar of heavy weapons though, is something you just never shake once it is in your blood....

I had a plan for maximum FS grinding, and grenades were not part of it. Rifles accumulate exp and combat exp faster than any grenade chucker ever will, even if you do actually have to move around a little to get at it. Pike's area attacks are also fierce in this regard. I finally got the good advice I needed from a friend. I was complaining that I was feeling bored, and he said "I don't play it unless it's fun. I don't care about being powerful, or gaining FS exp quickly. I play what I like to play, because I think it's cool." It finally sank in. The firsthologrind didn't teach me. The new hologrind (FS trees)didn't teach me. Thank goodnessI have great in game friends that can tell me to pull my head out of my rear from time to time.

So, I put down my Rifles ( I can still play with my bowcasters) and put down my pike (which I will miss) and ground back to my true passions Teras Kasi and Commando. Have I ever mastered Commando? No. My Master Commando friend said not to bother mastering, FT's are enough. I very much look forward now to the CU, and tasting the full flavor of this profession.

/bow2 to all you commandos that stayed the course, and were not lured away by the false promises of 4 masters and one hidden profession to achieve something I found I just don't care about anyway. The only joy greater than discovering commando for the first time, is picking it up again, and finding that the fit is still like a favorite tee-shirt. Happily, sometimes, you can go home. Glad to be back.

/bow4 to you both.

Nice story Tyyy, I as well had dropped commando for a while in order to hologrind, but you are right once you have the heavy weapon roar in your blood... nothing seems to quench that. We have a nice Tat wooly spawn currently, so I dropped medic to take novice scout and went on a Bantha genocide mission with a MP/MBH guildy to harvest some for our AS.

Minutes in, he asked, "Why did you go back to commando? I knew you liked it, but what about it is so special for you to go back bro?" I got a good laugh going at the keyboard and just said... "Man I like to blow <insert foul word here> up". He wanted me to show him the "Art of Commando"... everyone has seen the flamer, but not everyone has seen the destruction a commando can do. I wish I had the sense to take screenies for the quick scenarios I will briefly describe.

Desert sands of Tatooine... I introduce him to the weaker power of the HAR. It is not the best, but it drops Bantha's fast. We continue our harvest work, and a double sized squad of ST's (No Nova troops) sung a hostile toon on our radars. I sent a rocket in and caused a big stir with his gunslinging and my strafing fire from a rifle ending it rather quickly... we moved on to more soon to be armor hide. I began demonstrating various grenades and the shear power they can produce with good accuracy (+25 on top of master commando with range experimented munitions). My friend was laughing a bit saying wow at the explosions. He had seen a good majority there and had a good time just witnessing the various effects of our arsenal.

Theed,Naboo cantina... we had a long night and needed to relax a bit and heal up some battle fatigue. It is a rebel controlled city at the moment there, so music in peace should have been a relief... The emperor says otherwise. Listening to a nice tune and enjoying the dancers grace, a lone trooper invades our tranquility... wow his day he complains about rebels entering is about to become worse in a way he never imagined. Tholus wearing rebel insignia himself began to reach for his mandalorian sidearm, when I interjected, "You wanted to see a commando work? Steady the hand and watch the fireworks mate". He laughed knowing all hell was about to break loose in the peaceful cantina. After being spotted, and recognized as a rebel officer... the trooper called for backup. He brought in 1 in each corner at the rear of the cantina as well as 2 more from behind me. I sent a proton grenade, unstrapping my T21 to the middle of the chamber and finished him with a few quick blasts from my repeater. Two at close range was not my pleasure, but a pyrotechnics display could be nice... so the met a fairly quick burst of cones of flame and breathed their last. I picked my T21 back up and took a good few shots at the head of the trooper to the far right and back to end his tyranny, and dropped my rifle to the ground firing off one huge blast from my heavy particle beam cannon to the last remaining trooper to the back and far left. The situation is neutralized...

It was a blast (literally), and a friend saw that we are not a weak class, just a fun class that will hopefully be as strong as we should be in the long run. Heh, he said man I wanna keep BH, and will give up my DE-10 if commando will be able to be mastered with BH after the CU. I had done my job using both rifleman and commando and had fun, he had seen the arsenal of a commando in it's current state and thought it just looked fun and if done correctly, deadly. Weak mobs or not, he understood the role we have of explosions and the ability to mix professions.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to throw that out for some reason.

We converted an FS grinder?

Holy crap!

And as for everyone's commando stories...I curse you all; I don't have an interesting story as to why I went commando.

My first character was a pistoleer/AS on Flurry, and when the server was down one day, I passed the time by making funny looking toons and deleting them. Finally, I made a Trandoshan, tall as I could make him, lean and muscular, and I tried to shape his head to more closely resemble a dragon. I liked the toon too much to delete him, so I picked a server (Valcyn), and named him Ryubushi (ryu meaning 'dragon', and bushi meaning 'warrior'). Looking at his size and build, I knew immediately that there was only one profession trulysuited for a character like this; commando (besides, doesn't every dragon need to destroy things with fire?). I skipped the newb tutorial, loaded in Mos Espa, and went out to start shooting anything that moved so as to hurry along on my path to commando.

Since then, Ryu has become my primary toon (though I still play my Flurry character sometimes).

***Valcyn - Lt. Colonel Ryubushi [ONE] of the Empire (the Tank Maniac); Career Master Commando, Master Carbineer, and extremely Anti-NGE.
***Eclipse - Ryushidosha, freelancer; Scaley Master Carbineer, ranger, merc for hire, and general sociopath...that despises the NGE.
***StarSider - Ja'ahn Woo [PYRO] of the Alliance - The Galaxy's first Jawa commando/carbineer...who also hates the NGE.

People like me...because I force them to...with violence!

Same thing as above happened to me. I mastered commando first and held if for a while then the lure of other professions became too much and I have been through master WS, Ranger and Rifleman. But with the GCW heating up it time to strap the old flamer on with the added bonus of master pistoleer for the launcher.

Lets face it we are not the uber profession for pvp but P vs E we are still the most fun proession in the game and the title just sounds really hard

Im here for the FS grind, but loving it. I've invested money into nice flamers and gonna run around killing krayts til CU so I'll have pearls for my jedi char that I haven't played in a year. Commando just rocks. You guys shouldn't be too worried about FS'ers abusing you for exp, cause everyone will eventually pick up a flamer for fun to try it and be in total awe. I was. =)

I too was going the way of commando for the jedi grind but as soon as I got flamethrower 3 and started using my ft I was hooked I love the weapon so much.
I want to go master but was thinking is flame cone 2 and 30 more accuracy worth it.
