Thread: Master Combat Medic & Master Commando (A newcomer seeks help)

Hello Everyone, I am new to SWG and the community. I am working my way towards MCM and I am looking for a nice second profession. I want to be able to use assault armor but I don't want to go Bounty Hunter (too many, too common). From reading the forums I think I understand that Commando does not have any special attacks. My question is this: Would MCM and Master Commando be viable in PvE AND PVP? Will the offensive specials of Combat Medic make up for the lack in Commando? And if so, where would you put the rest of the points? Pistoleer? Carbineer? Rifleman?

Master Commando and Master Combat Medic, IMO, is not efficient use of your Skill Points.

Combat Medic can function completely by itself.

Master Commando is absolutely reliant on another ranged combat profession. You need to master another ranged profession or dabble into alot of them to make Commando viable.

The combination of MCM and MCommando just eats so many SPs that the Commando portion of your template will be too slow, low on damage potential (low combined accuracy with heavy weapons), and a very noticeable lack of specials.

If I were to pick a hybrid-elite profession to go with MCM, I would pick Bounty Hunter.

That's what I have, with some force sensitive boxes and pistoleer 0004. This gives me bodyshot from Novice Pistoleer, Aimed Shot, Ranged shot, Improved Stopping, and Improved Fanshot as my specials. The far right tree of pistoleer also improves your defense. I like it for PvE ok, I can't comment on PvP because Jedis still hate CM even after the combat upgrade did away with 6-tuple poison and disease stacking. You are the dot master. In a group I am insanely good. By myself I'm ok, could be better if I learned the cm skills better. With CM you've got a root, a snare, two good dots, a way of increasing the enemy's time between attacks, good self healing, excellent group healing, battle (CM )and assault armor (Commando)certifications, and tons of weapons options (although not all commando weapons are working fully still). Although the commando weaps aren't working quite up to par yet, you can use Lightning Beam Cannon, Acid Stream Launcher, and Plasma Flamethrower or Proton rifle pretty well with these professions. Someday grenades will be worth it too, and they will up your damage output a bit. right now their timers suck. It's like 300+ seconds between throws. You can use an Alliance Disruptor pistol (Master cm) as a reliable sidearm for pulling stuff into flamethrower range without aggroing too much.


Start off with your neurotoxin to set poison dot, then deuterium toss or flamethrower to set fire dot. Use a rocket launcher to knockdown your opponent with Improved Stopping because it also roots. Run into 10m range and apply your cm snare (electrolyte drain) as the root wears off. Switch to flamethrower and burn away. I like the combo.
