Thread: Question about potential Commando dabbling

I am looking into dabbling in Commando, both for the Launcher Pistol and Heavy Support Weapons I to perform the faction base shutdown task for Commando, and with all the other skills I am taking I will have 9 skill points left over.

So my question is, what in Commando is best to take with those 9 skill points? I can finish off the Heavy Support Weapons tree (appealing at first glance because I get a title and a whole tree) or I could take the first two boxes in Flamethrower, Heavy Acid Rifle, or Field Tactics. It sounds like Flamethrower is the best of those three, so what do you experienced Commandos think? Better to have all of Heavy Support or half of Flamethrower? Will I have any chance of hitting anything with the Flamethrower? Are the Heavy Support Weapons any good?

Thanks in advance!

Id say your spending to many points to dable in commando at all. Support weapons 1 does you know good at all since even at master commando you will barely hit and the LP hasnt been very impressive IMHOin comparison to other pistoleer pistols sice they nerfed it with the FWG5s. If you really want to even attempt to use HWs ( I dont know why you would, if your looking for blast damage id say go HS as its cheaper skill pool) then go all the way up that line. Forget the FT unless you can get box 4 and even then, yes you have nice initial hit, but if you look beyond that, DPS sucks and without full speed and as much accuracy as possible since even at master speed is ony like +45 and accuracy at like 110, it isnt as powerful as people think it is. The only time its any good is if you drop your target with one hit and with no AP and things with high heat resist you'll find most of times that doesnt happen. Anyone that tells you thats not true needs to go fight the tougher things in the game such as the Geo Laband leave torturs and crap alone.

The thing is that until you get master you are slow and inaccurate with heavy weapons and they are expensive. I see you are a weaponsmith so this might not be such as issue for you. The field tactics is about the same with the same drawback but since you can make your own nades....Do Smugglers get ranged mitigation? If not, then the field tactics might be a good idea since you can get ranged mitigation 2 with that tree.

Unless you can get the whole flame tree I would not go that route - 2 boxes won't be that great due to accuracy and speed.

Okay so it sounds like Heavy Support is the way to go. I was noticing that if I get Heavy Support 4, I'll be as good as I can be with all the Heavy Weapons except the Rocket Launcher (which gets additional bonuses at Master Commando). Is that true? Or do Rocket Launcher skill mods apply to the Heavy Acid Beam, Heavy Particle Beam and Lightning Cannon?

At Heavy Weapons 4 you are as good as you can get with HPBC, HAB, and the Lightning Cannon. Master Commando ony gives mods for the Rocket Launcher, so yes you are correct.
