Thread: A Comandos Unique Group role

Don't me wrong I love commando and the weapons we weild. I was commando pre cu and still am and will continue to be.



OUR UNIQUE ROLE IS TO BE THE FIRST TO DIE TO ALLOW MEDICS, and DOCs to get xp.


Our automatic area of attack that only damages the primary target andcauses everything within range to attack us.


Our main weapons don't deal that much damage. I have a plasma flamethrower that has 1105 max damage and I get a higher DPS mod on both a FWG5 and an Elite Carbine.


In a group commando weapons get me killed if the group isnt pulling one or two enimies at a time.


I have 275 melle def and 255 ranged def a great set of shocktrooper armor and I have trouble with level 80 npcs(Im level 80) even with a stomach full of pikita pie, air cake, and synthsteak. It took me an hour to take out a veteran sith hunter(CL80). I just have to forget about trying to take out a level 82 krayt.


The best way for me to stay alive in a group is to use a pistol or carbine and not use my specific group role. Was the devs plan to have a profession that dies alot? I was hoping commando would be better after the cu but I kinda think it was better before. Atleast before i could do a knockdown then a flame single 2 for 12,000 damage. Now a good hit for me is 2,000.

I am a commando, and I use a carbine.


In every questionaire about the CU, I replied "1" to the question: "do you feel like your profession has a unique role in your group?"


With 1 being the lowest, as in "heck no!".


Sadly, they never asked me what profession I am/was.



I'm a commando with a carbine. Fearing to use his own weapons. Knowing that weak guns gets me killed, no matter built in special. Dying to feel like a commando again.

I still enjoy the weapons and the graphics related, but usually have to be very careful about when I use them.

The truest sadness is that many of these issues, which are not just cries for tweaks and improvements, but REPAIRS (not temporary or minor fixes, but REPAIRS for the long-term survival of commando as a profession) were identified before cu was even thought of (such as the low damage, difficult craftability of rocket launchers) or were bugged by us in beta. The commando community is strong, patient, creative, attentive, patient, willing to help when it comes to getting the help we need, but when? Starnick has a very difficult job. I believe he has truly done everything he can. We know we have Helios working on it, but we (correct me if I'm wrong) have seen 12 instances of server downtime where logging in following the downtime has required code to be downloaded since the CU. I don't care if the fix isn't tomorrow, or wednesday, or even this week or the week after, but I believe we deserve a timetable on when we can expect issues with our CORE SYSTEMS and ROLE DEFINITION to be given the attention they deserve. I think the commando community deserves much respect for the way we have offered solution after solution to any problem we have instead of just whining about it. I know commandos hit CURB beta pretty hard and bugged a lot of these issues, but they still exist. When can we get the help we desperately need and I feel, badly deserve?

    If SOE will take days/week/weeks/or longer ("soon") to resolve the problem, I think that they should extend the "respec" period to allow us to change our characters once SOE makes all professions "work as intended."

    Otherwise, it's going to be hard to stay Commando, much to my regret.

    Although I dont disagree with you (as we should have at least a couple of our own special attacks) we are meant to use other professions for our specials. If your a Commando/Smuggler youll find the mass agro problem easy to manage. As a Master Smuggler/Commando I simply hit Concussion shot with my Lightning Cannon and root just about everything around. If they have ranged skills Panic Shot from Smuggler and Intimidate from Pistoleer means they do a lot less dmg while the rest of the group gets up to speed to do their do. I cant say I have suffered the mass agro thing ever being a problem but it also makes it obvious that Commando isnt a proffesion on its own more a "bolt on" to a main profession.

    And that is not a problem? That our profession is not a unique profession, with it's own role in groups and combat?

    That we're what others use to build their professions.


    We stopped being commandos, we're now Smugglers, Carbineers, Riflemen, BH's, Pistoleers, who use commando to strengthen their professions.

    And thats the problem.


    The devs focused on giving everyone a role and a uniqueness in the game. We lost ours, and are nothing more than a supplement with weak guns. Everything we can do, someone else can do much better. We don't earn our 5 in damage dealing. we dont have a group role, we aint unique.

    Pick up Pistoleer for about 10 minutes and get fan shot. Try fanshotting a group of enemies with a launcher pistol. Then switch to an FWG5 or something. The Launcher Pistol hits secondary targets for 0-1. The FWG5 hits for a couple hundred points of damage. How are we supplementing anything if we can't even make other profession's specials work? Borked, and still not fixed nearly a month after CU, when most of the issues in commando were bugged in beta. I'm glad commandos worked hard in beta to get the shaft while SOE goes on vacation with our profession not working. Maybe they should pay their testers?

    Empasis on that last one there. We ARE their testers basically since they dumped a beta on us. So yeah.. where's my damn paycheck? And why the____ am I paying to test their product before it's really ready? Some one a while back said the EULA stated they'd never do that kinda thing to us. But that seems to be all they've done with the CU. And as I understand have doen since the launch of the game.

    Were suppose to agro Mobs for everybody, otherwise all the Mobs would be stuck for in walls forever ya know. Plus If your part of Uber Lewt group you can Agro everything to you so that they don't have move and you can die as they kill everything with their better DPS and Specials.
