My main character is a weaponsmith but I am getting bored of the pointless grinding to get anywhere (no one buys any of the lower end weapons when they can save up for something much better!)

Combat seems more my thing and commando fits this well, I could retain my lower end weaponsmith skills and create better grenades etc. I've been to test center to look at the changes to commando and with the loss of the grenade components (they have not been moved into weaponsmith) my plan has been shot before it started!

In fact the commando skill tree is looking pretty bare. You can see the ideas the Devs had for commando's with weapon mounts and grenade components but these have all been removed

I'll still probably take this profession as it has some cool weapons but it's a shame they are cutting downon the inter-profession capabilities (Armoursmith & Tailor, Creature Handler & Bio Engineer are good examples)

We do good business in DL17's and DH44's. Not as much as FWG5's, but we still run them every few days.

I am not disappointed in the loss of design at all. I know what the grind of manufacturing is like.

Unlike a single weapon, grenades are expended. They need to be easily produced, and with 2 components and a third construction phase, it's just not worth the effort to do in a General Crafting kit.

That means factories for mass production, even if the design stayed. How many want the bother of keeping a factory up and running to feed their grenade habit?

Well, anyone can. Just gt a schematic off a Weaponsmith. We have only lost design, not manufacturing.

Hmm.. I didn't think about that. Excellent suggestion.
