...and haven't sampled the new specials except a quick logon to see some shot take a minute to use. Is commando more viable now?

lets put it this way, I was thinking about dropping jedi to go back to commando,
and then I saw that it was a bunch of hype and that the devs still aren't showing us any love!!!
Altho i can't wait to see the new lava cannon in action!!!!
Betting it'd be killer with my suit w/ +25 Gen. Ranged Spd, +25 Gen. Ranged Acc, +25 to Heavy Spd, +25 to Heavy Accuracy

There's still work to be done by the dev's I agree, but at least we're getting somewhere. Right now a commando with a pistoleer template is a crowd control maniac, but the commando specials are crap.
Any way back to the main topic here,I think pistoleer is the way to go but that's just my personal preference. IMO smuggler has nothing serious to offer if you don't plan on making spice and slicing for a living, and going commando and not going master is a waste. As for all those extra skill points... I'd throw at least some intomedic skills, just in case, it is nice to be multi-role... and ahealing/damage dealing commando is a scary thing.

not really correct here as smuggler has a 40 second concussion and 25 panic shot which, when used with an area weapon, takes the entire mobs out of the battle for a minute and allows your group to pick through the mobs...in addition low blow is -40 to combat speed and restraining shot is a snare effect...apply these all to your targets and you win...
also if you choose MC/MS/4x44pistoleer you will have an area root and area intimidate.
