Whats the difference between ranged migitation 2 and none of it?

If i'm not mistaken, ranged damage mitigation limits the amount of damage you take from ranged attacks.

Yes, I think each level of mitigation (whether it be ranged or melee) reduces the MAX damage of that type by 20% (but same levels are not stackable... in other words, if you have 2 professions that give you Ranged Mitigation 1, then you don't get 40%off, just 20% for having Mitigation 1).

So in this instance, say you have ranged mitigation 2, and someone fires a pistol at you that has a damage range of 20-100. Your ranged mitigation (40%) would lower the max damage of the pistol by 40, so the damage range for his pistol would be 20-60 (40% off the MAX damage of the weapon). I'm not positive however, but this is what I've heard. Hope this helps.

I also am not 100% sure on this, but I thought I read that mitigation was applied to the damage range, not to the maximum damage.

So following the above example put forward by Tormstrooper:

The pistol does 20 - 100 points of damage, which means it has a damage range of 80 points (100 less 20 equals 80) and the 40% ranged damage mitigation is applied to these 80 points of damage range, reducing it by 32,giving a new damage range aftermitigation of 20 - 68 (100 max damage less the mitigated 32 points)

I'll repeat however that I am NOT 100% sure on this, but this is what I remember reading when the mitigation system was first announced.

I know, clear as mud

It doesnt take off total damage i.e. 20-100 at mitigation 2 = 20-60.

Rather it takes from the "range" of damage. i.e. 20-100 damage at mitigation 2 = 20-68.

The range of damage = max damage - minimum damage.
