Thread: A Squad Leading Commando . . :\

Not sure I agree...a Commando is typically a grunt to be ordered around...in my eyes, they are the folks that the "Leaders" send it to do all the heavy damage as an initial wave of attack...I see us fitting on a team, but not leading it...otherwise I see a Commando who prefers to work solo...
I'm not sure I'd agree, we could slice up the description and idea a few different ways.
/shrug.
I'm not even a novice commando yet, but I thought about trying to get squad leader as a follow on to commando. But I really don't think that the two should go together. The commando should spend his/her time softening the hard targets on a battlefield - turrets, pets, etc. while the squad leader needs to spend the time organizing the forces.
Acommandowould have to spend time analyzing and communicating rather than dealing out damage. And a squad leader should be someone who does not do the actual fighting rather they should have complementary skills that let them either take and/or avoid a few hits while they are concentrating on reading the opposing force's movements and deploying friendly units as necessary.
Not saying it cannot be done, I am just thinking that it may not be an optimal template on the battlefield.

Ive always thought of commandos as the elite that are both cunning and powerful.
Kinda like a cross between Boba Fett and a Storm trooper commander.
I still think the general idea of a Commando is someone that typical takes orders...doesn't give them...ever notice in war movies, that those leading usually let other's do all the fighting...they always have the power to order around the "specialists", "grunts", and "power-houses"...while they, typically smaller then the rest, use strategy to win the battle...
Squad Leaders are the Chess players...Commando's are just one of the pieces...Aspects of both can be combined, but I don't see someone being a Master of Both...
I am not a commando and i don't know if i will be a commando, with that said, you guys remember the movie Commando. It stared Ahhnold. He was a "One man Army" and did it all. I see a commando as a 1 man killing machine. A loner. If with a group he is sent off to do his "loner" thing and F@!# some **edit**e up while the main force comes in and sweeps up what is left in an orderly fashion. A commando doesn't really have time to give orders or, on the other side, rely on others for their support. Here is an sample from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary (mostly supports my ideas)
Main Entry: com·man·do
Pronunciation: k&-'man-(")dO
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -dos or -does Etymology: Afrikaans kommando, from Dutch commando command, from Spanish comando, from comandar to command, from Late Latin commandare
1 South Africa a : a military unit or command of the Boers b : a raiding expedition
2 a : a military unit trained and organized as shock troops especially for hit-and-run raids into enemy territory b : a member of such a unit
The leader of commandos doesn't need to be a complete commando, he/she just has to know what a commando can do and how it can best be used to fit the situation. As a leader I don't have to be the best at everything i just have to use the best people for everything.
