The "ALWAYS have a bot (any bot) grouped with you and parked in town for safety." quote relates to having a pet grouped with you but not necessarily fighting along side you -basically forthe group exp bonus.

it's late andI gotta go to bed, but wow it makes me want to go back up the commando tree(was 3-3-4-0, now 0-0-4-0)and I only got to part 3. very nice.

Well here I am, a veteran SWG player of almost a week....and I need some tips.


I am interested in the Commando route and have hit Master Marksman already and am now working on Unarmed IV which is my last remaining pre-requisite.


Once I get the XP to get Novice Commando, where do I go from here? There is talk of also training Pistolier skills and lots of otherswhich confuses me, as I want to be using Heavy Weapons dont I?


Also, what Certification is there for the Launcher Pistol as I cannot see it anywhere.

???? I dont understand the premise of this fact.... Cananyone explain it more perhaps?





If you are grouped you get an XP bonus. It appears to be in the 20-25% more range. So if you group with a droid you will be getting more XP. There is a downside however. If you harvest a kill you only get 60%. So you'll need to decide which you want more.


Great original post. One thing about the AP and AR. If the target is vulnerable to the damage type you will not get the AP bonus if there is one. This appears to be a bug. But it causes some interesting problems where using a weapon that the MOB can resist but the weapon has better AP will do more damage than using a weapon the target is vulnerable to.

Awesome guide, I just got the exp for flamethrower III, I already have HAR II, Hvy Wpns I, and FT I. Just a couple points. I noticed you're big on pistols, which also helps in defense from melee attacks. My path has taken me to TK instead of pistols, and I am also working on carbine'sfor the ranged knockdowns. Did you try this route and decided it doesn't work as well, or have you always found the pistols to work better for you? It seems to be 6 one way, half a dozen the other, but I haven't gotten all the pieces together yet, so not sure if putting carbineer/TKA with commando was better or worse than putting pistoleer with it.


Also, I never have seemed to have the problems with my flamethrower hitting. I always use it once I get close to PB, and it almost always seems to hit, and put that flame dot on (unless the critter has high heat resists, of course). But being as how it hits for around 3k, I usually seem to do real well on exp when in a group.


Rocket Launcher - cheap way to gain quick (and fairly safe - if you're at all lucky) exp. You can one shot con whites (I would claim yellow, but can't remember if it was yellow or white now) flail butchers without aggroeing their buddies. Its expensive credit wise (around 500cr per shot, depending on your weaponsmith), but cheap time wise. I seem to hit about 60% to 80% of the time from 64m, so you kind of are like a very violent sharpshooter, hehe. You can just sit there sniping em til you miss, of course then you are running for you life from all of them (a miss aggroes, or a hit that doesn't finish them off will too), but at least you start your run from extreme weapon range so you can get away most of the time.


I'm not a big fan of the launcher pistol, but I see the benefits of using pistoleer to gain spc attcks with it, if my TKA/carbineer plan doesn't do what I want I will prolly revert to pistoleer or pistoleer/smuggler.


Once again, thanks for the awesome guide (I had no idea that the health/action shots did bleed, they just never seemed to be very useful to me so I didn't use em, that will be changing soon however, hehe), it helps alot and was a much better read than all the whining that usually takes up these forums

Thanks for the rockin guide!


I was a MCH/MRM before the Holo aimed me in the Commando direction. With this guide and a little help from the combat xp I had built up...I went from having the requirements for commando to field tactics3 in one visit to the commando trainer.

2. Inadequate Armor Piercing. There is a question to the AP value on several weapons we have. All other acid weapons in game are AP1 except the HAR and glop grenade. Also, in light of 40 charges or less on the consumable weapons they all need to be AP3. Otherwise their time and cost to manufacture isn’t justified. STATUS: No Change

3. Launcher Pistol. In addition to the AP0 issue, there are no specials for this nor do we get any better with it. With the recent fixes to the rest of our weapons we feel a need for a better answer than get Master Pistoleer as well. As it stands a Master Commando duels a Master Pistoleer/Novice Commando and gets beaten with his own gun? STATUS: No change.

4. Crism Silicate Ore not removed from Proton Grenade spec. This gates not only making proton grenades but rocket launchers as well. STATUS: No Change

5. Grenade Revamp. There is a serious desire to see the entire grenade manufacturing and use revamped. It takes 5 factory runs to make one crate. This doesn’t seem bad till you consider it takes 27 minutes to make one five charge grenade. ONE! STATUS: No Change

6. Reduced number of charges on consumed Heavy Weapons. Prior to patch some had up to 200 charges on weapons. Now we are ranging 28 to 40. Considering the huge time involved to make them they are excessively costly. Can this be returned to 200 charges? STATUS: No Charge

7. Radius attack from consumed Heavy Weapons not functioning. Beam Cannons and rocket launchers with a radius don’t seem to be hitting anything in said radius. Not even a miss message. STATUS: No Change

8. Accuracies are wrong with weapons. Kneeling is more accurate than prone. As designed? STATUS: No Change.

9. Range modifiers for all weapons save Rocket Launcher make no sense. The range modifiers are supposed to indicate to the user where to ideally be when using the weapon. STATUS: No change. To give a few examples:

- Flame Thrower: +11@0m/-55@50m/0@64m. I can shoot it at 64 with no problem? Ideal should be 16m
-Heavy Acid Rifle: +16@0m/-13@35m/-116@64m At least this says to use point blank. But ideally I should be at 35m?
-Acid Stream Launcher:+1@0/+26@16m/-120@64m This reads like what the flamethrower and HaR should be, but not a launched consumable.
-Heavy Particle Beam Cannon: -120@0/+14@48m/-122@64m. This is exceptionally harsh. In 16m you go from +14 to -122.

10. Large Pause when initiating combat with Flamethrower & Har. If you are running you will stop to start fighting and then start running again. STATUS: No change

11. Two Different Accuracies for Acid Rifle. The +10 given at Novice Commando does not stack with those given by the Acid Rifle line. You end up having a +10 and a +70. STATUS: No change

12. Lack of use of unarmed line prerequisite. Not that we wish it removed, it’s just that absolutely nothing is done with it. STATUS: No change

13. NPC’s regarding Flamethrower as melee. If you start a fight vs a NPC with the Launcher Pistol, he will shoot back. If you switch to the Flamethrower the NPC will pull out his melee weapon and charge you. This also allows for excessive damage versus rifle wielders. STATUS: No change

14. Questions about the knockdown given to Bounty Hunter in Carbine 3. Reading the description of it implies it is a flamethrower attack. “Fire Knockdown: This ranged attack blasts the target with a quick rush of flame aimed at their upper body, which can cause them bowled over by the sheer force directed at them, causing them to be dizzy as well.” STATUS: No Change

15. Beam Rifle. No one has a cert for this. STATUS: No Change

16. Incorrect titles per column. These reflect beta idea of Commando which has since changed. Field Tactics: Artilleryman (?), Heavy Support Weapon: Expert Commando, Flamethrower Specialization: Grenadeer (?), Acid Rifle Specialization: Ordnance Manufacturer (?) STATUS: No Change

17. No Heavy Weapons Powerups exist. Short of the pistol powerups and grenade powerups, we have none. STATUS: No Change

18. Odd Certification for Acid Rifle. It says cert rifle acid beam. This doesn’t follow the format of any others. STATUS: No Change

19. Typo in the abilities description of Flame Cone2 in the abilities and commandos menu. It says to type /flameCone1. STATUS: No Change

20. Using Flame Cone type attack = no xp from additional targets killed. Only xp from targeted mob. STATUS: No Change


CONCLUSIONS

Commandos are a looking to finally be a rewarding class for all the work that’s involved in getting there.

I’m already seeing a definite increase in popularity due to the previous changes we have worked hard to secure in the game.

For all of my fellow Master Commandos, this is icing on the cake. We worked hard to make it here and when the patch hits it will be a whole new world.

For those new to Commando, or who just read this guide to see what it was like, I hope that these hints, tips and information will help make your experience a little easier, a little quicker and a little more fun.

Just a note for the Novice Commandos out there -- there are apparently at least two different types of Launcher Pistols. I acquired a Launcher Pistol as a mission reward (from the Rebel Themepark). When I used it after acquiring Novice Commando, I only received Pistol xp. I then bought a Launcher Pistol from a weaponsmith, and kills with it gave Heavy Weapons xp. There must be some kind of bug with the mission reward Launcher Pistol.

Just concerning the post about how commandos weren't PvP gods, I have dueled a number of people (upwards of about 50 people-I'm the infamous novice marksman with a CDEF) and I can tell you that commandos are VERY good at PvP. All you have to know is how to set a duel up in your favor. First, get close enough to them so that you can flamesingle2. Challenge them to a duel and immediately after that press the F key that corresponds your flamesingle2 macro (mine is F7). As soon as the person accepts, you will already have entered in the flamesingle2 command. Doing this (spamming flamesingle2 within range) works about 90% of the time. The other 10% is people with very high melee/ranged defense. Also, just a tip for those who want very high melee/ranged defense. Become Master Commando, Master Precision Striking (Teras Kasi), Master Rifle Abilities (Rifleman), and Master Fencing Stances and Grips (Fencer). The melee defense works out to be 200+. Very nice to have since nearly every creature in the game does melee damage and so do a lot of players (mainly those pesky Teras Kasi Masters). The ranged defense when doing this works out to be 160+. Having this high of a defense makes damaging a Master Commando incredibly difficult.

my first class was a commando and only got pts for commando 0040 then i read my holo and its says master dancer but wery nice whit mind buff to ur party and we kick ass.... then my next holo says master commando and i was alrady 0040 so nice exp party whit some nice irl friends (Human Shield) and next day i was master commando...



get flame and only use flame to max commando
