After reading this thread, I think that giving AP 1 to HAR is better than giving it a DoT...
If acid is suppose to melt metal (not going to start the idea on a metal gun with acid as bullet), then it should have the ability to pierce metal armor or any armor...

I was thinking the DoT because it would take time to eat away what it touched.
Most AP though is based on the fact that the power of the weapon or projectile strikes the armor with such force and/or is made of an element that can simply bypass the armor altogether, that the armor would be useless against it.
Acid isn't like a laser. It doesn't have the same instantaneous effect, and it lasts much longer upon hitting the target. The closest I can come to justifying the use of AP would be that the acid would make the armor useless or more vulnerable. Which leads me back to the DoT instead. Perhaps not a DoT, but a status affect that would last for some time making the target easier to hit or damage due to the weakened armor. Blindness is of course an easy option as well as the acid could get in your eyes.
Now an interesting idea that would never happen that came to mind as I reread this was as follows. The acid could melt someone's face which you'd have to get an Image Designer to fix. (And maybe a Doctor too.) Ok, ok, like I said, would never happen.

I would think that when the acid rifle's dot gets fixed it would do more damage (pvp) to the targets armor and weapons as opposed to his HAM. What do you all think? That would be logical wouldn't it? And if there is no armor to consume then it would SERIOUSLY hit his HAM hard. Ot is this just wishful thinking?

The HAR is suppose to have a dot. Acid Single. at least thats what im told and its just borked atm

I bought a cheap acid rifle just to see the graphic effects of it. I was very disappointed. I was expecting a nice green beam to shoot out of it, instead only thing I got was something that sounded like a pop gun.

Im a new commando (1/0/1/0) and im having a helluva lot of fun with my fire dot from my flamer.
I just wondered if the acid rifle has a similiar DOT? like a posion etc

The acid rifle has no DoT, no ap, less damage than the flamer and is a complete waste of time. Flamer is the only real viable commando weapon.
Rockets are great fun and can hit hard but until master they miss... a lot.. Same with most of the other heavy weapons really.

hehe just hold out with commando till after the CU and hope we either get it junked completely or at least get some form of AP
