Thread: yay grenades are now pointless
Changing grenades to give Heavy Weapons experience (+ 10% Combat experience) would have made them fall right in line with every other weapon in the game as far as experience earning. Commandos would have still had one branch that is purely Combat experience, just like every other combat profession, and would have advanced through their profession at the same exact rate as every other combat profession. If they were looking to 'balance' grenades against using other weapons, I'm unsure how much more 'balanced' you can get in this situation. Am I missing some key element as to why this would have been a bad idea?
Don't get me wrong, I love Commando, and I cringe every time someone brings up a 'nade grinding question on this forum. But the fact still stands that SOE just took a bit more enjoyability out of the game for some players, and that is ultimately bad for ALL players. It's a case of applying a tourniquet to the neck to stop a cut on the scalp from bleeding, and shows absolutely no forsight or long-term planning.
As it stands now, someone looking to advance through the FS quests now progresses that much slower, regardless of what weapon they choose to use. Ifeel thatthis was obviously just an excuse to make the FS grind that much slower for everyone, and they used the popular enemy of grenade grinders as a reason.
Maybe I'm rambling, and just haven't had enough coffee yet... ![]()
they succeeded in killing 2 birds with one stone i believe. closed an exploit and slowed the journey to jedi.
i dont see slowing the journey to jedi as a bad thing.

of course they made the grind take that mutch longer, but if they took combat XP away from grenades they would have penalized commando because of an exploit (or bad game design, call it whatever your comfortable with) used by FS grinders.

Nor do I... I wish it would have been kept slow and mysterious, so that it would have actually been an achievement to get it, and the Jedi would have been a very rare sight to see.
But on a macro scale for the overallhealth of the game, it's going to cause more people to quit the game. The general public views it as having something 'taken away' from them that they once had. That's much worse than never having it at all, typically.
While one could argue that the only people we're losing are the 1337 d00ds that are more of a nuisance than anything, it still affects the overall number of players and subscriptions, which will dictate how much more work and effort SOE puts into this game.
I just don't want to see our numbers dwindle to the point where SOE decides this game is more of a money pit than a moneymaker that should be further invested in.

What's worse that some are abusing the Commando profession to become Jedi, where they can make an alt. Then they forget about both professions.
