Commando Archive
Thread: Ummm guys. I don't mean to complain but I'm getting tired of getting one shotted by a flamethrower.
Not to mention we need to be at virtually melee range to do that kind of dmg where you can just dizzy/knockdown/spam shoot anything else and we're screwed.
Dawg you can solo anyone and anything. I am not saying anything but I know we are gonna get nerfed. We simply rule other classes in pvp and pve. How many other classes can solo an at-st? None, only us.
Thats why I am switching over to commando, I am tired of being bottom of the line class (TKA) finally time to step up to the plate and rule pvp.
I have no problem if someone puts a flamethrower, burning who knows what, in someones face, pulling thetrigger, and taking them down in one or two hits.
I understand that you should keep your distance from this guy and fight smart. But the real problem is PvP.
I watched a Commando who had cloned in Theed, run up to a group of Imperials and lite them up. Screams were heard, the smell was terrible, beings started to drop like flies. The Commando was dropped before he could get a second shot. Then cloned, ran out as covert, and flamed the one who had killed him moments before(Hitting a few others nearby). No one was able to stop him from a distace, as he was always switching to covert with each respawn. Unstoppable carnage ensued. Repeat.
I guess my biggest pet peeve is when people argue and don't compensate for what it takes to achieve a profession. It is not easy getting to unarmed 4, then getting the support ranged combat xp, and then further earning 40k to be a novice commando, and from what I hear you really can't stop there like being a novice pisoleer. So you go through getting the enormous amounts of heavy weapons xp or further combat xp (I cringe when I ever require that!) to just be effective. Simply to be effective.
Now a novice pistoleer is already halfway there. They can enjoy whatever previous weapons they have gain the certs for as well as the skill mods. And a commando takes almost as many skill points as a BH. A lot of people complain about how a BH is overpowered. Well, it was a profession designed to be expert at combat. So know that it takes the mastery of two professions to be a BH. It takes work. You should feel unique and special. You should'nt feel balanced with a chef. But know that no matter what he'll cook circles around you, and a mean lasagna!
First off, I see my position having nothing to do with what I believe should be the state of a completely different class. I'm a community relations volunteer and nothing else. My own ideas come second to that of the community REGARDING THAT PROFESSION.
However, here we ARE doing a lot of damage. However, it is slow, often inaccurate, and is either completely reliant on specials or has none at all. From what I've seen, we're one of the most balanced classes out there when you consider the amount of XP we have to make. Unlike Imperials, we actually deserve this much damage. For example, I was killed today by a person with two faction pets. I killed both of the faction pets and he got me because I couldn't get close enough to use my specials.
Compare this to an AT-ST that took out 8 men today while the owner did nothing except death blow. It wasn't a pretty sight, and I seriously doubt he did anything special to earn that AT-ST as every Imp seems to have one.
TD,
I was just in the BH forums reading about this LLC.
Here is what the BH's said:
* You need to be within 20m
* You will do 4k to 7k damage (I assume PvE)
* This means 1k to almost 2k damage in PvP (ie 1 shot kills)
Now to use the FT specials I had to be within 16 or 17m to use Flame Single 1 (or 2) and I never got over 1k damage on a player so far in PvP. Mainly because you need to be in the right situation to whip that baby out. Once I used the special against a group of rebs and sure I nailed one guy (not insta kill) but guess what, I was the next dead guy on the battlefield due to the delays and other penalties.
Oh, as for how Imps worked so "hard". Some, not all mind you - don't want to insult those who worked for them -
SOME went to the Imperial Oasis's for the destroy missions that were so close you could literally almost shoot it from the mission terminal.
Reenactment of an episode I had tonight:
4 swoopers spawn and attack me, all are directly in front of me, grouped together 4m away.
FlameCone I: miss (the only one that was targetted was the one that I had targetted)
Me run run run run run hit heal macro so it will go after the 15s. Heal macro goes, I am incap'd. I am slain.
WIth flame spec 2 I miss 50-65% of the time. I average 600-800 damage PvE.
PvP as it is now is broken. The devs are trying to balance PvE and PvP on the same scale and it's a very difficult path to travel. Right now this is like UO back in the day. If a heavy weapon should do equal damage as a pistol in PvP, what's the sense in wasting all those extra skill points for a weapon that has horrid accuracy and 5 times the delay on specials? PvP needs a LOT of work. Maybe a max damage cap should be instated for PvP (pets would not have a cap on them, just people.) I don't see any other way to "balance" all the weapons together.
Heavy weapons should do considerably more damage than a pistol. They should also be slower and less accurate than a pistol. But how do you balance a pistol vs a heavy weapon, when some people run around with 600 in a stat? I stopped PvPing in UO when Runic weapons came out. Instead of skill vs skill it became bankroll vs bankroll. "I can't fight you because my valorite double axe is in the bank." And here I was with a baby bard with GM music,74 entice, 40 provoke, 82 peace, 60 hiding, 30 tracking, and 86 detect hidden, and a Lady Red with a valorite short spear took 5 minutes to kill me when I was on foot and she was on a llama. I kept running around in a circle peacing and avoiding her. She kills me and says "pwned? ya, I think so" I should've added Taste ID to that temp for the l33+ pvp bonuses I guess.
Point being BH's and Commandos should be the only class with a chance for a one-hit kill in Pvp if any are. Pistols can do equal damage as the current heavy weapons can, and are a heap of a lot faster and more accurate. Yes I think changes need to be made (such as reducing the range to 48m again) but the elite combat classes get a slue of specials that have various state change mods and damage enhancers, that they can spam off faster than the two types of specials we have.
Too many people think PvP in SWG should be line up and go at it. The people who adapt and strategize will come out above the cut in the end. In every MMO I've been in it's the same. Start out with big gun vs big gun. Eventually it got into strategy. In Earth and Beyond I knew JE's who could easily take out PW's in PvP, because they were smart about how they did it.
Once again, this post is based purely on the fact that this person can't PvP. I mean if you're stupid enough to stand within the effective distance of our Flamethrowers, then you obviously deserve to be one shotted. But then again, why am I wasting my finger muscles typing this? This person has obviously called for Nerf's in the Combat Medic forum screaming that their poisons are too strong, or the Creature handlers because their pets were too powerful, or the chef's because their spatula's were too strong...
*sigh* grow a brain and learn to PvP...

BTW let's see what this person'sstatements will be when the Dev's bump his class to Demi god status and people start calling for a nerf. Bloody hypocrite's
