See thats the only prob with having a commander/general guy representing us...

In effect, they picked him more because Cody was part of the elite, of the elite, of the ARC troopers. That's pretty dang elite.

But the point is, they didn't pick Cody because he commanded troopers (otherwise he would have been with officer right?), they picked him because he was a commando. So we got him because of his abilities in a firefight; but I must say...if they picked him because of his ARC-trooper status then commando is heading in the direction we wanted it to go.

Commander Cody is the Clone you always see in Episode 2 & 3 with his helmet off. He's the one who gives an iteam to Obi-won and tries to execute Order #66 and gets killed for it I believe. He only briefly has a couple of appearances, and hardly an "iconic" hero. They only include him because of the popularity of the prof., but Commandos are seen in diffeent roles in both factions throughout the films. Perhaps the best example of SWG Commando actually comes from a Jedi Padawan, Luke Skywalker when he shoots up to an AT-AT and singlhandly brings it down with a thermal detonator when their air power can't scratch 'em. but, no, they want us all to be good little clones. How "iconic" is that?

I think it's more of an EU, than movie definition at this point.

There were no directly named commandos in any of the movies (Han Solo was smuggler first...Luke was Jedi first, etc), save for two characters: The Clone Commanders (like Cody) & Crix Madine.

Commander Cody had a more of a role than the other commanders, so he would've been a natural choice over his clone brothers. Crix madine was never shown in a combat enviroment, but was still a named character. In the movies, neither seem like commandos, but in the EU both were commandos turned generals. Cody was an elite ARC trooper, and Crix Madine trained the Storm Commandos before defecting...and also participated in commando-related "stuff" in the alliance as well. So really, if they had to pick an "iconic" character from the movies, ideally it would have to be one of these two guys.

Now, I'd have preferred if they picked an EU-only or SW-only game character, as we have quite a few of those guys who were commandos. Heck, I'd have loved it if they chose one of the Republic Commandos (who imo, were the epitome of a commando and were even more independent than the ARC troopers). But they didn't see any reference in the movies. Plus, Cody was on a battlefield enviroment and some of his "commando" abilities you could say were in the movies. Most likely that was the justification over a Crix Madine who, movie-wise, would have fit more of an Officer representation than that of Leia

Still, Im happy with the EU reference that we're to be more like the ARC troopers (REAL commandos and not some wimpy support profession), although the icon could have been better...the thought behind the direction is nevertheless positive (at least imo).

Not sure about that...taken from SW.com databank from the clone commanders:

"Unit 2224 (cody) was part of an advanced training program of clone commanders led by the ARC trooper identified as Alpha."

"Bly was one of the first generation of clone commanders to be trained by the ARC trooper Alpha. The ARC troopers were a specially bred type of clone, more independent and with less docility tampering than the standard trooper of the line. Alpha's training program emphasized independence and outside-the-manual thinking."

"One of the first 100 graduates from a clone commander training program administered by the elite ARC trooper Alpha. (Neyo)"

"Bacara was one of the first generation of clone commanders to benefit from a new training program instituted by Alpha, an ARC trooper veteran. Alpha translated his natural independence and lack of genetically engineered docility tampering into a regimen that emphasized individuality and creativity"

ARC Troopers:

"The ultimate in the clone trooper ranks were the Advanced Recon Commandos, or ARC troopers, elite infantry hand-trained by Jango Fett."

So apparently, Jango Fett trained Alpha who in turn trained the rest of the ARC troopers as Jango himself wasn't an ARC trooper nor in the republic military.

The "Alpha" that is mentioned is Jango Fett. He trained a select few clone troopers personally before his little meeting with Mace. Those were the ARC troopers. Jango was a Mandalorian commando before his bounty hunting days. Man, it's sad that I know this...

I personally think there shuld be no pictures to represent the profession. There for no one gets upset over who there looking at, we are not based after them and are able to make ourselves more unique. personally want to be me, modeled after me and not Codey or Leia or Lando...

As for who I think would of made the best pic for the commando, I would say one of the commandos from Republic Commando.

The Force is my ally, and a powerful ally it is...
