ARC commando's didn't charge in gun's ablaizing. They went in alone, and that's a really easy way to get yourself killed. ARC stands for Advanced RECON Commando. they were snoop and poopers.

Republic Commando's were the ones that charged in guns blaizing, were used as shock troopers, and as special forces type raids.

Star Wars Republic Commando: Hard Contact is a prime example of this.

Republic Commando's were organized in 4 unit squads, similer to Marine Corps Fire teams.

ARC troopers ocaisonaly commanded Republic Commando Companies, but this was not there primary mission, it was sometimes done becuase ARC trooperswere bred for slightly more individualism.

I'm still waiting on my DC-17

Loved that book.

That's what I want to see us become, since they're giving rangers the mines and crap. I agree with giving them stealth, but explosives of any sort should stay with us. Since that's been shot to hell, I would love to see us be more like the Republic Commandos; assault carbine, heavy armor, specialized weapons like the anti-armor attachment the DC-17 had...

But this is SOE; they'll give the rest of our explosives awayto other professions, delete the rocket launcher, move the flamethrower to the chef profession, give us a cap gun, and then beef up the Jedi while they're at it.

Well, having been a Pre-CU Commando, and I stuck with it for the first month or so post-CU, I have had some ideas.

I believe that Commando as a long range/short range, demolition, anti armor profession would be good.

Weapons like the Rocket Launcher and the Particle Beam should be long range (75-85M) and be anti armor. Change base turrets to only be damaged by these class weapons and now we have a role that makes sense in base busting.

Close range support with the flame thrower and acid weapons (25-30M) and with that being an AoE attack/weapon allowing the commando to do devastating damage to close range mobs.

Add Melee attacks that are not weapon dependent or so damaging to them. I.E. the Flamethrower/Acid Rifle has Improved firearm strike that does more damage to the target, but less damage to the weapon.

This would give Commandos a dual role of providing close support for team members as well as being a long range and emplacement buster.

Although any change that allowed commando to be even as good as it was Pre-Cu and I would be back in a heartbeat.

I like the idea of weapons built into the armor....

but remember not all commandos wear armor. Perhaps one type can be armor another can be tailor made but serving the same function.

If SOE wants rangers to be the 'light & sneaky' commando (which is absolute bullcrap since ranger+ranged proff=high damage anyway) then we should be the 'heavy' commando. Give us back our consumable rocket launcher and smack it with REALLY high damage... like in the old days where 1 rocket hit would bring you down to 1/3rd of your life. (aka should do 2000 damage in pvp) and even the biggest non-boss (boss=precu ns elders) to half life with 1 hit.

But on a long refire timer of course. 20 seconds or so.

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

About ARC Troopers:

I will admit I'm not the most informed about ARC Troopers as I have not read any of the comics or stories about them. All I have seen of them is their part in the Clone Wars cartoons. As I recall from the cartoons at least, they did not go in alone, but as a group of 20 or so. I remembered them jumping over a wall and shooting madly killing droids left and right, or blasting away at general grievous with gatling guns, grenades, and tons of blaster fire. Not very sneaky if you ask me. Perhaps the comics are different, but the ARC troopers I was referring to did go in guns ablazing. Either way, there is proof of people in the star wars galaxy that do combat in this manner.

I agree with Tac. Since Rangers seems to be light and stealthy, Commando should be made heavy.... heavy armor and big damaging guns.

Yeah, with the way SOE is taking ranger, during a pvp engagement it should be...

"There's a ranger; keep a close eye on him, and don't let him out of your sight."

and

"Oh $h!t, there's a commando; take cover!"

Since I discovered Commando in 2003, I've always looked at us as a Storm Commando/Spec force/Mandalorian Mercenary(supercommando) type of guy. Not the regular soldier of the mill, but one used for infiltration, demolition and high risk operations.

Not the best to stand his ground, but the best to get the job done and get out.

Now that seem to be the new "rangers", leaving commando to become some "heavy weapons trooper", or the MG man in the regular infantry squad..

I'm still dreaming of being a storm commando, but for the first time since 2003, I believe that I wont become that by being a commando. Ranger seem to become the way to become a commando in SW terms.

I love your idea of the commando, a perfectbrawler/ranged weapon hybrid - as it should be.

Commando's, as well as a few other professions (which I wont get into on the commando thread), should be able to wield duel weapons. Commandos should be able to either wield a blaster/heavy weapon combo or a melee/heavy weapon combo, something along those lines.

They should be able to take off at full speed towards the target and shoot them with a flame thrower and then close in for the kill with a short melee weapon or finish them off with a blaster pistol.

just some ideas....

.... defences also need boosted as well as our damage potential. Perhaps instead of making our damage come just from the heavy weapon itself, the damage comes from using such combos as the melee/weapon combo - a weapon in one hand and a short sword or other melee weapon in the other, spefically designed for commandos only.

Instead of only going up the Unarmed branch of Brawler, commandos might need to go up the One-handed branch as well. Commandos would be affective in using unarmed skills and one handed as well as the melee/weapon combo. The skills that should be added should be more geared towards these, and maybe just a few (one or two) skills that are high damage heavy weapon only skills. Most of the skills could come form professions such as bounty hunter, marksmen or any of the other marksmen elite professions and vice versa someone could choose to go the commando/brawler route as well in choosing to go a brawler elite profession.

Perhaps a skill could be added to to commandos as well something like Berzerker mode or somthing to put Commandos into an all out rage when using their melee/weapon combo.

Just some more ideas to build on... I really like the dual wepaon wielding ideas that were introduced in this thread... this has some real potention ... also pistolers .... DUAL PISTOLS.... S
