Thread: Automatic Weapons

Automatic weapons are technically carbines of carbineer...what you guys are describing pretty much are gattling guns - what the big boys play with
Lol, sorry, but you are incorrect sir. From a military standpoint (Hence Commando) automatic weapons are HEAVY, in the 25 to 150 pound range. The usualy have a bipod or a mount for a tripod, and are almost always belt fed. They are fairly inaccurate, and are normaly fired either from the prone or semi-reclining position, or from the turret of a vehicle. A carbine will usualy weigh somewhere in the 7 to 9 pound range.
As for gattling guns: Gatling guns are multi-barreled weapons (usualy 6 barrels) that rotate as the gun is fired. The original Gatlings were hand cranked, gravity fed weapons, and were usedduring the American Civil War and in the following years. During the early 20th Century, someone had the bright idea to remove the hand crank, and attach an electric motor.
Flash forward to today's Gatlings: Currently, there are 3 types ofGattling style weapons in existance (to my knowledge). There is the Mini-gun, a mean little **edit** that is made by General Electric,is chambered for the 7.62mm Nato round (thats a .308 for you non-military types) and fires at ratesup to 6000 rounds per minute. The nextGatling up isthe M61A1 AKA the 'Vulcan Cannon'(again manufactured by General Electric), chambered for the20mm round,is mounted in fighter aircraft, and also is mounted on naval ships and know as the phalanx. The rate of fire for this weapon is 6600 rounds per minute. Finaly, we move on to the final Gatling style weapon: The GAU-8 AVENGER. The GAU-8features 7 barrels,is chambered for the 30mm round, and fires 3900 rounds per minute. The weapon is mounted on the A-10, and is quite effective in a tank killer role. The bullets fired from this weapon are made from DepletedUranium.

An automatic weapon would need stats like:
100-400 @ .8 unsliced
SAC like 70 cap.
1 accuracy, no scope.
This would be kind of like an auto gun. Super speed, low damage, so it piles up. Too much more then this would be overpowering.

i agree , the speed would be "uber" enought to out damage alot

Lest anyone get the wrong idea, the rounds are not actually made from depleted uranium, they are a jacketed round with a depleted uranium core. The cited ratemay beaccurate in the current sense, though in the history of the weapon, the rate of fire has been higher (much higher) and also at one point selectable by the pilot via anin cockpit toggle switch. The rate of fire has been reduced at leasttwice in the history of the A-10, after tests and pilot feedback have confirmed that blown to pieces is blown to pieces, and firing more rounds into a smoking heap of scrap metal just wastes the potential to hit more targets.
I would personally love to see a mini gun style blaster, with bolts flying in an arc similar to the firing arc of the PFT, but with extended range out to 40m (alot like the range of the current FT actually) , level 54 damage, say 500ish-1200ish damage range and player craftable.A change of weapon looks useful at master commando would be really nice.
Thats the current rate of fire for the A-10, and it is not capable of sustained fire while employed on said aircraft due to the recoil of the weapon actually being strong enough to stall out the aircraft.

A couple of notes,
There are 2 classes of mini guns, one being 5.56 (as seen in predator) and the 7.62. If I'm not mistaken the naming is the 5.56 version being called the mini and the 7.62 being the vulcan.
There is a .50 cal version, 3 barrel and was designed for use on the blackhawks.
GE dropped the weapons business several years ago and the entire line is made by Lockheed-Martin now.
As an aside, the version of Mini (M134) used in the movie requires a car battery to power it. For the movie they put the battery into a backpack with a few hundred rounds of blanks at a time and filmed it that way. Actually using the thing would be a stone cold nightmare for anyone.
Personally, I like the idea of an E-web or a Star Wars type of heavy weapon. While multi barrel weapons are popular, they are far too Doom/Quake.
Next thing people will start asking for is a shotgun.

i think a squad level automatic weapon (ike the M249 SAW) would be a nice commando touch. either that or a crewed weapon like the eweb, but would require multiple personel to fire on an enemy.
Check out this idea from the old days,
