Only problem with that thinking though, it doesn't do us any good if we can't reach our target to deliver that powerful blow or even last long enough to get a few shots off. That was the mistake they did with our profession the past year and a half...
We won't be getting tanker-like defenses mind you, but the ratio of offensive-defensive abilities will be far more balanced Post-CU...

No matter when the developers transform us into, it CAN'T be worse than it is now, so I welcome all changes with open arms. The CU will either make or break this product. I've mastered commando about 15 times on the same character....after reading the most recent CU doc...I no longer have the urge to re-spec all the time.
I'm just waiting until they give us what we need: A working profession. I want to be a commando like most players want to be a Jedi.....
This is exactly why I love this community...we usually only think of how we can improve, how we can build up rather than come crashing down. As garvin once said, any change that is coming in the CU is great for us...as we've already hit the bottom. (ok im paraphrasing
)
I think thats a true success for a community...and I regard you guys as more of an extended family rather than a bunch of players gathering abouts in some virtual forum.

Well, I don't care much about defenses. I hope commandos get no increased defenses at all. We are suppose to be damage dealers. I think with the right fixes we could be just that.
The only way to justify our high damage is by having crap defense. However, with the ability to master more than one profession we will have versatility to fall back on.
I just wanna hunt some npc bounties and light them on fire. =)

Oh! My favorite combo, commando/SL, will be possible too then! Very cool! Oh wait...24 skill pts to unlock the second character slot. Never mind. :-(

I hope all other ranged professions can think this way. BHs should be happy, Commando's should be happy, Carbineers should be happy. Heck, I bet even Squad Leaders will be happy. I tend to see far more negative posts then positive posts. Very few forums seem to keep a positive attitude these days. I don't think anything bad will come from the CU, of course there are always naysayers.

After Master Commando / Master Squad Leader you have 37 free points. I think you have enough for your 24 FS boxes.

In the current/old system, Commando/BH templates are pretty fun (but hurt).
In the newer system, I believe it could work rather well provided we get more CR information.
A Master Commando / Master Bounty Hunter template feels like very "Mandalorian-esque" to me.

OMG! Hope not! With our 2300(PVP) dmg S2 shot and the fire DOT against a single Health bar....it will be nice to see who wins in the PVP battles to come.
[edit]: As for taking down jedi...our ParticleBeam cannons & rocket launchers work 'great' against them. Don't think they can saber block our disp. weapons. I tried a PBCannon on a jedi and - when I got a hit - it took more than 1/3 of his health bar down. *For the BH wanabe's - have a few bh/commando's get the same bounty...get at the ideal range..fire the PBcannons & BOOM! Execution commando style.

Always the first question is about money isn't it? Im only a bank to my immediate family - with my extended family, the bank's closed.
Also...if they break the FT...damn, the devs better start packing.

Anyone know? I'm hoping they will be due to the reduction of SP required. These are my two favorite professions and it would be AMAZING to have them in one template.
well..umm...yeah...
basic math, when it comes down to it.
