while I don't have access to the information other do, I don't think people will be taking the "FT line" like they would now if it wheren't so dang expensive.
I know SOE wants to promote dabbling, but for some reason I can't shake the feeling that they want to ensure there is a clear and obvious advantage to mastering a certain proffession.

There are many ways to prevet dabbling in Commando, and one of the most likely IMO is to change up our skill trees. As it stands ever tree does something unique in commando.. which is pretty much asking for dabblers (although for some *ODD* reason, no one wants to dabble anything but the FT.. HHHMM). I could be way way off in left field here, but I think SOE will be changing the commando trees to be more fluid and look more like the other professions. I think this will happen by retooling the Heavy weapons trees into a more generic modifiers and generalizing our specials. Of course this is all based on what I would do if I was on the DEV tream, and only marginally on what has been released as what changes are planned for out profession (like the promise that heavy weapon CA/AAs will work again).

Well...In our past discussions, even before the CU came up, a popular solution was either movingmost of thespeed and accuracy mods for the FTout of the FT tree and spreading them around amongst our other 3 trees (or at least 1 other tree)...That way, the more trees you take, the better you'd be...the other solution was to decrease the mods via the FT tree, and add those extra mods to the Master Commando box (so when you hit Master Commando, you'd get a big boost over dabblers). A Third option was to divide the FT mods in half and put 1 half in Novice, and the other half in Master...the FT tree would only give you specials...

I can't say what route is being taken via the CU (due to the NDA), but I have hinted that a Master Commando will be better with ALL of our weapons over a Commando dabbler...That is an issue that is being addressed via our Commando changes.

Yeah, certifications are a concern for me as to what is going to go where etc. With Commando losing the master marksman prereq, it now makes me wonder how hard it is going to be to fill the role of a profesional soldier able to utilize just about any ranged weapon in the game. Even if we sucked with pistols, carbs, or rifles without the corresponding elite class, it was nice to be able to switch to a carb, rifle, or pistol if you wanted to on low end content and still be viable fighting.

Maybe certifications are going to go more along the role of the prof. This seems more restricted to what you can do vs the opinion that the CU may make people able to be more flexible in their templates. I take it as more variations, but less well roundedness.

No access to the CU info, but going off what the prof is now and making each one take a certain role following more traditional MMORPG's... Commando and Rifleman would seem to be slow attacks but heavy firepower... Swordsman probably would end up the melee counterpart as it is now in heavy damage. Looking at Fencer, maybe the bladeweaver and death of a thousand cuts role through bleeding. Pistoleer might could be taken the same way, but maybe actually making disarming shot work and other stalling manuevers which could compliment the Smuggler pistol role as well. TK could end up as the pimary tanks with Carbineers working kd's and posture downs (their role now) to control advancement... again with Pikeman being the counterpart in melee. CM's become more of an offensive cleric style role still focusing on area healing in addition to their combat class. I would expect seeing a BH be a little better defensively, maybe even including some kind of toughness if the defense wasn't granted to take away some of the damage they might take. CH's and SL's I would have no clue on a distinct role, but hopefully both would have some nice unique additions.

Just making educated guesses from reading posts in various forums and looking at EQ2 and the way some of it's profs accent one another in a group, I wouldn't be suprised if some roles end up similar to what I just thought about outloud (sorry for the ramble)... but I hope there is more of a role for a Commando to be more of a universal fighter than just a heavy weapons fighter without dabbling. I kinda like having the basic certs (even though I do realize there will be lots of changes with this), required for a special forces style soldier. Just my opinions, but does anyone else feel they would be giving up a lot and becoming a pure demolitionist without other weapons certs?

I'm getting the feeling that Commando will be a supplement to other Professions and not a Profession it's self. Like previously said, Will a "250 point Commando" really be a 250 point Fencer with Heavy Weapons Abilities. Will are Profession end up with everyone Dabbleing in it, like the FS grenade grinder, for the solo purpose of using the Heavy Weapons version of there weapon, say Pistoleer?

Dabblers are my greatest fear with this.

Master commandos are a rare breed already, and I fear that lowering the pre-reqs may make us rarer. Even if the number of masters does not dwindle, we can definitely expect the number of dabblers to skyrocket. I anticipate thatroughly 5 out of every 10 people in game will take advantage of the lowered pre-reqs just to pick up the flamethrower line and/or the grenade line.

I think what we are seeing may very well be the beginning of the end for the commando profession.

NEVER!

heh, I am thinking about Master commando/rifle BH 3/0/0/0, then Commando BH and Commando Smugler With 3 accounts, I am living it up! Now I just need more krayted flamethrowers......

Oh, your post reminds me about something, Cpl.

Is your "give a damn" really busted, or just nerfed?
