Thread: if you were a commando before the big patch

Nice words Garvin, I couldn't have said it better. Im not seeing as many Commandos as I was seeing about a week ago though. Hehe, I bet they couldnt stand missing 80% of the time as a novice. Its been a tough road, but finally it was well worth the wait even though I had to chuck 150k in old useless equipment hehe.

How do you know when two commanos fight? Two pillars of smoke rising from the nearest body of water.
I'm not seeing as many Novice Commandos... but I'm seeing a ton of grenadeers or folks brandishing flamers and "Expert Commandos." Think instead of walking around with no title and an FWG5 equiped I'm going to pull out the Tusken and show off my novice marksman title. Do I teach? Depends on my mood and what I'm doing, chances are not unless I know you- prepatch or not. Not because I'm elitest, well not entirely, but more of a 'I'm so kewl, I'm uber, I pwned j00" hater that I really don't want to be part of spreading that disease. Call it my way of adding some chlorine to the gene pool.
Why should someone who by choice decided to be a machoist, pre-love patch, be justified to look down on others picking up the proffession after that fixes? I find that kinda childish and almost as if your demanding someone kinda badge of sacrifice because you picked your proffession when it was badly, horrible, broken.
Theres even some people who refuse to train new commandos, simply calling em bandwaggoners or whatever... the thought ever cross you they might just be new players? Perhaps, and I bet, they were told not to go commando while it was bugged? I know I was adviced against it when talking about it with a commando before the fixes.. and after witnessing him getting beat up by a Nuna.. Im kinda happy I didnt.
Its really none of your buisness what someone spends their skillpoints in, if the choose to go master or just spend it all on one skilltree in a proffession. Its really nothing more than a sign that commando is still unbalanced and broken when half the commandos only pick Flamethrower IV. When fixed properly, if the people you look down upon still stick around, you gonna keep living with your superiority complex?
Respect is something that is earned. Just because someone is high level doesnt mean they deserve any respect. Anyone that was commando before the patch killed lots of weak around town enemies or slow enemies.. This is not something I will knock someone for since I did it as well but hardly something that deserves respect.

There is something very wrong with this post...I am a novice Commando (1|0|3|0) and I'm a annoyed by elitist Commandos...but just like use new commandos aren't all bandwagoneers or dabbles...not all Pre-Patch Commandos are Elitists...don't slam all of them...Anyone...and I mean ANYONE who reaches Master deserves respect...what they do when they reach Master is their own choice...they can say they won't teach anyone and we can disagree and tell them why that sucks...or why they are wrong...but they still deserve respect...When any Master in any profession trains me (haven't been trained by any Commandos) I tip them higher then I tip non-masters...it's a respect thing for me...If they want to spout off about "In the old days..." like grizzled old warriors then I will sit and listen until grandpa nods off and I can sneak way (lol...joke you old timers)...
Ivoni may have some slightly elitist attitudes, but Ivoni has earned them...and I respect that...plus he Commando Guide that Ivoni created has helped me more then words can say...It convinced me to focus on the FT tree first...told me where I could find some local trainers...gave great advice on stat migration and so on...I've planned my strategy to obtaining Master around much of that guide...If Ivoni and the rest of the Master's out there want to brag about being pre-patch and tell us how hard it was for them...then so be it...they earned the right...
Disagree with them...tell them they need to change their attitudes...ok...but don't bad mouth their character...they earned our respect as our fore-runners...they paved the way...
Gentlemen
Commandos I commend you for sticking with a bugged profession through the hard times. You should now rejoice the fact that it is now one of the enjoyable and in demand professions on the game. I myself was going to go commando earlier in the game but I was warned by many that it is was filled with bugs and frustrating. So I went with smuggler for a while and changed to Commando when I had found out that the profession improved. So yes I guess I jumped on the bandwagon but I have always wanted to do commando I was just told that it was not fun. There was already enough bugs in the game when it first came out and I did not want to have to deal with a whole profession of it. So though I am a so called bandwagoner I have been a commando at heart the whole time.

Osiris, you sound exactly like the type of person that has spent each and every moment since launch grinding combat xp. Let me guess, at launch you realized that having a pet was a necessity, so you spent the first month getting all kinds CH experience! Oh boy, killing all those chubas and nunas was fun wasn't it? Fortunately, the class was nerfed before you were able to become badass, and you were left thinking what will make me "UBER DOOD!" Oh, Pistoleer, you probably decided that if you could grind your pay up the tree all would be fine. Like all the other ants, you marched accross the plains yet again for a month or so grinding xp so that oneday you'd have the best skills for PVP. Oh, alas it was not to be, yet another nerf hammer comes down hard on you. I too have had my fair share of setbacks, and losses, but I stuck it out. Now, you come on here with an attitude, have to start grinding again right? If you're method of not picking up classes that are broken is so revolutionary, whycan Ispend hours killing guys in PVP today?

Agree wholeheartedly. Went smuggler/pistoleer/CH and waited. I could have gone BH with my skills far easier than waiting for Commando.
Those that sunk the time into a broken profession: I salute you. However, you shouldn't have been surprised that 3 to 4 times your number were waiting in the wings with tons of combat xp stored up when they finaly fixed the problems.
PvP is gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous.
Yeah...that's pretty **edit** gay.
heh....original poster said "maybe us smart people new the proffession was bugged so they worked on the areas that would compliment commando when it was fixed"
First of all, many of the commandos that stayed on (lvled class AND another class, tka or pistoleer to compliment), at least the ones i know, got annoyed mainly because now all of a sudden our class gets flooded and nerf posts become rampent on the boards
out of 6 friends, 3 of who were BH's, 2 were former commandos, i was the only commando left - now all cept 1 former commando (who's now nearly a master carbineer) have gotten at least novice commando for LP or flamer.
To be honest, i dont care about bandwagon jumpers since some dropped it since it didnt have the godly firepower they first though it had, and now everythings starting to balance out
and secondly, i do think the majority of the ones that stayed on KNEW the class was broken for obvious reasons and, like me, were working on a compliment proffession (personally i did pistoleer for specials to use with lp) but we kept the commando class and also worked on that as well
and with 'i was commando before the big patch', cut some ppl some slack (as ivoni pointed out in previous post, it IS a game afterall), many of the bandwagon jumpers just became commando for the nice little enhanced damage power - or lost hope when they themselves were commandos, and gave it up (many of us lost hope, BUT kept commando for that fateful day..). some of the ppl that went through the two month decay of commando's ranks, i believe, got a bit peeved at seeing now master dancers running with a flamer in hand and with the influx of people, the title novice commando means nothing anymore
and as a final word, what drama? all i see is pride from the people who stuck by commando, and got a bit peeved at all these new people that didnt respect the class
They have earned the right to be a little cocky.
