Thread: i think that comando profession should cost as much of bh keep dabbleing out

I dont have a problem with dablers per say, but I certainly dont give them the professional courtesy I give other "real" commando's.
I am a real commando I am just not a master commando. I spent all the same skill points to earn novice commando. I earned the 40k combat experience I needed. I took commando becuase as a smuggler I have some great skills but no weapons. With commando I get the most accurate and damaging pistol in the game. I also get a great flamethrower. Master commandos get Rocket launchers Particle beams, Grenades, The HAR. Yea I know not all of them are that great but they will improve and some are great a rocket launcher in the hands of a master commando is a sight to behold.
There are lots of people that take smuggler just for the DF line or for Slicing and no one treats them any less becuase they have choosen to just take part of the smugglers skills.
I never stated I treated anyone as less, I said I dont extend the same professional courtsey I do as someone who dabbles. Im entitled to treat anyone as I wish, and am a more respectful player then most, even to players I happen to dislike. You can play the game how ever you wish, and I'd never say someone was a lesser player for choosing to take a bit of commando and enjoy themselves. More power to you, however, in my personal dealings I choose to give master commando's I see a nod, where I might pass right by the smuggler with the launcher pistol <shrug> That's professional courtsey.
The whole dabblers verse masters debate is stupid. The point of dabbling is that the person wishes to gain more versatility to their character, but at the same time they understand that they will not be as powerful as someone who has mastered that profession. I agree there should be some other incentive to mastering Commando than a redundant attack, but still... More important right now is to fix the stupid nonworking HAR and grenade accuracy.
Besides, saying we should keep dabblers out is just whiney... you might as well come in posting "Waaah! I wanna be the only UB3R-D00D on my server with a flamethrower!!!" Hell, if you really wanna keep dabbling out, why not whine that we should move every bonus obtained in the Commando trees (moves, skills, everything) to the master box and ONLY give the LP certification at Novice Commando? You'll get about the same response.
As to treating dabblers as less, what's wrong with you? Why should that player deserve any less of your respect because they decided to only take one line of your beloved profession? /agrees completely with San on this half of the issue.
"I was speaking specifically of the commando profession, not of a maxed out template that includes commando"
Everything I have listed up there (specials and weapon abilities and certs.) you have just by being a commando. I was pointing out some of(the best ones in my opinion) the options you have at your disposal as a commando. Those skills come as part of the prerequisits for commando. I only mentioned the the other skill trees as options for the skill pts you have left over.
And saying that commando's are one trick ponies because they do "alot of damage" is about as insightful as saying chefs are one trick ponies because all they do is make buffs.

Yea until you need that weapon of yours sliced. You can call an apple an orange if you want but elitism is still elitism. I respect the player not the profession but hey its ok that we disagree I will give you a nod if I see you and if you ignore me I will move on and slice someone elses weapon.
You're reading way too much into my statement SanTsu. Seriously. Im not rude to people, or at least I do my best not to be, its not in my nature. I, however, respect Master Commando's on a professional level because I can speak first hand on the amount of work it takes for the lack of reward. Does that mean you have put any less work in? I don't really know, but I assume you worked just as hard. Every third person out there is lugging a Flamethrower, and I'd give myself whiplash if I gave them all a nod. I do take the extra time to say hello or give a few quick exchanged words to master commando's I see, and that's about the end of it. Not to say I dont talk to other people, just that I try to -always- speak to master commando's I see.
Anyway, its too difficult to explain in any manner that makes sense and wont be picked apart. Feel free to assume what you will.
This is exactly right. The BH's have dealt with it for a long time now. Simple fact is.A pistoleer eyeshots you, and you think BH. and run to the forums screaming nerf....
I understand where you're comming from with this remark. I hate to burst your bubble tho.
If a Pistoleer can /eyeshot you then he is not just a Pistoleer. That may be his main proffession abd the one he like best but he is still a Bounty Hunter. Just the same that anyone who busts out a FlameThrower is a Commando.
These are the main ideas i see why some players hate dabblers so much.
1. You think they aren't part of your proffession
2. They bring extra and undue focus to other players about how effective and powerful your moves are.
Rather silly. If they can weild the weapon and use the specials then they earned them and are in fact part of your proffession. If someone gets owned by eyeshot and is gonna cry about it on the boards, of course they will go to the BH. It's a freaking BH move! If it was used by a player then they were a BH. Doesn't matter if they are master or not, they are still a BH.
The sole use of eyeshot in my post was for example purposes only. I am not crying nerf for it.
And everyone is picking up the commando line ONLY for the flamethrower, this pisses us off because everyone ELSE who sticks with what they have start to complain about the massive flux of nuts with grillers running around and thus the nerf fest starts.

Now, someone gets fired, and they'll be running screaming to the forums for a nerf. Welcome to the club.
Oh, and that smuggler correspondent guy? you know, the Dabbler? He's often in the lead when it comes to BH nerfs. But oh, OH, how I could start in on Feigndeath and how it's SO not right to be able to take down a Dark Jedi Master with bleeds and FD.
But I haven't.
Get a clue, Grunzer. The guy who takes out a DJMaster with FD is going to wake up to wounding out the wazoo - there is a consequence to the action. The pistoleer with Eyeshot ain't a Pistoleer, now is he? He's a skilless dork who does nothing but spam, you guessed it, the most overpowered BH Special. The current call is NOT for a general BH nerf, it's for 2 specific things - one off, Eyeshot is too freaking strong. Everyone knows it and it's being pseudo-fixed....maybe. Two off, there is NO WAY that a BH shouldhave a betterCommando weapon than a Commando does. That's like saying a Pistoleer should be better with a Rifle than a Rifleman is. The only thing the Flamer has on the LLC is the DoT effect, which doesn't matter against anything but the biggest creatures anyways.
The reason people grab Flamethrower is that it's a **edit** good weapon... and the rest of our trees suck, in a general combat sense.Expendables just aren't an effective PvE combat solution due to the high operating cost - they're something you only ever use when you need it killed RIGHT **edit** NOW, which usually means a player. The Acid rifle just plain sucks. So, for those people who want to take a good heavy weapon, Flamer is the only option. People are only screaming to nerf Flamer because inother classes the dabblers have a huge selection of trees to take.
The whole problem I have with dabblers in commando are these.
1) To many griefers taking the flame thrower so they can run around and do massive damage and think they are some sort of SWG God.
2) See above
3) See above above
I dont think any less of person that wants to see what the proffesion is like and dabbles in it. I think alot less of someone that doesnt perse dabbles but takes the proffesion to grief.
I worked very hard to get where I am and then you hear complaints about nerf the flame thrower because we just dont like the fact it does alot of damage and every 3rd person has one. I dont want to nerf the BH for eye shot I think its great they are able to use it. I dont want to nerf the CH for having a Rancor and sitting back while there creatures fight for them. I dont want to nerf the combat medic because they can poison me and leave me for dead while I can do nothing about it until someone comes along and takes pitty on me and kills me.
I am however in full agreement to nerf the flame throwers best attacks to master commando. Then anyone that wants to dabble to see what its like has all the respect I can possibly give them because then they know what it takes to become a master at it.
Last but not least the launcher pistol isnt all the great considering the options you have with other pistols.
Oh, I see how it works. No one that would take the time to master would ever be a griefer. Only dabblers do that. Give me a break!
I have said it before, but it obviously needs to be repeated. People do not moan about the damage a FT does because is such an uber attack. They do it becuase the revenge TEF makes it an uber attack.
Also, lets take your suggestion of moving all the best attacks to the master box. But then of course, to make it fair, everyone gets to go back to novice and level without them. ![]()
