Okay part 2:

So I've decided to go the TKA way. What's a good way/place for Commandos to gain unarmed xp?

Get yourself to Dantooine, and roll up some Piket Longhorn missions.. they are the only ones paying 10k ish so easy to spot.

What you need is... Flame IV, good kinetic armour (highly can recommaned Ubese.. with a good slice, 60+% kinetic resist with half the encumberance of Composit), a flamethrower, and some patience at first.
Recommaned some Bio Engineer enhanced clothing (shirt and bandolier works with armour) with Fear Releases, they give +10 to warcry and intimidate (each).

Now head for the lair.. when you examine the Piket Longhorns, you notice right away Light Armour, 75% Heat resist. Not exactly the perfect target for a Commando.. but actually this will work in our favor. Kinetic resist is rather low on them too.

There are two kinds of Piket Longhorns... 'A Piket Longehorn' and 'A Female Piket Longhorn'. The males are little tougher, and always social with each other and the females. The females are not social, you can kill them right under each other noses.

The lairs will always spawn 3 Pikets (regular or females, thats random), and there are 9 total in each lair.

If there are only females out, just go right in and kill the first, if there are 2 regular Pikets you need to split them as usual (I explain if needed, please ask).

If there are 3 regular Pikets, you will get two.. though this is doable, very risky (at UA IV. But they don't deathblow, not aggresive, so not that big deal.

Fighting tactic: Intimidate first (no weapon equipted)... but not more then 2 tries, or you lose with the HAM costs of it when it closes in at 30m... hope it lands.. when the Piket is at 20m, equipt Flamer, flamesingle2, then equipt VB after you hear the flamer execute its special (regardles if it lands).. now tank away
This is the most critical moment, as you have now roughly 8 seconds you can do nothing, if intimidate doesnt land, if the Piket hits you while you still have the flamer equipted, its gonna get ugly.
Once the Flamer special timer is gone, heal yourelf, reapply Intimidate.. or use Flame special again if it didnt land first time. Its important that you unequip it right away again, obviously, you want as few hits as possible with it in hands
Its a bit tricky, but once you get the hang of it, its easy. You need to be good with your hotkeys and macros for all the switching though

Once you get to Balance I in TKA, you get the first KD, this makes it so much easier. Pull, intimidate, equipt VB, KD, if KD lands, you 'usually' (baring lag) have enough time to get flamer out, flame, back to VB before it gets up.

The fact that they are so high heat resistant works here in your favor. The initial Flamer hit gets reduced by a lot.. which is something we want, the lower it is, the more unarmed exp you will get. The DoT will do your main damage, but DoT damage is accounted for anything.
Exp on those is between 2k and 3.5k unarmed.. depeding how good or how bad the Flamer hit. Best is if you get a counterattack or dodge... then the flamer does no damage at all, but the DoT still lands.. 4k unarmed exp.

I did this from UA IV to TKA 0/2/o/2 where I am now. Its rough at only UA IV, you get incapped a bit, but it only get better.

And honestly, its a ton of fun..more risk.. more excitement.. for me at least.

Lol, that got kinda long.. hope someone actually can get some uses out of it and reads it )

Commando: a military unit trained and organized as shock troops
especially for hit-and-run raids into enemy territory.

Actually if you do the math, it will only hurt commandos that want to master and benefit from a CH tank. Flamer IV commandos are almost assuredly using it as their primary weapon, and have plenty of points to pick up the new nerf required boxes to keep their grauls.

Right now have all of commando but Acid Rifle, which just seems totally worthless right now. I plan to master, but I need to figure out a build that gives me good survivability in PvP and solo PvE. My current build was working nicely, but the nerf is shake it up.

this CH change (it isnt really a nerf) will effect EVERYONE, and to be honest, for the better

OK with the changes this is what im thinking of doing....

MCommando

Novice Medic

TKA 4/1/0/0 (or some variation of TKA but I like the med line)

Scout 3/0/0/0

Novice Pistoleer

Smuggler 0/0/1/0

how does that sound? similar to a fellow up above me who posted I believe.

Oh and who thinks they need to combine the HAR and FT in one line, and give us a Launcher Pistol Line? I DO!

Some comments:
TKA: While meditate is nice... seriously consider getting at least Balance to II.. that gives you KD at Balance I, and at Balance II a very yummy 15 Unarmed Toughness.. thats 15% less melee damage (if you have nothing or VB equipted, obviously.
The TKA Precision line also boast many many passive defensive mods, including some more Unarmed Toughness.

Smuggler: Maybe dumb the Pistoleer, and get Smuggler Dirty Fighting to II.. that gives you Panic Shot... in essence like Warcry... stops the target for 10 seconds from attacking (not moving though). Unlike Warcry.. the resist rate is extremly low.
Downside, its a cone attack, and more then often you get unwanted aggro with it... you have been warned. Also, at DF II feign dead will work more reliably.
On the whole FD issue.. DoT, FD, collect... I have the feeling this will get nerfed somehow. So I wouldn't rely on it really, besides, its the most boring. My personal opinion of course.

Aye Jadegrief I concur with you almost entirely, especially on it being more risky and fun to tank yourself than using a pet hehe.

I find it ammusing when people say they can tank as a TKA when something has a FT dot on it. I could tank them as a chef if they were taking 3k damage a tick.

Yes, Commando/TKA is pretty good.

Some people in this post are talking about how much they dont like dabblers..

so what i'v got to say to you people who dont like dabblers..

i cant wait untill they move Wound healing up to Master TKA.

healing your own wounds should only bepossible for a Master.. someone who just learns bitsfrom the wonderfull techniques of Teras Kasi could never heal thier own wounds.

Sure, I agree with thoose who say dabbling is a part of the game.. but some parts of dabbling just gives you the la cream of a proffession, and that's not meant to be. Either the proffession is totally broken.. or the skill just need to be at a diffrent level.

if you dont want people to dabble in Commando.. why are you dabblers in other proffessions and gain ALOT from it ?

Now dont get me wrong.. cus i love dabbling. brings out the wholefun in the game.. i can learnsome stuff from one proffession and some from another. the problem with all proffessions right now is that the best skills for the proffessions are to low down in the skill tree, and to easy to attain

You people have to quit complaining about dabbling. Its a part of the game and thusly has to be dealt with. It is going to happen, and with some of the professions that only give you a few left over skill points, you have no choice but to dabble in something else.

I think most of complaining about dabbling from commandos is becasue two of our trees are totally worthless. So everyone becomes a commando for only flame, leading to an undeserved nerf of it because, "too many people have a flamethrower." TKA trees from what I've seen all have something to offer, thus no one tree gets abused above the others. Just my opinion of course, but do you see what I'm saying. Commandos are not mad about dabblers per se, more about the nerf bat hitting the only viable part of their profession.

A side question: what does meditate 1 do? I need to choose between that or the first box on the tree that gives dizzy.

Off on a little tangent here...

I just wanted to ask... is the KD from TKA more effective than the one from Pistoleer?
