Thread: After the CB and JTL....Garvin?

I care very little for JTL, because it just ain't gonna work. See what I know is that if your covert on ground, your covert in spcae which means X-Wings and Ties can fly right next to each other, and trust me it will happen. Unless they change that I refuse to play. There's also gonna be the problem of it being twitched base. And I'm actually good at that sort of stuff. However if it lags or somebody finds a way to exploit something it is not going to be any fun. I can't see why they just don't have safe zones or whatever for factions. I honestly think Rogue Squadron II is still going to be a better game than JTL will ever be. I very much doubt JTL will be so amazing cool.

Again, I really could care less of JTL... and have posted many similar ideas in the Radiant forums. From whatI'm guessing JTL is going to be flying around shooting at eachother- and well sure that's for awhile, but after an hour it's gets lame. Some people say, "oh but it's star wars". Um yeah, when I bought this game I read about it being the more everyday kind of starwars- the REAL STAR WARS. Really the scope of posibilities of JTL is just so freaking endless...but if they take the easy way out I can tell ya what's it gonna be like:

After a month everyone flying around in the same ship with the same upgrades, pwning eachother in one shot. Similar to what happend to the battlefield-less ground wars.

Since you say JTL is basically a different game by different people, if I learn it must be bought i'm going to be pretty p*ssed, and seriously consider leaving swg... but I likeTHIS game too much and all it's potential. Sorry the idea of being forced to buy a totally different game (so far) that has no relation to this ground game, swg... just doesn't please me.

Punish us in this game so another game can be released that we'll make ya pay for "oh trust me they'll relate later"...?

Later smugglers.... you'll smuggler later...

Later pvp'rs.... those battlefields are difficult....

Later smugglers... just later....

Later droid engineers...

Later exploiters.... we'll get you in trouble later...

Later bug fixes...

Content? Oh later...

a Combat BALANCE? ... Later....

Jedi? now.

haha it's pretty sad... I get made fun of for my crappy pvp rating because I'm one of the few people that'll actually fight even though it's a guareenteed death - and to top it off i'm a commando! People seem afraid to die in a game. I have started so many f'in battles on my server and no one respects the real man... me!

First off, let me say that this is not a post about bashing the current state of SWG, nor do I want it to turn into one. Having gotten that out of the way, let me say that I have been a commando since I first started playing SWG. My two remaining accounts, which are now dormant, are my MC/Dark Jedi Knight accountand my poor, poor Pikeman.

From what Garvin and the other Corrs have said, I still have some faith that SWG will see a bit of a turn-around in the coming months. However, even if the CB turns out to be super-fantastic and JTL blows everyone away....where does this leave us Master Commandos and every other ground-based combat or crafting prof?

I like a good dogfight as much as the next guy...but the things I remember most about SWG are the firsts.... First fight with a Krayt Dragon, when I was a newly minted Commando with only Flame IV and an FT that was 200 max dam. There were about 30 of us....no one had buffs, no one could rez and I was still wearing Bone Armor...and it was UBER.

I remember being the first one in my guild (sadly now disbanded, everyone having gone off to play different games) to discover the DJM missions at the Dath Prison. That night, I led a 15 man raid on the DJM missions. I remember the sense of accomplishment and teamwork that followed that kill. Still have the screenie too. I also remeber the tremendous let-down..."You have completely looted the corpse of all items" A DLT20a rifle. Everyone was just bummed.

Asa master commando, I know what my role is. I am first to fight, the point of the spear. I spread death and destruction, lay waste to my enemies...I am a force to be feared. Hopefully, after the CB, this will actually be true. But what happens then? Once the newness of the CB wears off...where do we go from there? Once we have worked out the kinks and adjusted our tactics, what will we do? Trundle across the same, time-worn trails on Dathomir, mercilessly hunting every last Nightsister Elder into oblivion or stalking the canyons of Tatooine, always searching for that all elusive setof 11 +200 dam Krayt tissues? I have to tell you...I am sick to death of that crap. There isn't one single thing in the game that I have not killed solo...including the DJMs before they lost thier force powers. I lead or was part of massive assaults on the DWB...and as a MC, it sure as hell was nice to be needed again. But after the 25th raid or so into the DWB...it just gets old.

I haven't actively played for about 4 months now.I log on every now and then, pay some maintenance, send a few tells, look at my every dwindling friend's list. Every now and then, I'll grab a buff, wander out and burninate some things....for about a half hour. Even after all this time, that first, *click Fwooooooooosh* of a FS2 still makes me grin.

But I need more. I need a reason to go out. I need some hope that soon, there will be some meaning to grouping up for a loot hunt....like, a sane, sensible loot table or some fun in GCW again. As a long time veteran of this game, I see that on average, it takes most gamers at max 4 months to go see everything in the game...every planet, every poi and every dungeon. I still have my commando toon becuase I want to be a commando in SWG and have meaningful things to do as a commando.

So, I guess the real point of all this is...what are the Corrs hearing about what comes AFTER the CB and JTL...I can't honestly see continuing to pay for two accounts that will lay dormant for another six months.

The ground game is and will continue to be an important part of SWG. My biggest fear (and so far it's proving correct) is that it will be ignored due to JTL. Unless I can land my TIE on an asteroid, whip out my trusty FT and seek the Mighty Space Slug, JTL doesn't really hold that much interest for me.

So, Garvin...any peeps from the Devs about what lies down the road for us dedicated ground-pounders and our beloved heavy weapons?

This has been a pressing question for me as well.

Honestly, I probably wont ever subscribe to SWG again unless the ground-based content makes a radical change.

That's really hard to say, mainly because of the possibilities of what we might be able to squeeze into the revamp (already got a couple of minor grenade tweaks scheduled in the revamp that weren't in there at the time of the summit...these minor tweaks will make a BIG difference to us though)...

I can tell you that, when it comes to JTL, nothing in there will effect Commandos...Some professions will see certain adds with JTL, but if you think long and hard, you can probably guess which professions those would be)...

After the revamp the Devs have hinted that they will be focusing on Profession revamps for all the professions that need them...They may start with those professions not touched by the Revamp (non-combat professions) to spread a little love around....

When speaking with the Programmers at the Summit, they acknowledged that our Consumable Launcers and Grenades needs a lot of work...but they couldn't promise to get that in with the revamp...they did say that it's one thing, if they can't get it in the revamp, to expect shortly after the revamp...

Personally, with all that we are suppose to get with the Revamp, I think we'll be more then willing to wait for further fixes to be completely honest...it will probably take us a month or two to get over the happy tingley feelings of not dying before we get offa second special in combat AND being able to last in PvP...Some Commandos will even be to busy trying out new template combos with they may have never considered before to worry about our other issues for a time...

To keep playing SWG you DO NOT need to buy JTL (if that's what you are wondering)...You will be able to still enjoy everything on the ground...and the new elements added to the ground game, as far as is my understanding, will still be available to those who bought the ground game...

The only things you won't get by not purchasing the expansions is that:

1) You won't be able to play the space part...

2) You won't be able to play the new 2 species...

And not 100% on the 3rd option (about ship wright)....

3) You won't be able to play any of the new professions, possibly including Ship Wright...

JTL is an expansion...With JTL's push to the live servers they are going to add other elements to the game for certain professions that aren't really JTL dependent (just timing)...This expansion has it's own dedicated team. Currently it's my belief (and I could be wrong in my interpretation of things we've been told) that currently the JTL team is being assisted by SWG team members to make sure it get's out on time and at the most stable and productive it can be (they are testing the heck out of this thing in Beta)...Once JTL is complete, those extra SWG hands that have been working on JTL will move back to SWG meaning we'll have more people working on our issues rather then JTL issues...And rumor is that some of that JTL dedicated team might temporarily come over to SWG to assist withfinishing up theRevamp...

Heheh ty TH errr Garvin I get confused with all the we have to wait things *wink* te ehee

Knowing what I know makes 2 things frustrate me to know end...

1) The Waiting for the Revamp

2) The Waiting for the Revamp Docs to go public

You don't know how many nights I've sat there with my finger over the "submit post" button of info I really shouldn't be posting (legally)...

I don't mean to come across sounding like TH, but when you all do find out whats coming, it will make some shread of sense why it's taking so long and why they didn't rush things out months prior...You'll get a sense of the massive undertaking they are taking with this project...Think of it as re-inventing the combat (all aspects from general to specific) for all of SWG....In this process, every special and weapon will have to be tweaked...even Armor will be getting it's share of tweaks...There will be new graphics and animations added to the game that are probably still being designed as far as I know...And there will be cool effects that aren't in game that will lead to even more tactic possibilities in combat...

Again...I hate the wait...The wait for the revamp isn't so bad for me...but the wait for the Docs so you all know what I'm talking about is DRIVING ME INSANE if you can't tell...All I can hope for is that either they come out soon or we get some word on why the delay on them being released...We correspondents have been repeatedly told that nothing has changed from what we saw at the summit (with the exception of a few additions and other minor adjustments) so it's hard to guess why the delay is taking so long...

Even if they release this documents. After the amount of changes that will be in said document.

I see no reason to believe they will do any of it.

I get the feeling they will be working on the next expansion game before they redo the combat.

So people will get to take their swordsman to a different new planet with more 200k droids that only they can handle.
