Commando is very evenly balanced with other professions, but when used with combination can become much more powerfull.
Derp...man, what are you smokin? I need some of whatever it is.
Commando is ______________. : 169 Skill points devoted entirely to semi-effective use of a Nerfed Flamethrower.
- Throw a grenade at it like he was flinging the poison packs?
- Commandos can only hit with grenades from the whopping distance of 10m away. Correct me if I'm wrong, but someone who is a commando has spent years of their life training in battle and is probably pretty buff. They can throwa grenade farther than 30 feet or so. Football players throw footballs 60 yards. A commando can't haul back and chuck a grenade at least 30m? Not to mention the huge ham expenditure to throw a grenade. Considering the damage done, it's not even worth it.
- Use my Heavy Acid Rifle on it?
- well aside from the creature's high acid resistance, HAR has no dot, no armor piercing, and a horribly slow repeat rate. You'd do more damage beating the creature on the nose with the butt of the HAR. It's the butt of every commando joke as it is.
- Use some Heavy Weapons on it?
- First and foremost, I can do more damage to the thing with my flamethrower. Secondly, the materials that go into heavy weapons must be horrible because the lowest price on average for Heavy Weapons is 15,000 credits. A rocket launcher is 30,000 credits on average. The ham cost for their use is too high, the damage is too low. They are charged and cost a lot to buy. 500 credits a shot for the others and 1000 credits a shot for rocket launchers (figure 30 shots per weapon) is not cheap no matter how rich players are. These costs add up. If you don't like buffs and don't like doing "solo group missions" of Jantas for 27,000 credits riding back and forth all day-boring) then you can't afford to use this tree of commando. The accuracy of Heavies isn't even considered, but if you've ever fired off a few shots with one you know what it's like.
Hopefully rebalance addresses these thing or commando gets some loving soon in a publish. I love the flamethrower tree and flame cone 2 at master commando. I have a good stash of heavy weapons and use them for certain things or sometimes just to justify having that tree. There are a few specialized situations where I bust out the Heavy Acid Rifle, like against highly heat resistant critters that dislike acid. Even in those situations, flamethrower usually outdamages HAR. I've never figured out how to throw grenades right. All I know is they've only worked for me at 10m range standing still and they cost a lot of ham and their damage is nothing to get excited about. Not to mention you can't use Heavies or Grenades indoors or in caves which is bogus. If a reckless daredevil desperate soldier wants to let a rocket fly indoors make there be some consequence for it, like an explosion that blows up the room's whole contents with him included if he's too close. Grenades of certain types have been used indoors before in movies and tv. Commandos are trained to know how to deploy these types of weapons in situations without harming themselves. Make commando weapons useful or change them so we're not devoting an entire hybrid profession mastery's skill pointsto one tree for flame cone 2.
Commando is a most feared individual.....in every game but SWG..

Commando is nowhere near as powerful as it should be.
