I don't see posts like are contained in here as whining or anything unbecoming of a Commando...I see many Commandos passionate about wanting change...they know the answers are out there, they just want a peak at those answers...

My comment was not directed soley at the content of this thread, but the recent tone of the boards. For example, there is a thread where someone asked about how to use grenades and got flamed by one person followed by several rants about how people hate jedi and are ruining the game. There are several threads complaining about the content of the friday features. Yes I am privy to a bit more information than most, but even if I was not, I would not think that type of behavior was acceptable. In my mind, not saying something is the same as condoning a behavior, so I decided to say my peace. I supposed I could have made a new thread compaining about recent board behavior, but that would just add to the clutter on the board.

Ok, why the **** are you all so bloody whiny today? Seriously, whats up? Sure the friday feature is about JTL, but its not the only update we have had this week. A new mini-publish that address a range of issues just hit test center, and we got info the loot revamp recently also. Just because something doesn't come in a shiny wrapper that says friday feature doesn't mean its unimportant. On top of that you know things are afoot in the combat upgrade, or else you would hear a bunch of complaining and moaning from us testers.

For people who don't like the tone of this message, tough poo poo. I expect the level of this community to maintain a standard better than that of other SWG boards, and it seems to be on the verge of declining into an abyss of pointless whining and flaming. If you don't like the content of a post, don't respond. If you are frustrated by a lack of information, walk away from the forums.

You (meaning all of us) have to accept that in all likelyhood you won't hear much about the combat balance until after alpha for the simple reason that there will likekly be massive uphevals between when testing starts and when they feel things are sufficiently set in stone that they can present them to the community at large and support their arguments for various changes. If this really doesn't sit well with you, I can rattle off a number of games that can keep you distracted while you wait.

What if noone was allowed to post? What if there were no forums? No method for players to say "this is broken" or "hey, good job"? How much would still be broken? The forums ARE a place for players to vent (whine) about whats wrong with the game, what they want changed, etc.

The simple fact of the matter is that you are privy to information that 99.5 percent of the player base is NOT. It allows you to be a little more patient, because you KNOW whats in store (or something very close to it). You are privy to conversations that we are not. You are in the light. We are completely in the dark. I am sure you guys have an idea of when to expect to start, however the NDA won't allow you to share that information. Why? Because if it got leaked, that the beta invites / beta servers wouldnt go active until say, January, then there would be a whole lot of subscription cancellations until then. Then if they didnt get in, they wouldnt reactivate until it hit TC, or live. Thats also there reason that you have to have an active subscription to get into beta to begin with: it keeps you paying (though not necessarily playing - for instance, I havent logged in the game in about a week or so). I would venture that if they announced the sandbox starts in January, beta at best in February, approx 25-30 percent subcriptions would hit "cancel subscription", and thats on the low side. These same 25-30 percent are the hardcore PvP'ers who are basically just hanging around to see what the CU brings. These same 25-30 percent are getting their kicks in other games. If you were in charge of SOE, you would probably muzzle ANY info about when the CU starts. But the simple fact is: In anything, communication is paramount. Here, it is nonexistant.

Releasing info (i.e. - the combat docs) would go a LONG way to get players happy again. To get them excited about the game again. I know it would me. I would start playing those profs that look to be fun / interesting as a result of the intended changes that are to come. I would give another prof a look, that I previously dismissed quickly after mastering or almost mastering. I have mastered all the combat profs except BH, spread out over two toons... I didnt do it to get Jedi. I did all the profs on two seperate characters. I got Jedi thru pure luck. Its not something I went after. But thats neither here nor there.

The simple fact is: You know (or have a very damn good idea) of whats coming. We dont. Remember that when you slam people for wanting to know what is going on.

This isn't a worthless FF to those of us who like JTL.

I think a lot of the "worthless" sentiments are coming over the frustration of so much open attention being paid to JTL still when the upgrade is suppose to be the main focus right now. There IS a ton of attention currently being paid to the Combat Upgrade, but it's all behind closed doors currently...a fact that doesn't sit well with many understandably...

In my opinion, it's nice to get JTL features...but I feel like we've been over-dosed on JTL as of recent...It would be nice if there was a Combat Upgrade Friday Feature posted as a break...

Imagine it from the otherside of the fence...imagine if for 2 months every Friday Feature was specifically Commando related...Sure it would be worth a lot to Commandos, but how would other's feel? Having the focusweek after week on the same area of the game excludes those who don't desire to play that area or would prefer to hear about something else...to make these Friday features more community friendly they should mix it up a bit...but from a marketing standpoint, it does make sense business wise to keep pushing your new product...

If the public could see behind the closed doors and see all the Combat Upgrade chatter going on, they wouldn't pay so much attention to the Friday Features, but when that's all you have, you tend to get a bit bitter when it appears the same week after week...

Just my 2 cents on the subject...

I was actually pleased with the Friday Feature on 11/12, (not that the FF was JTL, I'm still waiting for CU info) but the info they did release was SORELY needed for JTL. One of the most impressive things about SWG is customizability of almost everything. And I admit I heard about some of the things you could do with ship paint jobs, I was excited. Until I found out no one knew what they looked like or how to get a specific one...

See, even the Shipwrights don't know what the "texture kits" look like (that's how you apply a paint pattern to your ship), which I think is incredibly dumb.

For the JTL-haters, you can feel better though...they left off all the Black Sun fighters and the Hutt Scyk from the ships they showed...(and I just happen to own a Ixiyien Black Sun Medium Fighter.. )

Boo!!!

And stop bickering...you should be flaming the developers, not each other.

Yes the developers suck for putting out JTL-only Friday Features. They have been jamming JTL down everyone's throats for 3 months now, and have done little or nothing to better the ground game (in fact, I think they have made it worse, which is why I quit).

HOWEVER, TH has been flamed one too many times for posting stuff that wasn't thought through, was misstated, or wasn't cleared through his handlers. That being the case, I think you can be damn sure they won't be releasing anything until the correspondents and sandboxers get the chance to ripthe plansapart. Otherwise the boards will degrade into one big uncontrollable flame fest.

Net sum: What else do they have to post friday features about? Everything ground related is "classified," so they just post the same, tired old concept art shots of JTL ships.

It sucks. The developers suck. But at this point, there's not much else you can do about it until the sandbox gets further along.

AND........as a bonus (not like anyone cares anyway) my personal belief is that the ONLY way the developers can make this debacle up to the players is to shave off 2 programmers to make a new 3 Act series of events (like the dead-eye events) that will give them something to talk about while the man behind the curtain finishes the combat balance.

Hell, if Pex can drop AT-AT's all over hell's half-acre, it can't be too hard to come up with a storyline and put in a couple of spawned events to run through...

Does anyone have the slightest idea what the combat upgrade eta is? I hope its soon before they make so many JTL publishes that it becomes worse than early beta.....
