I agree with Mr. Rankorcity....
I've spent too much time, too much money, too much effort on this game to give up now. Only way to get me to quit before May was if I ran out of money to pay for the account.
I was gonna launch into an insane rant but I've filled my quota for today so I gotta hold off =P

This really scares me (taken from the offical Lucasarts site): And experience the all new combat system featuring new weapons, new armor, new effects and an all new user-interface to make combat even more engaging and fun!
To me it sounds like they're packaging it together...TH said that the CU will be free, but...does that mean "free if you purchase RotW?

Ok here is the reason it is worded like that.
People outside the current SWG base have no idea what the CU or any of that is. If the CU comes out at the same time as RotW then they can say to people not in SWG that there will be a brand new combat system with the expansion.
"experience the all new combat system" Whe way this is worded you can tell that it is not part of the actual expansion. It says "experience the" which emplys that it is something that is in game that you would be experiancing. If they had said "Experience a" then you can get worried because that does imply that it comes out only with RotW.
It is a marketing tool that will give the CU more attention w/o saying that its a major bug fix, which does not sound very good for the company

No, the CU is just that, a compleat uprade and overhaul of the game, where as RotW will be like JTL and added feature

The CU can not be part of the expansion since it bring so fundamental changes to the core system. AP/AR is going away wich will mean that damage will be calculated in a completly diferent way. All combat professions will be changed in some way, even if it is just adjusting defense/offense. With this in mind, if the CU was a part of the expansion, it would bring a great inbalance between people with it and without. Just imagine how it would be if 2 peps dueled and had the exact template and weapons, but one had the expansion and the other not.
As I said, since it bring such fundamental core changes, it will be a completly freestanding upgrade, that at the latest (hopefully) will be patched out to the live server with the expansion.

Alright people settle down...
Lets look at the bright side of yesterday's announcement...
Number 1: It was the first communication we have had in several weeks regarding the status of the CURB.
Number 2: A new expansion is coming. While I am not pleased that they pushed off the CU for yet ANOTHER expansion, you HAVE to look forward to another planet.
Number 3: We now KNOW with a large degree of confidence when the CU will hit live. Although, one could argue that this came from an outside source (ign.com) rather than a SOE red letter is more than slightly annoying, the fact that we now have a target date (plus or minus a week or so) should be cause for rejoice.
Number 4: If you think someone from SOE (much less TH) is going to come in and say "You were right. We strung you along for over a year you dumb **edit**, got 15 dollars a month from each of you", you may as well give up. Aint gonna happen. There is no way in hell thats going to happen.
I guess what I am trying to say is to suck it up and go with it. We have waited too long to give up now.

actually, there's a diff. group of programmers working on the expansion. the devs have mentioned that there's one group that is working on the CU, while there are other groups doing other things. I don't think this expansion has taken any resources away from the CU.

Ugh... Look at what the LucasArts article called it... Star Wars Galaxies: Episode III, The Rage of the Wookies. I realize that's probably a marketing device... but still, it's... unsettling.
As for the other topic, there's no way they CAN make the CU into an expansion pack that you'd have to buy, becasue it completely changes the combat system, so people who didn't upgrade wouldn't even be able to fight!
