I do not really like this change, obviously. After taking a 500hp hit in pve from a blue con in 45% kinetic resist armour whilst using an acid rifle I was thinking something is very wrong. When your effective range is very short then you cant take these kind of hits.

If this 2.5x damage is a bug resulting from one of the recent bug-ridden patches then thats one thing, it will be fixed. Since there was no mention of this in the patch information I am hoping its a bug.

If we are stuck with this kind of damage in melee I want to see some AP on the weapons, I want them to be effective at longer ranges and I want the rifle skill bonuses to apply to them for accuracy and speed. Why there is a marksman prerequisite is beyond me since the only weapon that benefits from any of it is the launcher pistol. It is as useful as Dancing.

Have not seen that yet. However I have only fired about 30-40 shots with HW vs soft targets post-patch. I tend to keep track of when I miss with them, so we shall see.

Yeah its messed up. A shaupant was hiting me for 500 damage. My Rancor has a damage range of 500. **edit** is a shaupant hitting me for 500 damage? The 2.5x Damage is stupid. I cannot hunt anymore. A spinflap incaps me and my non combat armorsmith can fight longer against animals than my Commando.

Also I was in PVP the other day and missed 3 Flamesingle2 shots on a guy and had to sit there and get beat up by his non creature handler pet and him while I waited to fire back. His non ch pet was kicking my but because of this 2.5x damage. Thats just stupid. Please fix it. The launcher pistol sucks.. My FWG5 is better. The acid is not that great and the flame is about all we have. Grenades are too expensive to use all the time. Heavy weapons cost a ton and are limited use. We already miss just about everything we use a special on.. So please fix this.

You do know that they said they reduced the accuracy of left hand fire weapons on soft targets right? I haven't tried firing one at at soft target post patch, but that's what they said they did.

And the fact that the HPBC and the flamer have no specific pool targeting and terrible accuracy you could just go through shot after shot and never actually either a) hit the same pool twice or b) even hit the target twice....and then if that happens you're out quite a bit of credits...and speaking of credits I don't know how much a crate of HPBC's go for on your server, but I'm not interested in spending 90k on 1 crate only to get 5k per mission I do, I could go through 2 HPBC's per mission and it would end up costing me 25k or so instead of making me 5k.....so using the HPBC as a main weapon isn't the way to deal with the 2.5x melee mod.

For one, I never said that using only HW was a way to fix the 2x melee mod, I said if you had a problem with dying that you did have that option to avoid death on tough mobs (I typically only use them if the mob cons yellow or I need to dispatch one quickly). Also, I never said that you had to go out and kill 5k missions on Lok or Endor or whatever where you might need HPBC. If you are not willing to use anything but a flamethrower, stay on the newb planets and kill the 5k missions there. Those mobs are blue/white cons and don't even get within melee range. If they do, 1 flamesingle drops them like flies if you started by plinking them from 64m. Also, they typically are not aggressive, however they sometimes BAF. Of course I do the easy missions to make money so I can go do the hard missions on the other planets. I am not in the business to hoard credits since there is nothing to spend them on but stims and heavy weapons as far as I am concerned. Hell, sometimes I just shoot things with HWs just for fun, who cares if it is 1k per shot? What else are you going to spend your cash on? food? a second or third set of composite? a 3rd or 4th flamethrower?

And no offense, Xytroncore, but your being a MC should allow you to hit just as well as I can, and I have found that the HW and FT used at range target health pretty much 50% of the time. And misses? As long as your target is not running (which they typically don't for your first 2 shots, more if they start lying down), HW are just fine.

Please tell me you didn't attack a TKM? I have yet to come even close vs them and combat medics. And the sad thing is, most of the melee on my server have figured out that TKM + CM=PvP uber. Ranged mind disease + insane defensive mods = extreme difficulty killing.

just a though on those left hand fire weapons... it costs me 35k (cheapest ive found) to buy one (1) rocket launcher with 32 uses, and I have seen a HPBC at 10k for 32 uses. To buy a crate of either of them would make me bankrupt, im not a money machine, nor do i enjoy grinding missionsto make the vast amounts of money that they would require.Considering other areas that were affected by the patch I do no consider they left and fire weapons like RL a viable option.

Grenades are also VERY RARE to locate on the Gorath server.... seems no one makes them and most master weapon smiths are working for the public at large and not taking personal orders.... maybe thats just me.

There must be a viable option to this 2.5 melee modifier... there are some great ideas out there, like making the modifier reflect stance (1x for standing 1.5x for kneeling and 2x for prone, this would affect ALL professsions) or even making the modifier go down as you gain more skills in the profession (ie master would negate the modifier entirely). Ideas for an alternative to something that has keeps the commando on a rollercoaster ride of tweaks.

I agree that the left-hand weapons are not always the best solution to staying alive. Especially on the more expensive servers. I just used them as an example of what I have found works quite well for me.

As I have said many times, holding a firearm vs melee should carry little to no penalty. Devs need to find a better way to fix the melees while not borking the ranged combat professions.
