Thread: flamethrowers, why can jedi block em?

I'm just curious, but why pick on jedi only in this case? This applies to all melee professions for the most-part. How does one dodge/block/counter attack against a pillar of concentrated flame?

(And furthermore, how the heck is it so easy to miss a target with it at point blank range? )

making commando heavy weps do melee damage would all but kill your effectiveness against most melee (i mean your so powerful against them right now, sheesh, ive seen a commando rip through crowds of fencer/tkms)because of the melee toughness most melee porffs get. however the truth is, right now, a lone commando, cannot kill a melee prof, to do any real damage you have to be within 16m which is within their range and so ur on your back and being sodomised by a stun baton before youve even fired a second shot. This change would definatley not help this, but it would make you more effective against jedi, and also ranged professions. If im not mistaken the bain of the commando is accuracy (amongst other things), but if the commando damage was shifted to melee, you would get the accuracy bonus all melee fighters do when they face ranged proffesions (this used to be a damage bonus, but it was changed by the devs, its 2x i think, but im not positive).

This would make you much more effective against jedi and ranged but would kill your effectiveness against melee ( with is all but dead atm anyway)

I am a jedi, and I could not agree more with the original poster about the shock of jedi blocking flame throwers. When this game was announced, and they started talking about it, I envisioned a much different game, it was my belief back then and my current opinion that jedi is completely borked in implementation. They do not have their coolest powers (jedi push, pull, levitate or jump) and the powers they do have are not balanced properly. Jedi should be extremely vulnerable to blast damage and fire damage. A jedi master saberist shouldbe excellent in blocking a single range and melee player, but add more opponents and that saber block should drop (especially if situational combat was actually a factor so the jedi could only defend incoming fire from one direction). Perhaps this can be addressed in the combat balance, and reworking the commandos and bounty hunters weapons to make them more effective (commandos really should have a knockdown on their flame throwerand grenades too, who wouldn't dive to the ground to avoid being incinerated?).

Edit: Forgot to mention, I do not want to see the commando weapons changing to melee, rather see vulnerabilities of other players to these devastating weapons, a commando shouldbe feared by all, not just jedi.

Just so everyone knows, I tested grenades on a Master Defender today. Not a single grenade was blocked, but the ft shots in between were. So, this is very promising. Start harvesting those kliknik glands and the acklay venom. Time to have some Jedi Proton Grenades made.

umm... i was under the impression that the DOTs still applied to the Jedi even if they block. Not much but the DOTs still stack, 4 flame DOTs are a pain to get rid of (seen one tick on a jedi for 900 points of burn dmg, he was sitting in front of the starport in theed, blocked 3 out of 4 shots, didnt even fight, just started running to the water... died just as he hit it)

Dot's have suffered a large nerf recently and the flame dots are nothing like they used to be, plus if the jedi is of sufficient level, he can just wipe away all the dot's and replenish his health with the touch of one button.
