Thread: Developer Preferences and Opinion
Good Informatin Mr Helm.
Don't get me wrong, I do not think the HAR is a super great weapon.
However, as a commando I use commando weapons as best as I can. I try to find any glimmer of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy forecast.
Screw incramental changes.
Publish 7 is going to bring a massive redesign and evalutation of all combat professions. We need to push for the true commando role now, or I fear that it will never come to fruition.
The day that the Commando officially becomes a support class is the day I drop the profession.
"I just thought a more positive, ask for less, say some nice things about the profession approach my work better. You can catch more flies with honey, than with vinegar."
We're not trying to catch flies here, we're trying to kill them (the flies being everything that's wrong with the profession as it stands right now.) This is basic bargaining, if you aim low, you're going to achieve low. Aim high, and you're probably going to hit more towards the middle.

Dear Mr AchtungFish. As noted previously, I choose to use only commando weapons in the roles in which I believe they are intented. If a creature has an acid vulnerability then I use the commando's acid weapon.
Granted the HAR is not a great weapon, but it works to a certain degree. I agree that the time between shots is poor. I also admit that I know nothing about TKA damage. I work on the assumption that it would seem fair that a heavy weapon does more damage than a fist. If this is not the case, then basically all weapons the commando has suck. Further the entire profession therefore sucks. Whats the point of being a commando if you cannot do the highest amount of damage, especially if we are going to suffer such a time penalty.
Nevertheless, its appropiate to make corrections when someone is misinformed. Name calling is definitely uncalled for. This sort of behavior breeds negativity surrounding our profession. It serves no purpose but to further degrade the already poor reputation of the members of our profession. With some exceptions, the hostility and negativity found in our forum is atrocious. How can we hope that anyone will take us seriously if we sound like a bunch of caffeine enriched teens? I have noted that in long ago posts that persons were more polite and constructive. Some of those same people have stuck out the commando profession through all the nonsense, and have retained some glimmer of hope for change. In addition these persons have not reverted to hostility to get their point across. The main purpose of the post was to garner positive response and proposals for changes that can be made by the devs for the profession. Additionally, I suggest asking for small changes has a greater chance of being addressed, then asking for the developers to do everything at once. If we can get some positive posts on this site, and hopefully turn around the opinion of the devs, then we can get some changes. I realize this has been a long fruitless battle, but it needs to be continued and we need to get the support of the devs. Not single one of us can actually do anything about the issues, we rely on the devs to address them. If they thing we are a bunch of snotty hostile never satisfied group of whiners, I am sure our concerns will find there way to the body of the list of things to do, right after the issue of giving gubburs a face lift.
Finally, as a new person to this forum, it seems extremely counter productive to deride me and drive me away from the forum and the profession. Commandos need a many members as possible, and need an organized plan of action to draw the attention of the devs and the community. Deriding new person only serves to reduce our ranks, and make our efforts weaker. Everytime you drive a person away from the commando forum through negativity, is the creation of a new enemy of the commando profession, which further deepens the abyss in which we currently reside. In other forums, person are happy to gain a new member, and encourage them to stick around and be involved. In our forum it is all complaints, and disrespect among members. I am not saying that everyone does this, but look over the posts and you can see the general pattern. As such, why would anyone want to get involved and try to help us if we are such a nasty bunch of complainers.
Point is negativity breeds negativity, deriding commando members results in losses to our ranks, and in the end we are worse off then before.
Try to be positive, try not to be mean to others, and possibly if our forum becomes a bit more friendly, we might be able to attract attention to our plight.
I agree that this is basic bargaining of a sort.
My point is that if we cannot get the other side to the table, then there is no bargaining. They currently avoid our table because it is not a pleasant places to sit. People cry out in the streets all day about World Peace Now! They are asking for too much, and usually if someone comes to discuss the issue these person become hostile to anything less than getting everything at one time.
Following this reasoning, if I tell everyone I want to date Britney Spears, then the bargaining logic follows that I should then be able to date Carmen Elektra. Asking for the stars does not mean you will get the moon. Asking for the stars, when you have nothing to offer in bargain, most likely will get you nothing. Further, when you are impolite about asking for it, you have even less of a chance of getting it.
I am sure that SOE makes plenty of money without the business that we commandos provide it. In addition, if I was a company and was offering services to a particularly troublesome and annoying market sector, I might decided to stop offering services to them. I notice that the crafters, who are on the whole very polite and positive, get patches and changes to their professions almost every patch. A market sector that is easy to deal with and does not spit out venom at its service provider, generally ends up getting the changes it wants.
Come on, you have to realize that this game is completely under the control of SOE and the devs, if you cause them to dislike you, do you expect them to turn around and address your complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner?
Again, the basic point is let us try to bring the devs to our side here, and try to be a bit less negative about it.

Well considering that with master commando you can get acid single 2. You now can use acid single 2. This produces about 4000 dmg per shot. So it takes a couple shots, while kneeling and its down. How your TKA is able to accomplish this, I am unsure. I realize you have knockdown, stun, and blinding effects, but your damage capacities are not high to my knowledge. For sake of argument, lets say there exist a rancor with 25000 HAM, my acid rifle speed is 4. Your TKA speed is 1. I am unaware as to the top damage you can achieve as a TKA. However, lets suggest 1000. This would indicated that it would take the exact same time for a commando to kill a rancor as a TKA. In 4 secs TKA does 4000 and Commando does 4000. However, I will suggest that TKA does less than 1000 per hit. As such it would take TKA longer than commando. This same principle applies to all professions with the exception of Bounty Hunter, who has a hvy dmg wpn, but the rancor is resistant to it.
If it took your TKA less than 30 secs to kill a rancor, I am very much impressed, and would like to know where you got your force enhanced vibro knucklers to enable you to inflict so much damage.
Not accurate at all there buddy. TKA can do 3k, but their speed in your post is accurate enough, 1 second. Thats 3k every 1 second, doubled if the TKA decides to dizzy/knockdown the rancor. The HAR sucks too, all our stats for it are broken. The Acid Launcher is a better weapon to use on rancors and even the flamethrower works better just by stacking burns. You really should do more research about TKAs before you jump to conclusions (no I'm not lieing, yes they do up to 3k damage a hit, in pve).
I think loathe is taking the context a bit out of hand. AsI recall, it was allegedly more along the lines of being boggled as where we should fit in with the current combat scheme, and that at the time, merging the FT and HAR trees would not be possible.
Just trying to conduct rumor control, I don't want the devs actually hating us due to spreading of harmful rumors. Give 'em till publish 7 before judging. And if we're still busted as bad after, that... let the flames begin!
