Commando/Doctor for example.

I truly hope commandos can compete with just marksman specials. However, garvin is right....we need to actually get our hands on the full commando skillset and weapons before we can say.

Here is the thing you should think about...a half combat template SHOULD get it's butt kicked by a full combat template...So if someone who is Master Commando / Master Non-Combat faces someone who is Master Commando / Master Some other Combat profession, who do you think should win? Commando/Doctor will have ranged specials and melee specials via our pre-reqs that will work with our weapons BUT they won't be as strong (and shouldn't be) as a Commando All Combat profession...so when you say "viable", you have to compare apples to apples...that's how things will work in the Post CU environement...no more will we see someone able to take one profession and compete with double combat masters on the same playing field...

Like I've said for the last 6 months...Template building is much more strategic now...for everything you want in your template, you have to ask "what am I giving up?"

I think what is meant is that how viable will a master commando be against another template that spends the same amount in another combat proffession that get's it's own specials....

I see your point, and I'd almost agree with it if it wasn't for the fact that the system of skillpoints in general allows stacking of professions of any kind. Non-combat, combat, crafting...etc.

I don't mind that a player who has mastered two professions is going to be stronger as fas as having more abilities and versatility at their disposal. But that shouldn't equate to being outright able to win. But that's besides the point.

I'm just hoping thata master commando won't HAVE to stack with a profession to be minimally effective. Kinda like how it is now with pistoleers HAVING to stack with other professions to be effective.

That's all, however, I have yet to see commando CU in action, so I'm waiting until then to make a real judgement.

Comparing commando pre cu to post cu will be like comparing a 89 year old WW2 vet with a wooden leg to a Special Forces Weapons Seargent.

The real key to the CU in my mind is that with commando post-CU, any combat skill will be a good combo. All professions are made through the CU to be linked together, but commando goes a step further in that it beefs up anything it's paired with to make a specialized combatant. It's just all about what you want to do with your commando. Do you want to lose offensive capabilities for defense(aka TKA) or add even more ranged power to your character (pistoleer, carbineer, rifleman, BH?) at the loss of any added defense?
